Initial view of Pacifica city council candidates - Mike O'Neill

Candidate to fill the 2 year city council vacancy.
Mike O'Neill, candidate for city council

Pacifica Tribune/Jane Northrop, 8/7/12.  "Mike O'Neill kicks off campaign for city council."

....  "This is an older town that needs to adapt to a new reality, but we must not be a doormat and let everything come in," he said.

When asked about a shift in philosophy from development vs. taxes, he said, "There is no more revenue. Yes. We have to pay for services."

O'Neill's position on the highway widening is to create a flex lane in the middle.

O'Neill is running for the two-year term vacated by Jim Vreeland. There are two four-year seats up for grabs, as well. Mary Ann Nihart is up for re-election. Pete de Jarnatt is not running again."  Read Article

"We have to pay for services"

Is this eluding to increasing taxes?

"Flex Lane"

Sounds like a hippy idea. This isn't even on the table is it?

I hear little from Mike on our financial crisis. Does he realize we're facing possible bankruptcy?

I would like to hear more from Mike but the last thing we need now is another Council person who is going to placate the the anti-development ecco NIMBY's.

Hutch 808, And the least likely candidate to do that would be Mike O'Neill. Unlike the rest of the pack (other than Ervin) he has a very public record that would tell you much more about him than snippets in a newspaper. Years of experience solving the same financial problems this town faces. Real-world, large scale experience. Check his record on the school board. The guy is no hippy.

"We have to pay for services"? Duh.

Sure I'm willing to listen. But what I want to hear is a firm belief that our economy is his #1 concern and he'll do what it takes to grow business and attract development.

Also, a pledge to work with Mary Ann and Len would be great.

Much like what Victor Spano stated.

We need someone that will choose a side in this one. Are you with the ecco NIMBY'S or are you with pro growth?

There's no in between. Otherwise we end up with another Pete Dejarnett and face more years of getting nothing done.

So sure, please clarify your position Mike.

Campaign pledges? As useless an indicator as you will ever find. Get over the childish labels and think. Look at the man's record. Look at our problems. Does he have the skills to help? Hell yes.
