Reminder - Two council forums tonight, 10/4/12 - 6 PM and 8 PM

6 PM  PCT 26.   Environmental focus city council forum - televised tape.
8 PM. PCT 26.   Pacifica Tribune city council forum, live at PCT studio, not public.

Both televised on  PCT 26 community television.

Ah, considering the vote for 3 city council candidates this year
Why do we know the 8 PM city council forum will be televised this time?   Ian Butler's 10/3/12, 8:04 PM comment on the environmental focus city council candidates forum article. He advised:

"PCT was unable to air all of the three forums at the Council Chambers live, therefore they decided that to be fair they wouldn't air any of them live. They will however be airing tomorrow's forum at PCT studios live at 8:00. (Thursday Oct. 4th).

The environmental forum will air prior to that at 6:00. In addition, it will rebroadcast Sunday, Oct 7th at 12 noon, and Thursday, October 11th at 5:30."

Fix pacifica should cover these events. Pacifica index does.

So I hear someone had a little problem?

Anonymous said...

Sarah Palin never said that , the snl Tina Fey said that impersonating Gov Palin.

Anonymous said...

Sarah Palin can play my flute anywhere, here, Russia . . . her porch . . . mrowr!

Anonymous said...

Don't leave us hanging..what kind off little problem? Did it involve a flute or other musical instrument? You can omit the name/s, describe it, and let us guess.

Anonymous said...

To quote the words of the famous Led Zepplin.
It was a communications breakdown.

Sarah Palin, said it first. She said I am good with foreign relations cause we deal with Russia all the time. They are so close to use we can see them from my house.

Anonymous said...

You are a liar. Gov. Palin never said that. But, Barack Barry Hussein Soetero, oh whatever the f his name is said, "I have been to 57 states"

The communists are really good at accusing people of doing something that they done themselves, first, before you can catch and report them.

@255 With all due respect to Led Zeppelin, wtf are you talking about. And please don't make me watch the rerun. I can't, I just can't. All that grinnin' and spinnin'. It's a nausea problem.

Anonymous said...

839AM Of course she said it. Palin admits she said it. She was filmed saying it. And, Obama probably said 57 states. So what? This nonsense is what you care about?

Just like all the rest of the lazy lumps on the log in this town. Do your own homework. Put your Budweiser down.

So one guy throws a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at the school board.

Another want to be city council person has a meltdown on the big stage.

Didn't we learn our lesson, with another x city council man who was deemed unstable?

Anonymous said...

if I attended a church for 22 years with a preacher that yelled "God Damn America" on a daily basis, along with spreading hate speech targeting people of color, would you vote for me?

Anonymous said...

I heard about the PB&J incident, (although not sure if it's realy true) but who had a "meltdown on the big stage" and where? I haven't heard of any such thing. Or maybe it's typical FixPacifica exaggeration.

Prove it Bud or shut up.

Anonymous said...

While we're "deeming" people unstable how about those who engage in anonymous, untrue trash talk. Unstable or just trash? Probably both.

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:12 was Meeh. It sounds just like her.

Kathy Meeh said...

Anon, 5:21 PM, the 3:12 PM comment was not mine, but its worth repeating:

"While we're "deeming" people unstable how about those who engage in anonymous, untrue trash talk. Unstable or just trash? Probably both."

I know, you can probably see Russia from your house.

Anonymous said...

@819 Nope, but I wouldn't vote for you regardless of which church you attend.

Anonymous said...

The peanut butter & jelly story has been verified.

He threw it at the School board.

Unstable!

Anonymous said...

He did not throw the sandwich at the school board. Maybe O'Neil would say that because he wants to be elected. He tossed a plastic wrapped PB&J that is served at the schools on a table. He didn't throw it. Maybe you believe there was al-Qaeda in Iraqwhen Sadamm was still in charge and that there really were wmd's in Iraq despite what the inspectors were saying.

Anonymous said...

And you think that is the way council members and attorney's and EPA employees should act.

You have deep deep problems.

Anonymous said...

a toss or drop of something is different than actually throwing it, so just keep up the lies. I guess your are trying to be Rovesque. IE if you perpetuate a lie long enough it becomes truth.

Anonymous said...

I was told Vellone had a panic attach and couldn't finish the last debate. Is this what the vague hints are about and can anyone verify if it is true?

Kathy Meeh said...

1:15 PM, not sure where you're getting your information, or if its information. Susan Vellone and other city council candidates have not had "panic attacks" during their city council candidate debates, period.

Anonymous said...

