Are people with handicap plates or placards to be charged?

Anonymous said...

Why wouldn't they be charged? Handicapped parking isn't free, it's just the most accessible spaces.

Anonymous said...

Not true. With a plate or placard a handicap person can park for several hours at any metered parking. However yellow, white and red zones are off limits.

Are people with handicap plates or placards to be charged?

Anonymous said...

Anyone have info as to where can the annual pass can be purchased ?

Anonymous said...

Are you nuts? No real Pacifican is going to pay for parking. The lot at Pedro Pt. will be fine.

Anonymous said...

I hope people with handicap placards are charged. Why should they get to park in the best spots for free?

Anonymous said...

The entire handicap placard program is a bit of a joke as it is severely abused. Expect that if they are allowed free parking at the lots, we will see a multitude of soccer moms with oversize SUV's complete with surf racks grabbing those spots.

Anonymous said...

anon@10:06pm: "the lot at Pedro Pt. will be fine." Ordinarily I would agree as that is where I often park. But when paid parking goes into effect, I think we will find the now free lot at Pedro Pt. will become overused with spillover into the Pedro Pt. Center spaces. Eventually, I think we'll find that even the free lot will be off limits to everyone. As I recall, that free lot is privately owned and while the owner probably has to continue the existing beach access, likely does not have to provide free parking. Time will tell how things shake out. I hope those pay stations don't take cash as they will likely be broken into time and time again. Most surfers are cool; then there are those that are not so cool.

Anonymous said...

Do people with silver Hondas get charged?

What about guys with grey hair?

Anonymous said...

Handicap should be charged full price. They already get front row parking. Enough.

If anyone should get free parking it should be our Military men and women.

Anonymous said...

9:27 you are correct!

Anonymous said...

Isn't there a discounted rate for handicapped parking at other state beaches? Seems like some city beaches also offer it. Maybe it's already planned?

Anonymous said...

handicap people aren't charged for (timed) parking on the theory that it takes them longer to get around. I don't know if this lot charges by the hour or day.

Haha I love getting my free front row parking at concerts ad ball games. Don't be a hater.

Kathy Meeh said...

Anonymous in your campaign to make life impossible for frail and handicapped people, are you without life experience, stupid or just cruel?

About your 9:27 AM comment, THINK, what does serving in the military have to do with ability to walk?

And your equally idiotic 4/25/13, 10:13 PM comment: "Why should they get to park in the best spots for free?" Most handicap people who exist in pain with limited mobility are also unable to work, and have greater expenses. That's why State and Federal ADA laws exist.

There may be some abuse of disabled parking, but that does not excuse your inability to feel compassion for others. And there is no handicap "free parking spot" for that.

Anonymous said...

Some people are just mean.

Chris Porter said...

Why is everyone looking for ways to beat the parking charge? Just get a pass and help your City out, the same people who clean your beach so you can use it.

todd bray said...

Whoa, a new low even for this blog, hating on the handicapped. Chris please explain how a question about handicapper parking is an attempt to "beat parking charges."? Even you you that is an extremely low blow.

We'll be buying a yearly sticker at some point. Way back before the beaches were rededicated there was an idea for a yearly pass, voluntary, but a fee to the city non the less.

But wowzerz Rant/Drama/Redherring and Brownshirtanons, as a group you really do need to grow the hell up.

Anonymous said...

Kathy Meeh, you have accused me of having a "campaign to make life impossible for frail and handicapped people" and being stupid or cruel. These are all personal attacks, but I assume that if I returned the attacks by saying that you have a campaign to falsely characterize people with whom you disagree and that you are stupid or cruel, my comment would probably be dumped by the blogmaster. On the off chance that it won't be, I would characterize you as incredibly nasty and determined to distort anybody's comment that you don't like.

I was talking about handicapped parking being free. I don't want to make it harder for a handicapped person to park at the beach, I just want it to be fair. I'm a senior on a fixed income. Why should my parking fee subsidize someone else's free parking who may be much better off than I am?

Anonymous said...

Why? Because we lack that old team spirit!

Anonymous said...

Kathy always takes the bait from the trolls.

Tom Clifford said...

Although I have a Handicap Placard [really bad knees] and I am also a Vietnam Veteran I have no problem with paying for my parking.

Cathy is right in saying that some peoples Handicaps keep them from working and are medically very costly.A day at the beach for someone who has so little should not be denied them.

