Van Jones, 'Green Jobs Czar', a self-described 'communist' arrested during Rodney King riots

July 17, 9:58 AMConservative Politics ExaminerKathy Shaidle

Van Jones is President Barack Obama's newly appointed "Green Jobs Czar."
Jones' official title is Special Advisor on Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation for the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

The 41-year-old Yale Law School graduate and civil rights lawyer is also the founder of California's Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, "a non-profit agency for justice, opportunities and peace."

Sounds idyllic, but Jones' past isn't so pastoral.

The Ella Baker Center was connected to STORM (Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement), a "multi-racial activist collective with Marxist influences" with which Jones was involved.

In 1992, Van Jones founded another STORM project, Bay Area PoliceWatch, a "hotline and lawyer-referral service for victims and survivors of police abuse." This is fitting, perhaps, since Jones was himself arrested and detained briefly during a protest after the Rodney King verdict that same year.

Jones told the East Bay Express in 2005:
I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th [1992], and then the verdicts came down on April 29th. By August, I was a communist. (...)
I met all these young radical people of color – I mean really radical: communists and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.' I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary.
Like a character out of The Big Chill, Van Jones seems to have evolved from radical activist to Establishment insider. Perhaps only a left-wing administration incapable of recognizing irony would put a self-described communist in charge of creating jobs.

Luckily for Van Jones, and Obama's many other "Czars" with dubious credentials and troubling backgrounds, his new job was not dependent upon making it through Congressional hearings.

Van Jones credential are completely in order to have been an environmental adviser at the highest level of Government. In fact For those who don't prefer biased far right wing article postings infected with The New McCarthyism may prefer to read the conventional researched article I put together.
If interested particularly check-out the Green Summit video. In fact he had some role in the Bush administration as well.

"Van helped to pass America's first "green job training" legislation, the Green Jobs Act, which George W. Bush signed into law as a part of the 2007 Energy Bill."
Hey if Van Jones was good enough to do work for the George W. Bush administration, he should be good enough for Kathleen and her friends.

But what happened to Van Jones was part of a right-wing smear movement of New McCarthyism infecting our Nation now (which also grew out of the Bush administration). Wake up Kathleen!

Sorry for the flack you are getting Kathleen. I posted this article - I have followed Kathy's advice to google and I have seen this man speak. Can anyone say "racist"? Oh, not if they are a dem...dems can't be racist aka Harry Reid.

People can be pretty nasty when they don't agree with you. I guess diverse opinions are allowed here but they are not accepted because they do not follow the "party line".

All you Rogans look alike anyway. And if you still don't think Van My Man isn't the greatest thing since sliced white bread, check out his own web site, - he'll give it to you straight about himself. Don't trust those right nut wing propaganda rags. Trust mediamatters not John Savage (even though he was great in "The Deer Hunter" and "The Onion Field"). Even Fox had the good sense to remove him as host of The O'Reilly Factor. You cowards just don't get it, do you? He's a pro. He's gonna give us all jobs - green jobs! Go back to you hateful McCarthyism web sites. You're not welcome here.
