I guess we have to look over on Pacifica Index to see what happened at the council meeting?

Kathy Meeh said...

Here's the link to Pacifica Index, Anon 6:16 AM.

Chris Fogel has done a commendable job of tracking, indexing and archiving Pacifica government information, including meetings, agendas, issues, services, election concerns, police logs, litigation. This is a major commitment for the benefit and interest of concerned citizens.

Anon 6:16 AM, if you viewed Pacifica City Council last night, you might have some comments to share with us. Then again..

Pacifica Index said...

Sorry for the delay -- coverage of last night's Council Meeting just went online.

I hope you find it useful.

no update on Oral Communications? That was the best part. Council was extremely rude to Therese Dyer.

Anonymous said...

How so?

Anonymous said...

they ignorned her, did not even look at her or pay attention. Roger Medler called them out for it. and Jaquith openly mocked her with laughter. really, this is the most rude and disgusting council.

Anonymous said...

and I liked Bernie Siffry calling Stephen Johnson "obnoxious" for complaining about the dog park.

Anonymous said...

Council members' reactions are out of context unless you know what Therese Dyer was saying. Usually when she speaks, she's got most of the information wrong and she's off in the ozone somewhere. What did she say that made Jaquith laugh?

Kathy Meeh said...

Therese Dyer said city council should be attending annual ethics classes, she cited civic code. She may have a clue about that, since she was on the civil grand jury for 1 year, until 7/1/12.

Therese Dyer said past councilmember Vreeland missed 28 city council meetings, at a city cost of $21,000. She thinks Vreeland should pay back that money. (That's also ethics, but may not be not a legal requirement). This year city council passed a more stringent absentee requirement for their members.

I think Roger Medler is correct (also ethics), city councilmembers have an obligation to listen respectfully to citizens they represent, including in this city.

Len and Marianne should leave their
Iphones in the back room and pay a little more attention to the citizens speaking at Council. Very rude and disrespectful!

todd bray said...

If Len and Mary Ann are using council time to communicate with others through their various devices you should ask to see the text messages/emails and or phone numbers they are calling or that are calling. texting or emailing them. A simple PRA request should get you that info. At the very least Len and Mary Ann might stop being rude.

Anonymous said...

Jaquath doesn't care, she's outta here in a couple of months. She should have never been appointed to take Vreelands place. It was a slap in the face to appoint an X council person who was successfully removed from office by a legal recall. Well Mary Ann and Len got what they asked for. Ginny turned around and stabbed them in the back in the end.

I hit the mute button whenever Dyer or Schlesinger speak. I no longer care what they have to say because I just don't like the way they say it. Wonder if the people who encourage them actually agree on the issues or just like sick entertainment? Maybe a little of both.

Anonymous said...

A rude and disrespectful council, oh my! Let's hear those apologies and excuses people! No, you can't hire a consultant to help you make them. You're going to have to wing it.

Anonymous said...

@254 Fantasy, pure fantasy.

Anonymous said...

Dyer and Schlesinger are the most unlikeable people in this city. They both wore out their welcome years ago, and anyone who encourages them is making it harder for our city to move forward.

^ Well spoken Pete 5:51

People like Therese help keep the city honest. At least she puts her money where her mouth is and get's involved. I think we can partially thank her for Rich Campbell being defeated by educating many Pacificans face to face during the recall attempt. I was out there and it was amazing how many people weren't aware we are in a budget crisis which is somewhat due to radical environmentalists like Campbell.

So until you have the balls to use your real name stfu.

Anonymous said...

@551 They are both loons. Some people string them along and provide encouragement. Nice.

Anonymous said...

Marianne has dinner over at Tod's house once in awhile! Maybe that's where he gets some of the info he nags about.

Kathy Meeh said...

This city has been in serious economic/governance denial for at least 12 years. As Hutch says Therese puts her name to her voice, as does Tod, unlike those of you who snipe others under anonymous cover. Yet you have no message and they do.

Got to ask yourself while looking in the mirror Anonymous cowards who attack others, who are the "loons"? You can't put your name to what you say. And when you also don't listen @4:32 PM, of course you can't hear.

If I heard correctly, Therese volunteered herself as a candidate for the Mosquito / Vector trustee opening due to John Curtis resignation. She mentioned she had some experience in this area, but what is important to me, is that she's interested. I hope she formally applies and that other residents who are willing to attend the meetings and can serve in this capacity can step up and represent Pacifica on this board.

During the Oct. 13 City Council meeting, Pete DeJarnatt was the agreed-upon nominee and will be appointed per Agenda Item 6 of the Consent Calendar of the Nov. 26 City Council meeting.

Emily Post said...

Tod and Therese act like unhinged and almost incoherent children, and then have the gall to complain about how people react to their petulance.

Besides not teaching them manners, their parents must not have taught them that they reap what they sow.

Anonymous said...

