Coastside hippie political group fined for violations

HALF MOON BAY — A political action committee that supports candidates for Coastside public offices faces a fine of $3,500 for violating California elections law in 2005.

The San Mateo County League for Coastside Protection has already written a check to cover the fine and does not plan to contest the findings Thursday at a meeting of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

According to enforcement staff with the commission, the League for Coastside Protection erred on two counts in the run-up to a number of local elections in 2005. It published a mass mailing, a temporary political newsletter called Voice of the Coast, that did not identify the name and address of the organization on the outside of the mailing per state requirements.

The group also erred in misreporting the amount of money it had received from two local contributors, Jim Marsh and Mike Ferreira. Both men were endorsed in Voice of the Coast, Marsh in his bid for a seat on the Coastside County Water District and Ferreira for the Half Moon Bay City Council.

League for Coastside Protection was founded in 2001 and supports environmentally minded candidates who "uphold the spirit and substance of the California Coastal Act," according to its Web site. Although it no longer publishes the Voice of the Coast, it continues to endorse candidates as well as raise money and campaign for them, according to league Co-Chairman Scott Boyd, who attributed the election violations to "unintentional clerical errors."

Scott Boyd? I believe he used to run the Pacifica L-List (may still do). I also recall he liked to censor people who didn't carry the flag for his no growth, radical environmental agenda. I always thought it was odd that he wasn't even a Pacifica resident.

I believe Scott started Pacifica-L, and he was definitely anti-Measure L. I don't remember him censoring anyone.

While the list was fun if you could handle being insulted, it eventually degenerated into absolutely nothing but insults, and almost nobody posts there anymore.

Scott lived in Montara at the time, and I imagine he still does.

Mr. Sinai:

How would you know they were censored if you never saw their posts? I know several people who have stated to me that their posts (always screened by Boyd) were indeed rejected.

Bruce Hallman started Pacifica-L.

Anonymous, I used to post all the time on Pacifica-L, never personally had anything censored even though I was on the opposite side of Scott, and don't remember anyone complaining about being censored. Views from both sides were well represented, and given the garbage from both sides that got posted, it was obvious censorship wasn't happening.

Like this blog, if you posted a comment, it showed up immediately, without moderation.

Anonymous, either you or your friends are bs'ing about having their posts screened. I suspect it's you. If you were willing to put your name behind your statement, instead of hiding behind Anonymous, you might have some credibility.

Mr. Sinai:

You are a bull-headed moron. You have no clue what you are talking about. I really don't care whether you believe me or not. Who ITF are you? I'll let the other readers of this blog decide for themselves. No amount of evidence would satisfy you as your ego can't handle being contradicted.

Funny how you advertise and allow anonymous posting on this blog and yet attack people when they choose that option. I guess that only applies when you agree with the poster/commenter. Hypocrite!

I'm not the one throwing a tantrum and resorting to name calling simply because someone disagreed with me. This has got to be either Tod or Jeff.

You seem confused SS. First you say Boyd started the L-List, then we find out otherwise. Then you claim Boyd did not have a censorship policy. Perhaps you are again confusing individuals. Then you call me Tod or Jeff - whoever they are. Are you okay? Seriously. Perhaps you should consider removing your head from your arse and allow your brain more oxygen.

I said I "believed" Scott started Pacifica-L. It could have been Bruce Hallman. Nobody but your hairdresser knows for sure. In any case, has your issue of concern morphed from whether there was censorship on Pacifica-L to whether Scott or Bruce started it?

Why so scared to put your name behind your statements?

Also, it's very hard for me to believe that Anonymous knows about Pacifica-L and someone as obscure as Scott Boyd, yet doesn't know who Tod and Jeff are.

Steve don't waste your time on Anonymous.

It's just one of Vreeland's butt buddies pleasuring themselves.

Thank you for fixpacifica.
