What has Pacifica done lately??
San Mateo Daily Journal/Heather Murtaugh, 6/23/12. "Family movie night"
Courthouse Square, Redwood City* |
When the sun gets low in San Mateo County, it might mean it’s time to
grab the popcorn. Free movies are available for families throughout the
county both indoors and out. Check out more recent films like the most
recent Muppets movie or introduce little ones to classics like “The
Goonies” alongside those who also love a good flick. The best thing
about outdoor movies is creating your own snack bag that can be shared
outside.
Movies have already started showing Thursday evenings in Redwood
City on Courthouse Square. The 13-week weekly showing runs through Aug.
30. Each movie starts at sundown which starts closer to 8:45 p.m. now
but as early as 8 p.m. later this summer." Read Article.

Sounds nice and small-towny, but I don't want to see this broke-down town give anything else away free.
No doubt it would require a consultant or three to tell council
we can't afford it and it's too cold here. Pass.
We go to the Music On The Square in RWC on some Fridays. It's a load of fun, it's free, and you can bring your own "refreshments."
In Palm Springs they close off the main street and have a Fog Fest like event every Thursday.
I always thought it would be great if Pacifica had something like that. I believe there is money available to subsidize free music events like that.
I think we could have it in the old sewer plant until (or if) it is developed.

The Surf Spot will hold several hundred.... Why get the city knuckleheads involved?
anon 814 Exactly. The usual suspects will stampede for the photo op and then micro-manage the thing to death while wasting a ton of money. Beach Blvd is usually cold, often smells, etc. Surf Spot might be perfect venue. Private business knows how-let them do their thing if it makes sense.
"Beach Blvd Smells" ?
What Like the OCEAN? What are you talking about? The sewer plant closed 10 years ago. There is no "smell" on Beach Blvd unless you didn't bathe.
The surf spot is great but it only holds about 250. We need more large events like the Fo Fest. We just have to get past all the negative nellies.
At the risk of furthering a playground brawl...do you really think we should all pile into that smelly, cold, damp old sewer plant for a cosy community concert? Probably not the venue musicians have in mind when they play Pacifica. Surf Spot, Sanchez, Rockaway Plaza, one of the bigger parks...lots to choose from.
