Government transparency
for our City, let's update!
"GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY.  I think our city would benefit from a program such as this. This would alleviate a lot of mistrust that surrounds our budget process."   Jim Wagner, Chair, Pacifica BACPAC

San Jose Mercury News, Heather Somerville, 7/3/15.  "Silicon Valley 'civic-tech' companies driving transparency in local government."

"Cities from San Francisco to Palo Alto and Dublin -- even down to the financially troubled city of Bell in Southern California -- are using Silicon Valley start-up technology to open a window into government spending at an unprecedented level of detail.

From how much a community spends on police equipment to the amount of a check written to a contractor building the new fire station, more details of a city's budget are moving from paper or clunky software to sophisticated Web applications -- marking an information revolution that could lead to better government."   Read article.

Reference, PACPAC organization.  "BACPAC is the acronym for "Business and Community Political Action Committee". We are citizen supported and offer a moderate voice to encourage sustainable progress in Pacifica. ...   We welcome a community discussion on many topics with the goal of coming to an understanding that we need to become a viable and economically self-sustaining community.  (Jim Wagner comment from this article, 7/5/15, 2:47 p.m.)

You still haven't explained what a wagpac was?

Is that west coast rap or hip hop?

Walk over to the mirror, 1:02, look at the reflection. Then open a dictionary to "ignorant" and you'll see a picture of that reflection.

I personally think this is a perfect tool for our town. We have enough money for consultants, why not spend some on tech and open the books a little more.

Larry 835, needs confirmation but 102 may have a point in identifying the acronym "BACPAC". I think BAC stands for Business and Community, and a PAC is a political action committee. Correct, or variation?

Any mission statement, comments, links, etc. are welcome-- even an article. BACPAC has been around for a whole lot of years, is a needed organization in this City, and is welcome on this website.

We need complete transparency in Pacifica.
We are chronically on the brink of bankruptcy.
We need to find out why.
No beach town rubbing shoulders with San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Wine Country and one of the largest economies in the world should be in such a predicament.
Something's wrong here.

BACPAC is the acronym for "Business and Community Political Action Committee". We are citizen supported and offer a moderate voice to encourage sustainable progress in Pacifica. A website is currently under construction. The board is made up of volunteers focused on working with others to help Pacifica move forward and thrive. We welcome a community discussion on many topics with the goal of coming to an understanding that we need to become a viable and economically self-sustaining community.

Speaking of transparency - has "BACPAC" registered with the Sec. of State? (not on the website). Do BACPACers identify themselves as lobbyists when speaking to City Council - so far no. Are City Council members meeting with them individually or as a group? Is the Pacifica CofC using money from the City for political activity?

C'mon Therese Dyer - where's your outrage???

407, interesting "concern" from an individual who won't sign his name to his duh comment.

BACPAC is an old political action committee (PAC) organization in this City. It's a PAC, they file compliant paperwork with both the City and the State. Glad this organization is doing such good work to represent the interests of ordinary people and business concerns in this City. Kudos to them!

The balance of your comments are verbiage nonsense, meaningless-- and, compare to your NIMBY organization disclosures.

hahahhahaha
Is that Mr Bray or another one of the negatives in this city. Let's focus. Does anyone deny that a better way to present the budget of this city to the public at large might be a good idea? No one can wade through a city budget in it's current format. Out city manager has done yeoman's work trying to present it in a readable format but it's not all of it in it's governmental minutiae that even on one in government understands.
