Sewer rates will be going up substantially over several years, unless the city can find a grant for that. The city never seems to pay off debt, it just keeps refinancing bonds. Parcel owners will pay, and renters can expect pass through cost increases.
No stink before the lawsuit !! |
Pacifica Tribune/Jane Northrop, 8/14/12. "City council finances first phase of wastewater system improvements."
.... The money will be used first to pay off the existing bond and next to work on the rehabilitation of the sewer collection system.
.... Phase I is $5.1 million. Phase II costs $30.2 million, Phase III costs $14.5 million. The work will be completed over 20 years." Read Article.

I know this is going to hurt , but it needs to be done. I don't look forward the cost. Better than a sink hole sucking up the whole damn place.
Take a look at how much "mortgage insurance" they have to pay to get their credit rating high enough to obtain this loan.
Why does a brand new sewer plant need rehabilitation. Spayne that to me please.
Anon 7:42, read the article. It's not the sewer plant that needs rehabilitation, it's the sewer collection system which is definitely not brand new. The aging pipes need to be replaced. 'Splained.
anon625 there's no guarantee that giant sinkhole won't take us down anyway. Isn't Beach Blvd susceptible? Forgive me, but am I wrong to hope the mother of all sinkholes starts right in front of council chambers during a council meeting? Better yet, a council closed session. Wouldn't want to take down any innocent civilians. hahaha...Council can take their secrets with them to the ultimate closed session.

Just for clarity, I have added "collection system" to the article title", as you have described in your comment. Try to keep titles short, sometimes more is needed.
The sewer collection system hasn't been brand new in more than 50 years. Guess that wasn't a concern when hundreds of thousands of dollars of sewer funds (our taxes)were spent year after year on pet projects instead of critical municipal infrastructure. Talk about the shit hitting the fan! Some folks know when to duck.
The sewer plant itself needs rehab. The parts of our "state of the art" poop plant have to be custom made when they break because the company that built it went bankrupt. Nice, huh! It's like owning a car. The starter goes out and you have to fabricate one from scratch. Then your exhaust pipe starts to look like Dick Cheneys' arteries, clogged and backing up to the engine. Poof, broken engine. Now it's "splained".
