Gun regulation, a rational view

Pacifica Tribune/John Blanchard, Columnist, 12/25/12. "A left coast view: on guns."

Gun control, "reload" if you qualify for a license
....  "Social and medical sciences must continue to study the mental health issues associated with gun violence but these studies alone will not eliminate all chance that these tragedies don't continue to repeat themselves -- not without  trampling on a lot more freedoms than that to simply bear arms. But we can regulate gun use. Here's how:

First, reintroduce the ban on assault weapons. They have no place on America's streets or in our homes. Second, restrict availability and proliferation. We will never win the argument against the "if teachers had guns none of this would have happened" crowd so the Second Amendment should be revised to read that "every citizen has the right to own a gun." As opposed to "bear arms." It should be one only. That gun will be registered, licensed and assigned to the individual possessing it. It will be that individual's responsibility as well as his or her constitutional right. The individual's information will be tied to that firearm's serial number in a database and there will be no legal way to transfer that firearm without going through the necessary steps. Background checks will be the norm. Other criteria can be proposed.

....  The technology employed in today's guns make them appropriate for any potential legal use for which they may be intended. We're not talking muskets and flintlocks anymore. One gun is enough. No one needs to have more. Our "gun culture" needs to become a thing of the past. Let it die with the old west."   Read article.

Hear this,

Amendment II - A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Remember it.
Diane Feinstein knows her rights and used the 2nd Amendment to protect herself, From a group terrorists.

Not sure what you mean by that, but... practical, loophole proof, regulation seems to be key to better gun control.

The following analysis is from Cornell Legal Information Institute, "Bearing arms, Second Amendment."

.... "In United States v. Miller, the Court sustained a statute requiring registration under the National Firearms Act of sawed–off-shotguns. .... Since this decision, Congress has placed greater limitations on the receipt, possession, and transportation of firearms, and proposals for national registration or prohibition of firearms altogether have been made. At what point regulation or prohibition of what classes of firearms would conflict with the Amendment, if at all, the Miller case does little more than cast a faint degree of illumination toward an answer."

Stay informed. Sen Feinstein wants to ban ALL GUN RIGHTS by using this false flag incident.

"After two weeks of media reports that a .223 AR-15 Bushmaster was found in the trunk of Lanza's car, gun aficionados point out that the rifle is not a Bushmaster, nor even an AR-class assault weapon.

Gun experts say that the weapon shown in an NBC News report is some kind of shotgun."

The gun found in the trunk was a shotgun. He didn't use it to kill all those children. He used the Bushmaster which was not in the trunk.

Guess you're getting your "stay informed" information by goofy right-wing rumor as usual. Here's what Diane Feinstein said:

NBC, 12/22/12: "Feinstein, a proponent of gun control, said the bill would seek to limit the sale, transfer and possession of assault weapons, along with the capacity of high-capacity magazines...the purpose of this bill that I will introduce in the Senate.. will be to get weapons of war off the street. It can be done," she said on Meet the Press (and the 6:19 minute video is included).

Article for you: Huff Post/Alan Colmes, 1/3/12. "Right-wing freaking out about Dianne Feinstein's gun control suggestions."

Feinstein, wants to ban everyone elses guns, except herself

Typical democrat

1226, when did Feinstein say that??? Good idea though.

Hope she succeeds in getting her bill passed asap. Thank you Senator!

Anon 11:09 - keep on screaming that Feinstein wants to ban all gun rights. That kind of extremist distortion will make the majority of people write you off as a mentally ill paranoid, exactly the kind of person who shouldn't have an assault rifle and a high-capacity clip.

Give it a rest. You're not going to convince anyone with an extreme viewpoint on either end of the spectrum to change their mind. They can't. For them it's not about rational thought. It's about emotion and paranoia. All we can hope for is that the political will now exists to stop the proliferation of these weapons and large-capacity magazines and to to close the enormous loopholes that make current laws ineffective.

Illinois State Democrats did not give it a rest. They voted down the ban of guns.

It amazaes me how you commies post on here and other places that Feinstein does not want to ban all guns, when she is on video advocating such a ban. You commies amaze me. I agree there are many sheeple in california, but not all. We are watching you.

I know you hate these posts but I feel it would be irresponsible of me to not send forward this information.

Judge for yourself. Feel free to call me names. At least I forward this info on. Comments after article are interesting.

My cousin is a officer, I am saddened to say he says this is true.

@251 I'd love to hear you deliver your rant in an Arnold Schwarzenegger accent. I think you're hysterically funny--you and the guy who breathlessly posts all the headlines with web addresses bzzzt bzzzt, late breaking news.

339 pleasepleaseplease, next time be irresponsible.

Anon 2:51 - give a link to the video where Feinstein advocates banning all guns. I don't believe it exists. If it does, I'll eat my words.

yeah, put up or shut up!

Better late than never to correct a false statement re the Illinois State Legislature "voting down" gun control measures. Not true, the legislature before taking their winter break chose not to vote on several controversial issues before them including gun control and gay marriage. They'll resume in the Spring with newly seated reps and a full attendance.

Correcting another false statement: there is no video in which Feinstein advocates banning all guns. The extremist who calls everybody who posts here "commies" is making stuff up again.

NBC, 12/22/12 article, "CA Senator Dianne Feinstein to introduce gun legislation." Meet the Press, 12/16/12, 6:19 minute embedded video. (Link also posted on my 1/3/13, 12:14 PM comment).

From the NBC article: "Feinstein, a proponent of gun control, said the bill would seek to limit the sale, transfer and possession of assault weapons, along with the capacity of high-capacity magazines."

Feinstein's proposed ban on assault weapons is an update of the 1994 gun legislation, which continued until 2004. Feinstein introduced that legislation. However, Congress did not renew the assault weapon ban in 2004. With the new legislation, Dianne Feinstein's continued stated intent is (in her own words): "Get weapons of war off the street."

Anonymous 12:46 PM, you are observably correct. Extreme Right-wing Anonymous is "making it up", and the reference links are equally hysterical and bizarre. Admittedly I found the 1/3/12, 3:39 PM hillbilly "war of the worlds" in North Carolina spoof kind of "creative". In that one Obama, his infiltrated militia, and the drones are all coming to get you. And that happens next month. But, once the month has past, off to the next "take back our country" myth. At least the low-information far right-wingers have exhausted the brither theme.
