" Pacificans elected Karen Ervin, Mary Ann Nihart and Mike O'Neill to the City Council on Tuesday night.

For the two-year term, O'Neill held a substantial lead from the outset and ended up with 3,878 votes, or 34.86 percent of the total cast. He was followed by Victor Spano with 3,016 votes, or 27.11 percent, and Richard Campbell with 2,954 votes, or 26.56 percent. Gary Mondfrans, who had barely campaigned due to illness, got 1,275 votes, or 11.46 percent.

For the four-year term, Ervin collected 7,663 votes, or 38.86 percent, Mary Ann Nihart followed with 6,967 votes, or 35.33 percent, Susan Vellone trailed with 5,091 votes, or 25.82 percent.

....  "San Mateo County Measure A also passed, with 64 percent of the voters saying yes to a half-cent sales tax increase for 10 years. Measure B, which called for electing county supervisors by district instead of countywide, passed with a 58 percent majority. Measure C, which would have made the county controller an appointed instead of elected position, went down with 59 percent of voters opposed.

Jackie Speier and Anna Eshoo were re-elected to Congress; Mark Leno and Jerry Hill won another term in the state Senate; Phil Ting, Kevin Mullin and Rich Gordon won Assembly seats; and Warren Slocum edged out Shelly Masur for a seat on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors."   Read article.
