Holiday spending frenzy, try to spend a little money in Pacifica

San Jose Mercury News Business/Healther Somerville, 12/2/13.  "More holiday shoppers buy later and on line."

"Once slighted as a marketing gimmick by online retailers, Cyber Monday has turned into one of the holiday shopping season's most important selling days -- and this year its record-setting totals could help make up for lackluster sales over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Much of the retail spending has shifted, not disappeared, to online and to later in the holiday season, say retail experts. By mid-afternoon on Monday, online sales were up 17.5 percent from the year before, according to IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark, the arm of IBM that tracks real-time retail sales, with the day's total take predicted to top $2 billion."   Read more if you care to.

"Imaginations everywhere have been stoked since Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced his company plans to start offering 30-minute deliveries via drone-like "octocopters." What's not fascinating about a near future in which fleets of whirring sky robots can drop our every impulse buy on our doorstep..."  Article includes the Amazon drone video, and if you continue watching, CNN Money cell phone index technology, one card videos, etc., with commercials.

Pacifica has slept through every economic fart, belch, frenzy and bonanza for decades. We're in a vegetative state with a psych nurse and a scientist running the show. Sure, let's try to Christmas shop in Pacifica. Safeway has a great selection of gift cards for stores we don't have.

Besides groceries who shops in Pacifica.

Can you buy shoes?
Can you buy decent clothes?
Can you buy a tv?
Can you buy a washer or dryer?
Can you buy a pair of Levi'?

No to all of the above.

When it comes to discount clothes and shoes, a few household goods and lower-end electronics, Pacifica's got you covered. And don't forget the Goodwill store. Hohoho.

Thanks Anon 1:19 for providing facts to counter false beliefs.

I've bought washer and dryer before through appliance sales and repair people in Pacifica. And you can always buy jeans at Ross. Maybe not always Levi's brand but similar.

Yup, we're just damn lucky our expectations are so low. Nearly subterranean.

If you like to go out in your sweats and bedroom slippers, you'll love shopping in Pacifica.

You folks who want to trash talk Pacifica should know that you're not helping to fix Pacifica, you're part of the problem.

Let's have happy talk dammit! Malcontents will attend group therapy. Headlocks follow for any stubborn cases. You're all gonna chirp, or else!

814, as another Anonymous so aptly said, "the damage is done". But maybe you were just dropped into this city from Amazon "octocopter" delivery.

People who rejoice in bad-mouthing our community have a very simple solution: please just move away and STFU.

Seriously, why do you stay in a place that you consider such a hell hole? I agree with some of your comments, and I also wish the NIMBYs weren't ruining our economy, but that doesn't mean I don't still love it here. You should just end your suffering and move away.

1047 You keep chugging that kool-aid. As a responsible Pacifica taxpayer for decades, I don't have to move, don't have to chirp, and sure as hell don't have to STFU. Maybe if more of us had called'foul' earlier instead of buying the propaganda, we wouldn't be in this mess.

@1047 Positive thinking has its limits. And no one commenting here on the truly sad state of Pacifica is rejoicing. That's your spin.

1047, so your solution to an improved city economy is say nothing, enable NIMBIES, and tell others to leave town. After all, those who advocate for better conditions are "part of the problem", as described by you in your 814 comment.

You may love living in the "outpost", but others find the lack of commerce, and failure of city council to move this city forward disturbing. We all live in the "outpost", we all have a say. You don't get to pick and choose who you want to move out-of-town.

The city economy, services, jobs, infrastructure are all inadequate. That's not "bad mouthing", that's a fact. The latest hit is school tax funding.

Kathy, 1047 and 814 are not the same person.

So it's the NIMBYs fault that Pacificans "like to go out in your sweats and bedroom slippers." And that's not "bad mouthing", that's a fact.

I've said it before. All our financial problems could be solved if all the hippies men & women went to barbers and hairdressers. And people would be prettier too.
