Another Sharp Park Golf Course lawsuit threatened

Okay we know Wild Equity/Biological Diversity is in it for the money, but do you also still support the Sierra Club?  The Sierra Club is against needed quarry economic development, and the 1.3 mile highway 1 bottleneck widening in Pacifica.

Sharp Park Golf Course
San Mateo County Times/Bay City News Service, 12/11/12. "Pacifica:  Judge dismisses Sharp Park Golf Course environmental lawsuit."

"SAN FRANCISCO -- A federal judge in San Francisco has dismissed a lawsuit filed by six environmental groups concerned about protection of two imperiled species at the Sharp Park Golf Course in Pacifica.  U.S. District Judge Susan Illston, in a decision issued last week, said a biological opinion released by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in October made the lawsuit moot. In that opinion, the federal agency said golf course maintenance and operations at the site are "not likely to jeopardize the continued existence of the California red-legged frog or San Francisco garter snake."

I love this golf course
....   Groups filing the lawsuit included the Wild Equity Institute, the Sierra Club and the Center for Biological Diversity.  Wild Equity Institute attorney Brent Plater said the groups' next step could be the filing of a new lawsuit, but said that who the plaintiffs and defendants would be "depends on a variety of factors and remains unsettled."  Plater said the underlying question in the dispute is "Do we want to continue to subsidize a suburban golf course in San Mateo County and jeopardize the most beautiful and imperiled serpent in North America?"  Read article.

I think we all knew this was coming.

"Plater said the underlying question in the dispute is "Do we want to continue to subsidize a suburban golf course in San Mateo County and jeopardize the most beautiful and imperiled serpent in North America?"

So if another group takes over Sharp Park GC from SF would you be ok with that Brent? Doubt it!!

It seems now his main concern is SF continuing operation of Sharp Park. Once again Plater is changing his tune.

I think the underlying question in the dispute is, “Why should a marginalized, narrow-minded and self-serving group of environmental extremists continue to ignore the clearly expressed judicial, political and popular opinion that opposes them?” The answer, I fear, is that they believe the moment they are perceived to compromise, to seek reasonable solutions to complex problems, their idealistic followers will find another avatar to help them save the world. Can’t have that.

You may be right Paul. Groups like Save The Frogs care very much about the dollar sign.

BTW, was that me in your column today?
