Pacifica - Recology notice to all residents - metal collection warning

                     Notice to All Residents::..............

Beware of flyers, pamphlets and posters regarding the collection of metal parts, electronics, appliances, etc. for recycling.

Click here to see an example of an unauthorized flyer.

These are NOT safe dealers and are not endorsed by Recology of the Coast nor do they have business permits through the City of Pacifica.

It is unknown where they take the scrap metal and appliances nor is it guaranteed that computer hard drives are cleared of all information after they are picked up from you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Customer Service Department at 650-355-9000. Thank you, -- Your friends at Recology of the Coast.

Note:  Chris Porter has allowed reprinting of  the Recology information ad found in the Pacifica Tribune as a courtesy to my request. These notices are of special interest to the community.  The vendor(s) in question do business with no name, no reputation, and their business practices are unknown.

Hello everyone...We have apprehended two different groups of people picking this material up the last three days. Both times the driver had no driver's license and one had no insurance. There were also additional personl problems. These materials can all be left curbside, at no charge, using your yearly two bulky item pickups. Any revenues received from recycling these materials are then channeled back into our programs. IF ANYONE GETS ONE OF THESE FORMS AT THEIR HOME, PLEASE FAX TO 650-359-9580 or e-mail to me at cporter@recology.com.

Swell, even worse background scenario for them than expected. "Apprehended?" Guess we'll be hearing more about them. Thanks for keeping us informed Chris!

Even if you think you have cleared your hard drive, chances are, you haven't. Take care of you data. Were you aware that copy machines have a little chip that records everything ever copied? Trade in you copier, trade in anything that has ever been copied! Scary, huh.

So we should fax these recycle forms to the "Garbage Police?"

Uh, I don't think so. I filled one out, and got my 120+ lb. wall oven taken away at curbside for zero dollars. Recology wants money for it. We don't need to pay for it.

You can also take computer moniters and other e-waste stuff to Goodwill in South City and they charge ZERO.

Anonymous 9:47 PM ..Please read my May 10th post. Recology will give each home a two bulky item curbside pickups free of charge a year so all the items you listed would be free or if you have used your two free curbside pickups, you can bring all items you listed to the recycling yard at 1046 Palmetto Avenue, Monday thru Saturday from 8am to 4pm FREE OF CHARGE ALWAYS. Are you new to this town because these programs have been available for years FREE OF CHARGE. Why would you drive to SSF or why would you give your personal information to "poachers"? As far as the garbage police comment goes, I am trying to protect my customers.

Isn't there a weight limit on your pickups? Seems to me it was 100 lbs. or less. Maybe the competition's making you guys feel the heat. Your customers finally have a choice.

"...weight limit on your pickups?.." Anonymous 6:25 pm.

FYI, also check the annual Recycling..Brochure. "...each on-call collection is limited to 5 garbage bags or 1 bulky item, not to exceed 200 pounds total of unwanted debris. If you wish to use both your collections at the same time you may request it when you place your order." M-F, any day you choose, need 24 hour advance, no carryover to next year. Not accepted on-call: construction, demolition debris, rock, dirt, concrete, hazardous waste, paint, liquids or chemicals. Questions call 650-355-9000.

Chris may have something else to add, but that's the printed 2011-12 brochure information. Happened to have mine handy because I refer to it periodically.

Anonymous or is it Anonymoui...As Kathy stated there is a 200 lb weight limit on one item...Sorry, its a workman's comp thing. I would think you would like to have us pickup these items so the revenues received would go back into our programs to pay wages and other expenses.

I would think that we should have a reasonable price for recycling stuff in Pacifica, but we don't.

Curbside recyclers are fair competiton to the monopoly bleeding us dry.

"...reasonable price for recycling stuff in Pacifica".

Anonymous 9:32 PM, remember picking-up your junk curbside would have been "free" through Recology, with your choice of dates. But, you chose a no identity pick-up services on their date of pick-up. We have a reliable, earth friendly trash pick-up service here, and the pricing is fair. Be happy.

Hello Anonymous 9:32 PM You're kidding me, right? Free is free my friend.

Recology concerned about their monopoly on recyclables being violated.

Say Chris, when you say "apprehended" did our police assist you in removing your competition?

Free is never free with a monopoly. Competiton brings down prices. Wish we had more of it.
