Item 6, related, Fix Pacifica reprint article. Pacifica Tribune/My Turn/Jim Wagner and Mark Stechbart, 1/19/17, "Highway 1 is Pacifica's lifeline." Additional comment, from the Fix article. "Council to Waste a Quarter of a Million Dollars. So we are going to spend $250,000 of money, designated for fixing our highway, on a system (InSync) that won't work when we need it!!? The company itself says it won't work during peak hours. Who's brilliant idea is this? Oh, let me guess. Is it the same council member that failed to show up for her own meeting with this company where they told the city it won't work a few years ago? hmmmmm. This is crazy. Fix the highway and quit fooling around. It's a choke point and it's dangerous." (Jim Wagner)

I don't have a problem with giving InSync a try, as long as everyone's clear this is just a trial and has a fixed end date at which point the results will be analyzed. It looks like the widening is on hold until Caltrans finds some new wetlands to mitigate any damage done to the (man-made) wetlands along Highway 1, and given how long it takes the state to do anything, that may take awhile. In the meantime, try the InSync product and see how it goes. I doubt it will work, but computer models aren't perfect, so there's an outside chance it will have some effect. If it fails, at least that could cause a few of the NIMBYS to start facing reality when it comes to practical solutions.
So it's going to cost Pacifica $250,000 to hopefully get a few NIMBY's to face reality.
NOBY's already have their own reality which is antithetical to a functional city for all. Their only criteria is "I got mine, screw every one else".
Why are we wasting all this money to lipstick on pigs?
How can anyone oppose upgraded signal system in Pacifica.
The money won't come from Pacifica general fund. They will ask Transportation Authority to reprogram $250,000 of the $4 million set aside for design of the highway widening project. The widening will never happen anyway, so why not ask for a small part of that money to improve the traffic light system?
I've been out and about the Bay Area recently. Marin, East Bay, Central Valley. Traffic sucks everywhere. 5 lanes going 5 m/p/h for MILES almost had me snap, on a Sunday. We need to look into whatever will make it more efficient in our town, we will never return to that easy, breezy cruise from back in the day. I figured out if I was going to be stuck in traffic, I love having the best view in the world.
