NIMBY, the new N-word

I'm remembering why I stopped posting things on Riptide.

Riptide publisher John Maybury, who moved out of Pacifica several years ago, has a tendency not to post comments that he doesn't agree with, or he edits them to change their meaning. In fact, that's why Fix Pacifica got started.

Anyway, I sent Riptide a comment about the Nihart for City Council situation, and he edited part of it out.  Here's what I sent to Riptide  -

"It looks like all the Martin minions know that the only way she can get on council is if Mary Ann drops out of the race. It really should be up to the people of Pacifica, not the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee and a bunch of chirping NIMBYs."

Here's what Maybury posted -

"It looks like all the Martin minions know that the only way she can get on council is if Mary Ann is disqualified. It really should be up to the people of Pacifica, not the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee and a [name calling deleted as violation of Riptide terms of service]."

NIMBYs get very upset when you call them "NIMBYs".

I would argue that "a bunch of chirping nimbys" does constitute name calling.

However, it is the first sentence that I personally find over the line: "It looks like all the Martin minions know that the only way she can get on council is if Mary Ann drops out of the race."

As a Martin supporter, I can tell you that we have been throwing house parties and fundraisers for months, have knocked on almost every Pacifica voter's door, and have a likeable, intelligent, and qualified candidate with a well funded campaign. Why on earth would any of us think the only way for her to win is for someone else to drop out?

Reminds me of 2 years ago when FixPacificans were predicting Keener to come in last.

The Trib gives this mouthpiece too much coverage devoted to "chirping" instead of real news or letters to the editor. If you still subscribe or buy off the street give the Trib a call and tell them. It's our paper not some multi-jurisdictional NIMBY down the coast!

7:08 We all get it, you are smitten by Deidre Martin. You buy all her young, cute, syrupy say nothing speeches and really believe she is a person of such high repute and experience that she's the right one to tackle the desperate issues Pacifica faces. This is exactly what her NOBY puppet masters are counting on. John Keener covered his lying journey into office with his Anti-Highway Widening position. He never mentioned Managed Retreat, closing the golf course, killing the Library, halting Palmetto Ave business area improvements, blocking development of the Old Waste Water Treatment Plant or secretly working with NIMBY's to take Pacifica back to the good old frog and snake days of tactical development blockades.
In fact he has said under his breath "we should not invest any more time or money into West Sharp Park".
These are the same positions supported by Deirdre Martin. Her candidate platform and flyers are nearly identical to Keener's. The only difference between Keener and Martin is that she is more convincing with her cute little youthful innocence act. She is a snake in sheep's clothing and represents the future hopes of her masters who only care about "I got mine - screw everyone else".

The day you stop banning people from Fix Pacifica because you don't agree with your warped sense of editorial privilage is the day you can stop bitching about getting edited in another blog. Paybacks a bitch.

9:02 AM, Only one person's ever been banned from the blog, and that's because he kept accusing people of criminal activity without any evidence. Similar to what Dan over at Pacifica.city does routinely these days.

Did Dan steal Pacifica city blog from someone else who started it?

Dan Stesnook claims everything else so why not claim a blog as his?!

Stegnich broke this story days ago.

@7:41 Maybe there is no story.

Maybury moved down the coast and now he uses the Tribune to promote restaurants in Montara at the expense of local Pacifica businesses.

Dan seems to be the new member of a long history of local unhinged gadflies on both sides of the development debate. It's depressing to see the Trumpification of our local politics with people tossing accusations, speculations, and rumors at anyone who disagrees with them.

Funny, 9:52, I would have described that as a Clintonification. But then, I don't subscribe to the same fiahwrap you do.
