Dinner at the Cliff House this week, I don't think so

Road open, Cliff House closed
San Jose Mercury News/Travel/Bay City News, 10/4/13.  "Cliff House joins other Bay Are4a attractions closed due to government shutdown."

Beautiful vista, just add diners and cuisine
"SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's famous Cliff House restaurant today joined other popular attractions that closed as a result of the federal government shutdown.

An employee answering the phone at the restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean on the western end of the city said the business closed its doors after Wednesday night because of the shutdown.

Because Congress failed to pass a budget by the end of the day on Monday, all federal services deemed "non-essential" have been shut down until an agreement is reached. National Park Service spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet said the Cliff House had to close because it is a concessionaire with the park service."    Read article.

What about Louis', the little coffee shop with the killer view operated by Pacifica's Hontalas family? They've been there 75 years and are also a concessionaire of the feds. This ain't right!

Louis is still open. They are leasing. The Cliffhouse are concessionaires.

The Cliff House lost any appeal to me after the remodel that tore out the Redwood Room and the restaurant at the top of the building. Now it's just another over-priced tourist destination. While the GGNRA folks hail it as a recreation of the 1910 Cliff House, it is an empty shell. The Beach Chalet is a more charming and enjoyable venue these days.

Too noisy.