I agree with what Chris said.

The yearly pass is a great deal for those of us who use the beach on a regular bases and want to keep it clean and well managed.

Please Support Linda Mar Beach and make every Visitor to Pacifica feel welcome.

Kathy Meeh said...

Anon 12:15 PM, I'll take your comment as a compliment in Troll abatement.

Anon whoever, 12:03 PM, you chose the name and the words. FMV the distortion was your viewpoint.

Anonymous said...

Good grief!

Anonymous said...

"grow the hell up"

Coming from a paranoic who compares everyone to Nazis, that' rich.

Anonymous said...

I know several people who have handicapped cards. All of them work and are doing OK financially. Almost all of them have problems with knees, feet, or legs which is why they have handicapped cards. They are not in pain or suffering. They do not have costly medical bills. They simply have difficulty walking. The assumptions you're making about most people with handicapped cards are simply wrong. And I'm not even talking about the people who got their cards illegally. If some people are going to get free parking, it should be based on need, not whether they have a handicapped card.

Anonymous said...

Only on Faux Pacifica could a dumb article about a parking lot generate so much backbiting Sturm und Drang.

Lead onward, brave mouthbreathers! The end of our little town is neigh upon us and we reveal ourselves to be accelerationists, one and all.

Let us all hold our hands, close our eyes, and jump. It will sting for but a moment. And then sweet nothingness.

Kathy Meeh said...

Anon 3:37 PM, actually the article is from Pacifica Index, nothing dumb about it. Try opening the link, its easy.

About "jumping", you first. The rest of us will think about it.

Anonymous said...

Again with the Nazi accusations Bray? You just make yourself look irrelevant and even more out there than most people think.

Tom Clifford said...

Anonymous 3:21 Having problems with your Knees, feet or legs to the point that a doctor will O.K. you for a Handicap placard almost certainly means you are suffering a certain amount of pain.

The illegal use of a disabled parking placard could result in a fine of $4,200.00.

The handicap placard process is the State of California way of determining need and is based on a Doctors statement.

Chris Porter said...

Sorry Todd...Maybe I misposted but all I keep reading is how people will park in Pedro Point lot, Linda Mar lot or in front of your house so they don't have to pay for parking. My husband and I are only on the beach when we have to pick up the trash containers but I will happily pay for a pass to help the City out.

todd bray said...

Understood Chris.

Jim Wagner said...

Todd, you owe Chris Porter an apology.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like it's over. Playground law prevails.

toddbray said...

No Jim, I don't.

Anonymous said...

Again, the main reason handicap people aren't charged for some parking is not because the state feels they can't afford it. It is because being handicap can cause delays in getting around so it's not fair to charge by the hour when a HC person may take that long to get to where they are going.

Anonymous said...

ding ding ding

lets get ready to rummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmble

Anonymous said...

Todd, will apologize to Chris, right after he answers questions directed to him.

Anonymous said...

Try using the "it's not fair to charge by the hour for handicapped parking because it takes me longer" argument in SF parking garages.

Anonymous said...

I no longer see much difference between Todd and Tod. They both start with a kernel of truth and use it as a pretense to start a fight. The only distinction is that Tod at least has a few misguided supporters, whereas Todd has managed to alienate everybody.

Anonymous said...

Tod, has always brought back up to his arguments. Todd Bray, just tries to stir up the sheit.

Kathy Meeh said...

Anonymous 10:22 AM, I'm replaying your personal attacks on Todd and Tod as follows:

The only difference between Anonymous and Anonymous is "truth", or better: topic truth. Not "truth" includes the pretense of "truth" (a smear), or even the desire to "start a fight.".

The distraction and "distinction" you bring Anonymous 10:22 AM, is a "misguided", mangled personal attack. The not "truth" personal attack is the "pretense" of insight, whereas "you have managed to alienate" almost "everybody".

What was the subject here? Oh paid Linda Mar "beach parking" (a fee to users). Tod was an (or the) initial and ongoing consistent citizen advocate. Todd will support the advanced program.

Anonymous said...

"Kathy",

The "use" of quotation "marks" is meant to "be" used to "denote" a quote, "hence" the "name".

Anonymous said...