Here's the PCT link to the AAUW debate. Watch for yourself and decide.

Anonymous said...

Kathy you are wrong. I just watched it and she said it herself at about 8 minutes and 45 seconds into it..."I am sorry I am having a little panic attack". Then at about 30 seconds later she says, " I am sorry I just can't do this.....". Too bad I wish her the best.

Kathy Meeh said...

Unfortunately my computer system is not allowing me to replay PCT tapes. Last debate, if that was the PCT/Tribune debate, I recall every candidate participating for the duration. (A momentary comment is less than significant, but if any candidate needs medical care, hopefully that would be attended to).

I'm beginning to believe the Chamber of Commerce PAC got their recommendation for City Council right: Vellone, Nihart, O'Neill. That does not imply that both Victor Spano and Karen Ervin are not good, qualified candidates. Clearly they are.

But in the two-year term contest between Spano and O'Neill, who is most likely to win? Vote for that one, otherwise the vote is split and Campbell wins.

Why not Richard Campbell? His view and his supporters are NIMBY. He was just endorsed by the Sierra Club (Loma Prieta Chapter). That is the same Loma Prieta Sierra Club chapter on record against Pacifica 1) highway 1 widening, and 2) quarry development. Our NIMBIES network with their members and other regional NIMBIES to defeat Government agencies, developers and elections which bring economic development and progress to this city.

Anonymous said...

Pacifica politics is widely and justifiably regarded as the vilest in the county, perhaps in several counties. It's unrealistic, but I actually hope that neither Sue Vellone nor Karen Ervin are elected. They are very decent and well-intentioned people who really don't know what they are getting into and what kind of despicable garbage they will have to associate with in office. I think O'Neill and Campbell know what they'd be getting into and I'll vote for O'Neill, but I wish them both well.

Anonymous said...

I think Susan Vellone has found out just who her friends are and aren't. Good thing to know.

Anonymous said...

Anon 430. My sentiments exactly. I would have preferred to see Spano run for the four year term, because I think he could have been elected.

Anonymous said...

I like that Spano isn't impressed with that bullshit plan for the OWWTP and unlike other candidates won't kiss ass about it with the "new library" crowd. He's very tactful about it but identifies the obvious problems with the plan. Let's not forget that, unlike all of the other candidates, this guy has some experience on the subject of economic development. Don't think he has a chance in this election but just about everyone has to run a couple times to get in. We'll be even poorer, if not bankrupt, in 2014. An expert could be useful. Run again!

Hutch said...

Even if someone did have a panic attack that's not a disqualifier for me. Everybody has some little issue. As long as they're not mumbling about sea levels rising.

Anonymous said...

Vellone seemed just fine as she explained her situation. No tears, no drama, no rambling. She got right to the point and made it clear she'd sit in the audience and listen to the candidates. Nice way to handle it. These things happen and she handled it very well.

Anonymous said...

She didn't throw anything or start bawling.

Anonymous said...

Meeh, buy a new computer!

Anonymous said...

Campbell continues to impress in the forums. This guy is a very strong candidate. The usual anti-enviro attacks are not going to stick to him for most voters. His personable, reasonable and well-spoken style make the attackers sound absolutely ridiculous. He'll be tough to stop.

Anonymous said...

Maybe vellone couldn't deal with the local windbags telling her what to do and say!

Anonymous said...

Her candidacy isn't part of the master plan. All the more reason to support her.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...
"Campbell continues to impress ...The usual anti-enviro attacks are not going to stick to him for most voters."

The Sierra Club endorsement will hurt his chances. Most people in this town are tiered of the stagnation from these hippies.

Anonymous said...

The only person who thinks Rich Campbell, Is such a great guy Is Rich Campbell.

Anonymous said...

@816 He doesn't come across as a hippie or an environmental radical.
He presents as a rational, reasonable, involved Pacifican.
Most of the criticism of Campbell is overheated junk like the post@847.

nyuk nyuk said...

Rich Campbell = Jim Vreeland = Mitt Romney.

Kathy Meeh said...

"Vellone seemed just fine as she explained her situation." Anonymous, 10/9, 9:26 PM

Agreed. And my notes of the PCT/Tribune forum, televised 10/4/12, indicate Susan Vellone participated in comment responses along with other candidates for the entire debate. That's what I remembered.

The side "panic attack" comment, and offer to sit in the audience was so unimportant FMV, I didn't bother to write it down. Happy to be "wrong" according to your technical criteria, Anonymous 3:21 PM. The fact is nothing changed, the forum comments continued with Susan Vellone.

