Half Moon Bay - no fireworks for July 4th this year

.... Fundraising woes have led organizers to pull the plug on this year’s Fourth of July fireworks show on the coast.

Organizers through the Coastside’s American Legion Post 474 say they decided last month to cancel the pyrotechnics display because large donors did not pledge money soon enough toward the estimated $50,000 cost of the fireworks. Time was running out and the Legion needed to start paying for the lion’s share of permits and services, explained fireworks fund treasurer Harry Ysselstein.  

.... The fireworks show has a long history of challenges on the Coastside, and the event has been canceled numerous times in recent years. Fog sometimes shrouds the show. In 2006, an organization called “Light Up the Sky Fourth of July,” run by a convicted felon, abruptly closed shop and failed to deliver a show after collecting money on the coast.  Read Article.
