I say Kathleen, is that cat wearing a honeydew melon? How very organic. Ought to be all the rage among certain Pacificans.

Kathy,

Again Half Moon Bay, not Pacifica.

Writing note to self, Buy Kathy, a map for Christmas!

Then again, you may never find your way out of Pacifica to buy that map, Anonymous 12:28 PM.

Pacifica Chamber of Commerce has provided a great service to our community this year. The Chamber has sponsored the city council candidates forums, questions with candidate answers and comments. From that process, the Chamber has offered city council candidate recommendations, namely Mary Ann Nihart, Susan Vellone, and Mike O'Neill.

Half Moon Bay is sponsoring a city council candidate forum tomorrow, 10/27/12. Half Moon Bay Chamber of Commerce may have learned from Pacifica's experience.

For those who have the capacity to focus on the article, the Half Moon Bay city council forum will be moderated by the League of Women Voters, which is always a reliable, neutral political resource. The forum guidelines are included, and these are solid, generic rules.

I don't even like Kathy Meeh, but you , who point out when she posts articles of subjects that necessarily do not have much to do with pacifica, are quite annoying. Who made you director of blog articles? Shut up and don't read it if you are no interested.

"...don't read it if you are not interested." Anonymous 4:17 PM.

We agree on civility, and I'm amused by the balance of your comment.

Several years ago, the professional construction consultant for the latest attempt to develop the quarry said: "for Pacifica solutions, you have to look for answers outside Pacifica," (paraphrased). I think her global view of fact finding, and thinking about relational comparisons leading to broader thinking, answers and solutions is viable at any level.

Otherwise, the discovery and the conversation tends to be narrow and limited. Kind of like tossing jello in a covered bowl back and forth, back and forth.

@417 After the first couple of attacks, it became poking the bear. Cheap psycho thrills for someone who also doesn't like Ms. Meeh. Don't like her? Don't read her. Got an agenda other than Meeh-bashing? Start your own blog.

You can buy them online! Why give the sales tax to Pacifica?

This is supposed to be a blog about Pacifica, and it seems perfectly valid for people to complain about wading through all the rambling, off-topic posts to find something related to Pacifica. It's even worse when the liberal political garbage draws in the rabid right-wingers.

Kathy Meeh said...

Hey Anonymous 9:20 AM, if you want something "all about Pacifica", no one is preventing you from posting that article, or a series of articles. Read the open invitation to submit articles blog upper left.

According to your personal "all about Pacifica" criteria then, Fix Pacifica has been "off topic" and "rambling" (similar to your comment for this article) since the beginning.

You think Pacifica is not political, populated with vested interests, right-wingers, moderates, and left-wingers. Are you living on the planet?

Kathy,

Everyone reads this dribble in other papers 3 days before you post it here.

You are becoming Ms. Irrelevant

Anonymous said...

The only time we get the extremist, right-wing noise in response to your polarizing left-wing posts. See the Occupy comment in response to your off-topic "Extremism in America" article as an example.

Anonymous said...

The correct word is "drivel".

Anonymous said...

I don't read papers. Get with the new age. I am smirkng. I know why you commies don't like it when she posts articles that have nothing to do with Pacifica. You don't want the truth to be known. At least Kathy will debate, the rest of you are cowards and liars. Commies.

Kathy Meeh said...

Isn't your comment "irrelevant" again, Anonymous, 11:11 AM? FYI, 991 people viewed articles on this blog yesterday, 23,282 for the month. That's the audience, articles are viewed, so guess we like the "3 day old dribble".

This is a blog, generally we share information (source and reprint). But, article discussion usually requires a certain amount of thoughtful consideration and intelligence. Why don't you try discussing articles or even submitting articles for a change, rather than acting like a doofus.

Anonymous said...

991 people yesterday. 23,282 I call bs!

Only about 12 people post

Anonymous said...

Sure 733, Anonymous is one. And here I am arguing with my self again.

Anonymous said...

Kathy, those aren't 991 people in a day or 23,282 people in a month. Those are views. Every time I reload the page to see if there are new comments, it's counted as a view. A handful of people can generate 23,000 views in a month.

Kathy Meeh said...

"991 people viewed articles on this blog yesterday, 23,282 for the month. That's the audience, articles are viewed.." my comment 12:09 PM. Changes to: "People viewed 991 article comments on this blog yesterday, 23,282 for the month."

You are correct Anonymous 8:42 PM, and thank you for that clarification.

Beyond that, 1) we do not know how many people view blog articles without opening comments. 2) We do not know how many return during the day, and view article comments. But, 3) viewing 991 separate article comments daily (or a 30 average of 776 daily), represents a whole lot more than "a hand full of people". I do know that the numbers are growing steadily over time.

Steve Sinai said...

View statistics can be very misleading. Half of those 991 views should be tossed out, since they register as being on the blog for 0 seconds.

From what I can tell by looking at the StatCounter statistics, the blog has 200-300 hard core readers, i.e., people who spend more than a few minutes on the blog every 2 or 3 days. We have a few hundred per day who spend at least a minute on the blog, and then never come back.

Kathy Meeh said...

^^^ 10:38 PM, 3rd paragraph, "30 day average of 776".

Steve, your 11:10 PM comment has insight beyond the numbers. You said "we have a few hundred per day who spend at least a minute on the blog..", and 200-300 who spend more than a few minutes every 2 or 3 days.

Is it correct that the count occurs only when comments in an article are viewed, or is it also the case that viewing the blog is counted? Otherwise, what would cause the 0 minutes count?

Anonymous said...

He doesn't know he makes it up as he goes along. 200-250 hard core readers. I would say more like 20-25.

Hutch said...

991 one day views aren't shabby for a local blog. Too bad you can't monetize it even if you put the money back into the blog.

I believe the Trib prints about 5,000 copies per week. Maybe 2 or three readers each paper. Plus their views inline are probably ok.

It may surprise some people but print advertising still dominates online. More people use print to check advertising and most retail sales are made through print ads. Internet is catching up though.

Disclaimer: I'm in print advertising.

Anonymous said...

I'd venture a guess that 80% of those page views are generated by the same 10 people obsessively refreshing their browser over and over.

Anonymous said...

Every day? Funny.

Steve Sinai said...

Kathy, I'm looking at the statistics from StatCounter, which is the little odometer-looking thing at the bottom of the page that shows the number of visitors. Those statistics are much more detailed than the ones offered by Blogger. It includes things like how long people were viewing the blog.

StatCounter only logs one visit from an IP address per hour, in order not to over-count in cases where someone repeatedly clicks around in the blog.

The 200-300 guesstimate comes from tallying common IP addresses over the course of a few days. That was from about six months ago.

Kathy Meeh said...

"StatCounter only logs one visit from an IP address per hour, in order not to over-count in cases where someone repeatedly clicks around in the blog." Steve Sinai, Blogmaster, 10:21 AM

So with StatCounter, one person clicking around the blog within one hour counts as one viewer. Got it, that seems realistic and fair.

When one of these blogger readership commentaries occurs again, we will look to you for answers. I'm sure you have deeply disappointed the anonymous person who insists only 20-30 people view this blog, ha!

Hutch brought up advertising to further increase readership, but to date it has been your choice not to advertise, whereas John Maybury (Riptide blog) has.

Quick reminder for those who just can't get enough local news, note the "Pacifica News Feed" on the lower left side of the blog. The feed is carrying Patch news articles.
