Ok Pacifica is pretty quiet at 2PM any day of the week. How about 11pm? Or 2AM?

Notice that most of the problems are in Linda Mar and Park Pacifica, ha. That's why I live in Sharp Park.

Still all mostly very minor crimes. Nothing compared with what South City or Daly City PD has to deal with. Major drug dealers, gangs, rapes, robberies, murders. But still our cops are paid more than both those cities?

Outsource. Before the county uses up its capacity to take us. We are not the only town with issues and the others are probably smarter and faster.
Outsourcing the PD could be just the first step in getting things turned around. That police station was built to hold more than the cops and it can do that with or without a second story. It's a huge, underutilized building. There is plenty of parking front and back. As it exists now, the SMC sheriffs will not need the whole thing. Move City Hall, PBR and Planning to the police station. Compared to the crumbling, dangerous workplaces those people have now, the police station is a palace--even filled with desks and cubicles. That opens up the vacated prime real estate (Francisco and Santa Maria) which also includes the huge parking lot by the Thai place, to be sold. I don't even think it's in the coastal zone so it really is prime real estate. And for god's sake don't hex it with any ridiculous plans. Apartments, mixed use, whatever the developer has in mind to make it profitable for himself.
While we're dreaming...find another spot for the city corp yard other than the prime real estate on Oceana and get that on the market for housing or mixed use. These valuable properties are close to shopping, transit, highways and they are being wasted on city offices and equipment.

Wake up city council! Stop picking our pockets and make smarter use of what you have. Until then don't count on people buying your bull about more taxes.

Here here! I would vote for you Anon 238. Agree 100%. This tiny city is wasting so much prime real estate on storage yards and office. The same thing I have been saying about the old sewer plant property for 10 years. We should have been leasing it to a restaurant all these years.

Name another city that is down to only 2 weeks payroll in reserves.

Do I have a motion for In and Out Burger @ the Corp Yard!??

4:15 In & Out came and took a look at Pacifica and passed.

When was that?

Wait till you see how much the S.O. cops make. Think our boys make too much?? More pay, less cops, bottom line. Just ask our Council who has had the numbers since last February.

When you're comparing costs of a hometown PD vs the SMC Sheriffs you have to include more than just salaries in the comparison. There is a lot of other expense involved with the hometown operation which Pacifica pays for all by itself. With the Sheriffs Department those "other expenses" are shared with other cities who have also outsourced. Something to consider along with the better resources and growth opportunities with the county.
Could be that the savings weren't quite as much as council expected, but that was no reason to sit on the info for a year. More likely the timing was bad being an election year. Can't wait to see how city staff spins that report they're working on. It's not like we can go on the way we have for much longer. Tick tock.

And if we outsource to the Sheriff maybe some of these meth houses all over Pacifica will finally be targeted. Pacifica PD doesn't have the resources to do an undercover investigation and bust these guys. That's why most neighborhoods have at least one of these drug dealing houses operating for a decade or more.

Time to move on up.
