City Council adopts Economic Development Committee Work Plan

Full report, pages 4-8, http://www.cityofpacifica.org/civica/filebank/blobdload.asp?BlobID=3667

City Economic Development Committee Work Plan moves forward, and welcomes new sub-committee members?
Objective #1 -
Review and develop plans to improve customer service in departments interfacing with current and potential Pacifica businesses: a) Streamline permit process process for the opening of a new business or events.
Objective #2 -  Facilitate owners/operators in existing business districts to organize, develop and implement plans for improvement and business development:  a) Enhance Pacifica's Existing Shopping Centers and Hotels, b) Pre-entitle strategic land site for future economic drivers.
Objective #3 - Devise and implement a plan for outreach and marketing of Pacifica to encourage business growth: a) strengthen connections with agencies, b) market Pacifica to visitors and new businesses, c) events co-promotion, d) create a city map for visitors.
Next:  1) Some quick pro-business wins, 2) city branding, then 3) get started with economic development work plan.

Pacifica Chamber of Commerce is supporting and will partner with this Economic Development Committee Work Plan as it now moves forward.  Its as if new pro-business life breathed into our Chamber of Commerce this year, and since this is Mayor Pro Tem Mary Ann Nihart's committee councilmember Julie Lancelle has offered to step aside as city council liaison to the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce Board of 15 will need to make that determination.

Objective #4: For once do something "for" Pacifica businesses, instead of always doing things "to" Pacifica businesses.

"Julie Lancelle has offered to step aside as city council liaison to the Chamber of Commerce"

This was very gracious for Julie to do. Kudoes to her. And major kudoes to Mary Ann for bringing this committee together with the caveat they all be BUSINESS PEOPLE. The last "economic development" committee was chaired by a no-growth attorney . . .

Cute and funny. We're not living in backward, rural white 3rd world Ireland, we live in the San Francisco metropolitan Bay area-- or do we?

What evidence do any of you have, other than perhaps some empty rhetoric and the formation of yet another committee, that Nihart will do anything any differently than her cohorts on Council? What's her position on Sharp Park Golf Course? Where's that dog park she claims she supports? What's her current position on the Palmetto streetscape? The Quarry? The Wastewater Treatment Plant? The old abandoned sewer plant on Beach Blvd? The biodiesel refinery debacle?

She has been on Council for over one year now and I see nothing except a lot of you extolling her virtues. But what has she really delivered? All I have seen are a plethora of excused absenses and recusals from her with respect to agenda items at Council meetings. How soon you forget that her candidacy was fully supported by Vreeland and PSD. Do you really think she is going to turn on the very people who elected her? Apparently your love and hope for Pacifica has blinded you to the disturbing similarities between her and her mentor James "On the Fence" Vreeland Jr.

Well Ianonymous Butler, at least Mary Ann populated an economic development committee with BUSINESS PEOPLE, as opposed to vocal no-growth advocates who subside on the government dole.