Big opportunity for some towing service to make money here. And that's where the big money is. Many of the supporters of this brain fart never knew that the money has to stay on the beach so really the most we can ever "make" is the offset of the $160,000 we now pay for maintaining all the beaches in Pacifica. And that's after we pay for the rangers and all the rest of the costs. Is it worth it? Depends on how you feel about plovers and off-leash dogs on the beach.

Kathy Meeh said...

Well Anonymous 12:55 PM, I was replaying and quoting Anonymous 10:22 AM. Had you read that Anonymous 10:22 AM, 3 sentence comment, you might have recognized the reason for restating those mostly word quotes.

Or was that you Anonymous 10:22 AM, and was that your follow-up comment? If so, FMV you may be lost in spin again.

Anonymous said...

It makes my head hurt. I need to stop reading this stuff.

Anonymous said...

Schlesinger may be a nut, but hot darn if he isn't right most of the time. Bray is just a gadfly.

Anonymous said...

That's is what happens when you watch a city council meeting.

you get dizzy, and feel faint then your ears start to bleed.

Anonymous said...

I usually just throw up. Turn the channel and I'm fine.

Anonymous said...

322 Maybe you can block PCT26 on your TV? You know, like porn. You'll miss the other shows but you gotta protect yourself.

Anonymous said...

@314 even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then

Anonymous said...

3:36 why the city council meetings are the best comedy on TV.

Just as funny as watching all the clowns come out of the clown car at the circus.

todd bray said...

There is still an outstanding issue of handicap parking at the three metered lots. Since the article above is a FAQ digest of paid parking concerns perhaps Mr. Fogel has an answer?

todd bray said...

HAHAHA, Anon @ 4:23, no doubt. I flipped it on by mistake one evening and my niece and nephew thought it was an episode of MAD TV. ORALS truly is inspired TV.

Anonymous said...

We know you never have an answer!

Tom Clifford said...

Todd I don't Know if Chris has the answer or not but Steve Rhodes promised to get me the info on the number of Handicap parking spaces at each of the lots and if they are free or not. I hope to have that information on Monday.

Anonymous said...

Didn't find anything about the handicapped spots, but the article does mention that cash and credit cards can be used in the ticket machines. That's unavoidable I'm sure, but those machines will be vandalized early and often. The projected financial benefit isn't much and it's already slipping away.
The article also makes clear that parking on adjacent streets by beach goers is not prohibited or illegal as long as the vehicle is legally parked. First come, first served. Residents will learn to dread a sunny day. I am so happy not to live closer to the beach.

Anonymous said...

Yeah 423, but generally you just pay at the gate to see the clowns in the circus. This Clowncil expects us to keep paying even after we've seen their show.

todd bray said...

You are a Rock Star Tom. I have an email into Kathy as well. Just curious.

Chris Fogel said...

My apologies for not addressing the handicapped parking issues in the FAQ. It's a natural question that I shouldn't have missed.

Also, sorry for the delay in responding; I've been taking it easy for the last few weeks and have been focusing on other things.

I'll update the FAQ on Monday.

todd bray said...

Thanks, Chris.

Anonymous said...

Chris

You do an excellent job on Pacifica Index. I really don't know when you find the time.

No apology needed.

Anonymous said...

I think I heard them the rules and regulations haven't been discussed yet. As in open and closing times.

Anonymous said...

It is one of the tactics Communism teaches, when you can't win an argument , call that person names.

Handicapped already get front row parking. They should not get free anything, regarding parking. ENOUGH! I have handicapped in my family and I assure you they are used and abused by the democrats. Dont fall for their games.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...
It is one of the tactics Communism teaches, when you can't win an argument , call that person names.

Republicans do this also, if you don't believe it flip on Fox news anyone they don't agree with they start in with the name calling.

Anonymous said...

Name calling is big with 5 year olds, too.

Anonymous said...

Calling everybody you disagree with Communists is also name-calling.

Anonymous said...

@ Anon 1142, who's the one calling people nazis here? I don't think they are republican.

todd bray said...

Satirizing the term Anonymous by adding Rantanon, dramanon, Redherringanon and Brownshirtanon is not name calling nor calling anyone a Nazi. The term Brownshirtanon is reference to a FIXPACIFICA tactic of dehumanizing a segment of our population and using them as a default scapegoat for every little petty thing they can think of. Nothing more nothing less. If the above collection of Anon's want to post as themeslves when ranting, creating drama, throughing out redherrings or brownshirting a segment of folks they don't like more power to them.

