A couple TripAdvisor comments on Pacifica
For the deluded hippies who think Pacifica's scenic beauty is admired by other Bay Area residents, here are a couple of quotes from a current TripAdvisor thread on Pacifica -
"What's the draw? I drove through Pacifica on my way to Moss Beach today and Pacifica seems to lack an obvious destination - like a downtown strip. The town is spread out enough that having a car within Pacifica might even be recommended."
"If you've got a family member or something in Pacifica that's one thing. If you're just looking for a beach/ocean experience, there are other places (like Ocean Beach in San Francisco) that are just as nice and have better transit."

Jeez, I hope that visitor is coming here to see relatives or friends. I hate to think of the major disappointment in store for any real tourist. We got nothin'.
Pacifica should encourage residents to write positive reviews on Trip Advisor and other sites like they did with that Rand Mcnally best places contest last year. Marketing 101 "always take advantage of free advertising"
Go up there and give tips on places to go/see/eat etc..
The visitor's comment is accurate.
Pacifica doesn't have any downtown and never will because of geography. The town was formed by a public vote in order to prevent San Bruno from annexing part of the land for a garbage dump in 1957.
There was no town from which the usual kind of population growth could occur. Geography can be unforgiving.
"San Bruno from annexing part of the land for a garbage dump.." Lionel Emde 8:36 am.
Interesting Lionel, this is another story that is not found on wikipedia, and is not periodically retold in the "established" local newspaper. Where would the garbage dump have been?
Of course, the geographical downtown for Pacifica would probably be Mori Point. That land sold for cheap through the Pacifica Land Trust to the GGNRA in the early 2000s. Some citizens who became city council members worked to assure that open space sale happened.
I think geography is less forgiving than the 30 year anti-growth agenda systematically planned and delivered to this city.
Pacifica doesn't need a downtown. It needs a unique reason to attract people - like a Premium Outlet Mall in the quarry.
I say a huge ferris wheel in Rockaway Steve.
Santorini, Mykonos, Machu Picchu, Amsterdam, Venice...............
our civilization is blessed that unforgiving geography didn't stop these great cities and thousands more like them.
I'd go for a ferris wheel, Hutch. We could probably squeeze in a roller coaster, too. Just so there's something.
Disneyworld, held up by skyhooks
Isn't that what T. Clifford proposed in the last election??