As Hutch said 10/9, 8:59 PM, "Everybody has some little issue. As long as they're not mumbling about sea levels rising."

Trust me, most small business owners do experience some issues of anxiety. That's what we small business owners call "normal response". Think about it.

Anonymous said...

That actually makes me respect the hell out of her. Anybody who suffers panic attacks has to have steel balls to run for a public office.

Anonymous said...

She had my vote last time and she's got it again. We need people
like her, honest and down to earth.
It seems her candidacy may upset someone's applecart, but so what? It's not about your freakin' applecart.

Anonymous said...

Honey, it's menopause and can't do a thing about it. Just need to manage the symptoms.

Anonymous said...

Your bias is showing. If the same thing happened to someone like Vreeland or Dejarnatt - or Rich Campbell in the current race - you'd be all over it like white on rice.

Anonymous said...

Oh no, a crying, bitchy, raging council. That's all we need here. Wait a minute. We already have that. Whew.

Anonymous said...

Well ok, then she's got the female vote.

Anonymous said...

@946 Let's think about that for just a moment. Nah.

Anonymous said...

I like Susan personally, but let's be honest here, we need a council that can take the pressure of public office. In her own words, "I'm having a panic attack. It's just me, it's what I do." In other words this wasn't a one time thing. That is a deal breaker for me. Susan can serve our community in many roles, but council member isn't one of them.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...
Your bias is showing. If the same thing happened to someone like Vreeland...

Vreeland's dementia was self inflicted. Not the same.

Anonymous said...

Anon at 7:12 am today, could it be Susan is too "real" for you. She is running a full time 7 day a week business. She is on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and a very active member in the Pacifica Rotary and Pacificans Care. She, by the way, is also running for Council. I see someone that is totally involved with the community and is making the next logical step in running for Council. She has more on her plate locally except Maryann. So what if she had a misstep. She will not be a yes person to other Council members, what they seem to be looking for, but a voice that will listen to all the people in town who comprise the groups she already belongs to. If anyone does not vote for Susan, you are really missing an opportunity to get fresh thinking involved in City politics, someone who knows how this City runs from her business experience and someone who knows the needs of the community.

Anonymous said...

Vellone's independent streak, and O'Neill's, would be a much needed breath of fresh air on this stale, arrogant council.

Anonymous said...

I watched the whole tape of the forum. Vellone handled her moment fine. No tears, no sobs, just a straight-forward, here's what's going on statement. Shit happens to us all and how you handle it is what counts. She was true to herself..honest, down to earth, humble...how refreshing. We desperately need those qualities on this stale, secretive, self-important council. Vellone and O'Neill will be great for Pacifica.

Anonymous said...

Campbell still leads the pack in casual Brown act violations and hysterical fans

Anonymous said...

O'neil is afraid of the dark!

Anonymous said...

Vellone got hysterical and pouty? is she TB??

Anonymous said...

Oh somebody moved that rock again. Look what crawled out at 601.

Anonymous said...

Let me guess 555, 559, 601. Nihart and her wind-ups Ervin and Spano?

Anonymous said...

uh oh sounds like a little too much "drama" in here!

Anonymous said...

Oh boy. Either you you you people are Vellone's neighbor, family member or you owe her money.

She cracked under pressure.

Not political material.

Btw she is way too into her self. You claim to be 50, so act like it!

Anonymous said...

spoken like a true mean girl

Anonymous said...

"she cracked under pressure"

beach side man hunt? :)

Anonymous said...

@739 Vellone isn't political material? Yeah, because our standards in Pacifica are so high.
Have you seen what we have on council? Blubbering, rambling, burned-out, Stone-faced, and a volunteer visibly wishing she hadn't. Toss in Ritzma and Rhodes and you've got the 7 dwarfs.

Anonymous said...

Nihart has weight issues.
Ervin is a milk toast.
Spano is a contender.
Vellone is tough.
O'Neill is decisive.

Vellone and O'Neill.

Anonymous said...

@800 that's funny. any Vreelander sightings?

Anonymous said...

yeah, Chris Christie should never have been elected Governor of New Jersey because he has "weight issues." That's the stupidest comment I've read on this blog.

Anonymous said...

@959 oh lighten up. nihart is not in the same class. in so
many ways. gov christie is a walking heart attack. watching him go ballistic is like watching a fat Tod S. you know tomorrow you'll be saying something else is the stupidest comment ever. here ya go..how long do you think it'll be before Tod starts attacking nihart and stone? Must see TV!

