Measure A public transportation money at work, plus 25% matching city and private monies. Recology of the Coast has already pledged $7,500 annual contribution.
Is "free" shuttle service one less thing for Tripdvisor commenters to complain about? Will the shuttle connect to transportation out-of-town? The benefit to locals without cars is obvious. Where will hikers that use this shuttle park? What does Pacifica lose by accepting $7 million Measure A monies to adopting this shuttle service?

This was the Chamber of Commerce's idea and not Mariann's. Typical politics. Someone else comes up with the idea and the local politician takes credit. Oh yah, that's right, it's election year.
This kind of shuttle was the type of thing Sue Digre always used to push for. We had a similar shuttle previously, and it failed.
I'm happy to give it another chance, but I suspect this shuttle will fail, too.
Most of the year this would be a waste.
Special event days? would be a boon.

One of the main ideas behind this new Shuttle was to transport people up to the outside area of the Devil's Slide Tunnel when the area opens. The money was avaialble now so the Chamber had an idea and went to City Hall with it. The City Manager put two and two together and we submitted our application. There will have to matching funds put up by the businesses of Pacifica for us to qualify for this grant so the Chamber has worked from within to get this for our City. Tunnel trip will most probably start next year but we need to get our foot in the door now. MaryAnne, Sue and Steve Rhodes along with Van O'Campo and another gentleman who's name slips my mind right now along with Courtney Conlon, Sandi Anderson, Mary Brown and me from the Chamber gathered together to try to make this happen. One of the requirements is not to duplicate the routes already run by Caltrans so we tried to get a route that covers the Oceana Senior Facility thru Pedro Point. As mentioned before, the ride to the base of the tunnel will hopefully begin next year.
I can't imagine there will be so many people wanting to hike that trail that they can support a shuttle. But we'll see.
Excuse me but why would Pacifica businesses want to pay for people to be brought to the Devils Slide Tunnel trail to hike?
Is that the main purpose of it?
We need to be doing things that help local businesses.
I could see if this shuttle went from one shopping district to the next. But to pretty much shuttle people out of town makes no sense.
The people taking a shuttle to Devil's Slide aren't going to be hiking off into the sunset -- they'll be taking the shuttle back from whence they came and will hopefully be stopping off at one of our restaurants along the stops there or back.
Will a rider count be made weekly to see if this shutttle actually attracts riders? Wonder what the per rider cost will be. The last Digre shuttle had such a low ridership, probably cheaper to pay for a cab!
Thank you Chris Fogel for getting the concept. The shuttle trip up the slide is for people to park on our side of the Mountain, shuttle up and see the Tunnel construction, ride back and stay in Pacifica for the afternoon for lunch, overnight and/or shopping. This is why the business community is involved...to keep dollars local.
Trails haven't done anything positive for the city economically, and there's no reason to think this new one will, either.
Or at least not enough to justify a shuttle.
This whole shuttle thing really isn't that complicated, folks.
The shuttle is not being implemented solely to take people to/from Devil's Slide Park and then back home again.
To put it another way: it is not a trail shuttle.
The shuttle is being put in place to take people around Pacifica and the proposed stop at Devil's Slide Park is the southernmost point on the line.
There will be several other stops on the shuttle line.
The Devil's Slide stop is just one of the many stops.
There will also be stops at shopping centers and restaurants.
The shuttle will go up and down and all around Pacifica.
I'll bet the shuttle will even stop at our hotels and take visitors around our city -- places that aren't trails, too!

Not again. This idea has been around for a decade in one version or another, including Digre's. Well, I guess the usual Pacifica bus riders will appreciate another vehicle...and they are the people who'll be riding it. Just as soon as the Recology/Mariann photo op is over. Seniors, foul-mouthed kids, carless moms w/strollers, the dui crowd. Why not? Recology has all our ratepayer money and the city apparently has an extra $20K in some vehicle replacement fund. Not like real money, right? Actually, considering some of the whacko things this city spends money on, this is a good thing for Pacificans who need a little transport. Seriously.
Service to Fresh and Easy from around Pacifica would be fantastic! Shoppers Shuttle. I'm all for it. And it's Free? Is this a great country or what?
I don't see any mention of devils slide on that document.
