"Landlords/property owners are responsible to this town"

 ....  "The Tribune recently wrote about the loss of the Round Table Pizza in Linda Mar Center. Patty's Hallmark in Linda Mar Center also called it quits. And Eureka Square recently lost First National Bank.

These are not struggling "mom-and-pops" but major franchise businesses. What happened? We're going to investigate further, but it's our understanding that over-the-top rents played a big role in driving them out of their locations.

....  Property owners love to complain that the city of Pacifica makes it "tough on them" when it comes to acquiring permits for new development. That does happen, but existing landlords and property owners also have a responsibility to this town, whether they live here or not.

....  In short, why is Pacifica letting absentee landlords and property owners get away with being irresponsible? I don't have all the answers, I'm just posing the question. "  Read Editorial.

This needs to be looked into and if true take some kind of action.

It is not protectionist or anti business to protect our small local businesses if a huge outside landlord is fleecing them.

At the very least look at the facts. And study methods that might deter shopping center owners from leaving large numbers of units vacant for long periods of time.

Free market is one thing, but if there's predatory pricing happening then the City needs to protect local small businesses.

You should ask Luigi, about how long he had to wait and pay rent before he could open his store.

Ask a certain shop owner how long before he could put a grill in his restaurant.

The planning department needs to be completely changed. A new director is the start but the employees who almost want to chase a new applicatant out the door when you walk in need to go.

Agree Anon. If the planning Dept is making it too tough for new businesses opening then they should be replaced with folks who will be on small businesses side.

It has not been established that the Planning Dept. is making it too tough for new businesses opening or chasing new applicants out the door. Why would they want to do that? Their job is to see that planning regulations are followed. If you're making nasty accusations, provide some evidence.

When food service is involved the county has much more say in permit issues for deli's and restaurants than the Planning Department or Commission. Jeeze folks do some basic homework.