Anonymous said...

Honk if you're from Jersey!

Anonymous said...

Wait we had a fat President. Wasn't it Taft?

Wait, Vreeland never had anxiety issues.

Sneaky Pete, said he ate a few tar balls on the beach!

Anonymous said...

So Hippies? Tell me one thing Tod S. said at council, that wasn't a stone cold lead pipe fact?

I am waiting!

Steve Sinai said...

Tod S. is usually right. The problem is his uncivil behavior while addressing Council. His message gets lost in the delivery.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, but you remember what he said Steve

Anonymous said...

Nihart struggles with where the wind blows.
Ervin has to make picture poster boards of what makes her feel good and then post it all over facebook.

Vellone works many hours running a sucessful business and is a member of Pacifica Chamber of Commerce.

O'Neill makes tough financial decisions which gave the pacifica school district a healthy and stable environment to work in.

Spano has really good campaign signs.

Campbell is a bit dramatic.

Vote Vellone and O'Neill.

Anonymous said...

I don't even think Tod remembers much less anyone listening to him. He is full of rage at those televised meetings. In other settings he does have some excellent ideas and he's been around long enough to have a healthy distrust of all politicians. When he's in front of the camera, however, he acts crazy. Cheap thrills for those who just want to see council squirm but it makes many more very uneasy. Tod's got a habit and it won't end well.

Steve Sinai said...

"Yeah, but you remember what he said Steve "

I can't even remember what I've said before council, much less what Tod said.

I just know that when I'm watching Tod at the podium, I'm thinking what he's saying is right, but nobody's paying attention because they're focusing on his behavior.

I'm pretty sure council tunes him out.

Anonymous said...

They'd like to tune him out and unfortunately they do tune out the message but that rage isn't so easy to ignore.

Anonymous said...

Every time he speaks, he embarrasses Pacifica.

Anonymous said...

It's O'Neill and Vellone. Let's move forward for a change.

Anonymous said...

The more i see of nihart the more i'm reminded of vreeland before his meltdown and ours. She gets hung up on inclusiveness and consensus building and appealing to a broader base much more than he did, but the political methods are so similar.

Anonymous said...

@1242 He is Pacifica..howling at the moon, no progress, good concept crippled by poor delivery, and the total far less than the sum of its parts, that's Pacifica.

Kathy Meeh said...

Tod brings up some issues that others do not. And usually over a certain about of his silliness, some of us actually do hear and understand his core message. Tod shows up at almost every city council meeting to voice city issues. That's kind of neat! (Whereas most of us do not show up at city council meetings to voice our opinions).

I admire Tod's ability to feel comfortable speaking in front of an audience. But rage? Although many of us may repel rage, the justification is in the 30 year agenda of limited economic progress keeping Pacifica poor and dysfunctional. Occasionally Tod is a statesman, and FMV that is when he is at his best.

Thanks for showing up, and delivering your message, Tod! Got to love attack criticism from anonymous people who probably do not show-up, and cannot even sign their name to the trash they say. That makes you Tod a hero, and the detractors much less than that.

Anonymous said...

did he get tossed out last meeting?

Anonymous said...

funny how the people who criticize tod . . . never go to council.

Anonymous said...

I voted for Tod. I know politically we would not agree on many things, but I do like his ideas for Pacifica. I feel somewhat comforted knowing he shows up at all the cc meetings. Thank you , Tod. If he was voted in, I believe a lot would of been accomplished.

Anonymous said...

No difference in watching it at home or being there. His behavior is appalling. Egging him on is neither smart nor kind.

Anonymous said...

@556 Been there and seen him live and ranting. At home the remote is handy.

Anonymous said...

i watched the council meeting. what was bad about tod's behavior? he called out the council for not doing their jobs, and called pete an obstructionsist. and blamed the failed local economy on the do nothings. what am i missing? dejarnatt is not supposed to talk over the public. do you understand it is "we the people" in this country?

Anonymous said...

Tod ain't my people. And as someone said earlier, it's not what he says, but how he says it.

Anonymous said...

847anon Jersey? someone with such a thick skin and strong stomach should be on council, or was it thick hair and strong back? Whatev, we need some real tuffies because it's going to get a lot worse.

Anonymous said...

Nihart plays with your mind.

Ervin plays on facebook.

Vellone plays when she has time off.

O'Neill plays hard works hard.

Spano plays at staying relevant.

Campbell gets mad when you play with his food.

Vote Vellone and O'Neill.
