Signs of Old Lake Mathilda in the Murphy's backyard.

Wonder if a geological study was completed prior to purchase of this one-acre lot.

Could be a disclosure problem? The geology there is no secret. I recall the late Paul Azevedo, an expert on Pacifica history, talking about Lake Mathilda extending under much of the most western part of lower Linda Mar and how landfill was used to make it suitable for streets, building, etc. Didn't the phone company sell the community center to the city real cheap because they failed to use marine cables and had water damage to buried cables and equipment? Ocean on one side and an old lake right underneath.

Actually San Pedro Creek made a turn right where Linda Mar Shopping Center is now, and flowed out to the sea right across from Crespi Drive.

The guys paid $750,000. I would be more worried about toxics due to the fact this was an auto repair shop for years.

2:04 the water seeped into the Phone company building and would flood the phone system infrasture in the basement of this building.

Lake Mathilda was under there and has been under there longer than any development in Linda Mar. As far as the phone company bailing out of their bldg, it was water from above and water from below. Lotsa water. Bought my house from a guy who worked in that bldg from the day the door opened til it became the community center. He then bought the house across the street. Apparently that location was the company joke.

The website "historicaerials.com" shows the site in 1946 and other views. There is no lake or anything looking like a wetlands in these pictures.

"Most of the former Lake Mathilda and its associated wetland has been destroyed." from "San Pedro Creek Geomorphic Analysis", Laurel Collins, Paul Amoto, Donna Morton, 2001, Abstract.SF State University, pdf, lower first page. And there's more through a Google search. Still, it seems a geological study prior to purchase would have been prudent.

LMAO 1946 would be just a tad late to see Lake Mathilda from the surface. Not unusual for boggy areas to be all that remains of an ancient lake. Kathy's right, a little geology would have helped, or, maybe the buyer knew and didn't expect a problem? Guys, this is Pacifica.

Sounds like the real estate agent didn't do their job. Bring on the lawyers.

Actually the farmers who farmed lower Linda Mar changed and built the previous creek channel so they could farm the area that is now Anza to about Peralta.

I think it was more a marsh than a lake in wet years and probably came pretty close to drying up in the summer.

Actually it pretty much probably looked like the area between highway one and the skate park does now.
