OMG overnight rain problem, San Francisco

That's not an oil spill, that's a hole
Business Insider/Lisa Eadicicco, 12/3/14. "Check out the massive sinkhole tearing apart a street in San Francisco."

"A massive 30-by-20 foot sinkhole tore apart a street in the Bay Area of San Francisco on Wednesday, according to a CBS local San Francisco affiliate.  The sinkhole, caused by heavy overnight rain, sits at the intersection of Lake Street and Sixth Avenue.

Jean Walsh, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, told CBS that sand had eroded around an underground water main pipe at the intersection. As a result, the pipe collapsed, causing rocks and sand to erode.  This isn't a first-time experience for Lake Street residents — in May 2013, an enormous 22-foot sinkhole opened up on Lake Street and 2nd Ave." Read more, namely tweets."

Note:  photograph from  KCRA 3.com/Weather alerts, 12/3/14.  "Large sinkhole opens up in San Francisco neighborhood. Water main break, gas leak also reported."

Beach Blvd. is one big sinkhole waiting to happen. Plus all the sewage from North Pacifica travels under Beach Blvd. Want to talk about a huge poop fest.

Nick's parking lot is another sinkhole waiting to happen.

Remember this can be the El Nino winter that sinks the city of Pacifica into bankruptcy.

This morning channel 4 news, big tree down on Linda Mar Blvd, wiped-out a traveling car, driver okay.

1233, hopefully those nightmare events will not occur, and funding to mitigate or fix would come from elsewhere. But you're right the city has to do something about existing on the ongoing edge of bankruptcy, (however, as we all know that is the ultimate NIMBY vision).

Fear not, people. We are not alone. San Francisco is experiencing exactly the same problems. Trees down because the regular maintenance schedule has been stretched out, sinkholes triggered by aging sewer pipes. Yeah, San Francisco, tourist mecca and techie economic engine is also suffering the effects of budget cuts. Reports of much of the same nationwide. I know you'll draw your own conclusions.