Steve Sinai said...

I'm pretty sure brownshirt refers to nazis.

Anonymous said...

Brown Shirt or brown·shirt (brounshûrt)
n.
1. A Nazi, especially a storm trooper.
2. A racist, especially a violent, right-wing one.

Anonymous said...

todd bray said...

Steve, not the way I use it. The way I use it, as in Brownshirtanon, refers to those on your site who banter around names and slogans to defame those people they dislike. Since you share the same views I don't see that practice on FIXPACIFICA changing. If your colleagues want to post Anonymously fine, but to complain when an variation of Anonymous is used to categorize anonymous posters is used as parody you should be able to recognize that, not demonize it. Hum...

Anonymous said...

Drama.

damage control, spin cycle, bs, drama.

we have it all

"FIXPACIFICA tactic of dehumanizing a segment of our population and using them as a default scapegoat for every little petty thing they can think of." Todd Bray, 10:23 AM

Really Todd? How about you and your eco-NIMBY "scapegoatese" unring that "our ecology is our economy" bell you've struck our city with for 3 decades? The result is clear: inadequate city, social chaos.

Want to give back some recovery? 1) fix the highway (widening), 2) develop the quarry for economic benefit, and that includes mixed-use if the plan is reasonable, 3) stop causing in fill and other development delays.

The frogs already have 50-60% of permanent open space land transferred out of this city. That's enough. We know it, you know it, and if your regional eco-NIMBY (Sierra Club, etc.) friends don't know it tell them.

And Todd, if you don't like the reality check on Fix Pacifica, you may always run the BS (more to their liking) on Pacifica Riptide.

Steve Sinai said...

"Steve, not the way I use it. The way I use it, as in Brownshirtanon, refers to those on your site who banter around names and slogans to defame those people they dislike"

You don't get to make up your own definitions, Todd.

Anonymous said...

oh snap

Anonymous said...

social chaos? are we talking about the dog park?

Hutch said...

Todd brownshirts describes a brutal nazi enforcer. Doesn't matter how many letters you tack onto the end of it, it still makes you look bad to hurl that term around at people you disagree with.

Anonymous said...

Yowza! Look at Kathy keeping it real and laying the smack-down on Comrade Toddvich!!!

todd bray said...

Yes, Steve, I do. I can't however keep you from thinking the way you want to about it.

Tom Clifford said...

I'll try again: This just in ... There will be thirteen handicap parking spaces divided between the three paid parking lots. These spaces are reserved for person with handicap plates or placards. These spaces are subject to the same fee as everyone else.

Didn't a famous politician use the definition defense when he said "what is the meaning of is?" (poorly paraphrased). Todd, you go right ahead making up your own deifinitions. You're entitled to. After all, you're so much smarter than the rest of us.

The Sturmabteilung (SA) (German pronunciation: [ˈʃtʊɐ̯mʔapˌtaɪlʊŋ] ( listen); Storm Detachment or Assault Division, or Brownshirts) functioned as the original paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party. It played a key role in Adolf Hitler's rise to power in the 1920s and 1930s. Their main assignments were providing protection for Nazi rallies and assemblies; the disruption of opposing political parties and the fight against their paramilitary units (esp. the Rotfrontkämpferbund); and the intimidation of Jewish citizens (e.g. the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses).

The SA was the first Nazi paramilitary group to develop pseudo-military titles for bestowal upon its members. The SA ranks were adopted by several other Nazi Party groups, chief amongst them the SS, itself originally a branch of the SA. SA men were often called "brownshirts" for the colour of their uniforms (similar to Benito Mussolini's blackshirts). Brown-coloured shirts were chosen as the SA uniform because a large batch of them were cheaply available after World War I, having originally been ordered during the war for colonial troops posted to Germany's former African colonies.[1]

The SA became disempowered after Adolf Hitler ordered the "Blood purge" of 1934. This event became known as the Night of the Long Knives. The SA was effectively superseded by the SS, although it was not formally dissolved and banned until after the Third Reich's final capitulation to the Allied powers in 1945.

Intelligence is not the issue, but the delayed common good for this city and the people who live here is.

Here is the variation on what "is" may mean. What that has to do with the mischaracterization and implications of Nazi related Brownshirts is unknown.

Anonymous said...

You are all mistaken.

What he meant was brown shirt was the UPS man. You know the guy in the brown truck.