Well at least the Index was paying attention. And the appointment goes straight to the consent agenda for quick and near silent approval. What a nice parting gift from council. Pete and the skeeters. There's got to be a stipend of some sort. What else goes with the job? Just a little something to top off that pension he'll be collecting from us for all those years on council. And so it goes in Pacifica where things never really change.

Kathy Meeh said...

"Tod and Therese act like unhinged.." Emily Post, 10:05 AM

After 30 years of sugar coated "nothing for Pacifica", many of us understand the frustration Therese and Tod express. Playing "nice" and speaking "hinged" has avoided addressing reality in Pacifica. So bully for Therese and Tod, Ms. Post, but I though you died years ago.

Anonymous said...

@1005 Exactly! People who support those two and their antics are probably the same sort who excuse the public bad behavior of their monstrous kids/grandkids/dogs by saying oh, aren't they cute.

Anonymous said...

The SMC Mosquito Abatement district is currently advertising the Pacifica board member vacancy on their website. One board meeting per month (10 per year). The loot is $100 per month paid in lieu of expenses. Snacks and refreshments are served at the meetings. Reach out to your fav councilmember before the next council meeting to get Pete's appointment removed from the consent calendar so other applications can also be considered. No experience in public health or science is required for the board.

Anonymous said...

Glorifying those embarassing fools as crusaders for good government is absurd. They taint the cause.

Anonymous said...

I'd say dejarnert, digress and Vreeland behaved much worse

Kathy Meeh said...

" People who support those two and their antics..bla, bla" (referring to Therese and Tod), Anonymous 11:01 AM

Anonymous, what you said, the extended logic, is nuts. Ditto your 10:05 AM twin. There is another possible explanation, without the imagined suppositions: its called courage, which follows from researched conviction. But a weak anonymous person might not understand that.

Which is more polite, 1) talking against another person under anonymous name, or 2) delivering the message with fire? As Anonymous, 11/16 10:20 PM, said "life goes on".

John Doe said...

Calling those two "courageous" is like calling the tea party wing nuts you drag here with your political garbage "courageous", Kathy.

Acting like a child in public is not courage, and saying it is insults people who show true courage.

Kathy Meeh said...

"..tea party wing nuts you drag here..", John Doe, 11:56 AM

Utter nonsense, "John Doe", and another anonymous name from you of no courage.

BTW conservative people exist, some are Pacificans who post comments here. You insult them. There is no "true courage" (your words) in doing that. And meantime, you've offered no comment of value.

PS: Where do you think conservative people who live in Pacifica would post blog comments? Pacifica Riptide??? Get real.

Anonymous said...

Courage? Those two aren't facing danger of any sort. They're pursuing attention and it's become an addiction for them. I think there's a personal vendetta of some sort that fuels it all or some unrelated loss that triggered it. There's nothing courageous about it. It's an obsession, an illness, and it can become worse.

Anonymous said...

A couple of capering fools with a bit of the old crazy. Dyer and Schlesinger are perfect mascots for Pathetica.

Kathy Meeh said...

"Courage? Those two aren't facing danger of any sort." Anonymous 12:55 PM.

Try it some time! Try being vocal at city council, writing letters-to-the-editor, educating people by running for office, promoting a city measure (example term limits), initiating a recall effort, speaking against bad city polity, taking the city or its affiliate to the County DA, or to court. (These efforts require personal time, and may require personal expense).

That takes courage, lots of courage. Meantime, you are having problems putting your own name to your criticism of these and other activists. You hide, they don't. But we all live here, deal with it.

Anonymous said...

FYI Kathy, quite a few people on here, anon and named, do or have done many/all of the things from your list. It has nothing to do with courage. It's merely being a good citizen. Polite, civil, respectful discourse with those around you with whom you disagree is also part of being a good citizen. And a little respect for the 'office' if not the officeholder is always appropriate. Tod and Therese apparently have read the book on civic participation but they don't understand the message.
Their behavior is not beneficial and they are an embarassment to this city. I know ideas without names bother you. You'll have to forgive me.

Anonymous said...

they are an embarrassment to the city of Pacifica! The only people more embarrassing are the city council, city staff, planning commission, local TV, chamber of commerce, realtors, the sustainable development bozos, and the HWY1 obstructionists.

other than those people, Tod and Therese are the worst!

Steve Sinai said...

When you stand at the podium every council session and complain simply to complain, people stop listening.

Hutch said...

@ Anon 401 Opinions are like a$$holes...

Our men and women (including Therese Dyer) have fought for the right of Americans to freely voice their opinions.

Thank God we live in a country where free speech is not lost just because some people don't agree with what you say or how you say it

Anonymous said...

at least they show up. at least they show up.

Anonymous said...

Look at the level of conversation those two buffoons (TS and TD)inspire. Downward spiral. When there's no good defense the flag gets waved and the profanity starts--within the limits of a family-values blog, of course. Such passion!

Anonymous said...

@552 that's the problem!

Anonymous said...

@449 another happy pacifican? like your list but i'd still place Tod and Terese well up in the pack. well up, but behind the entire council and senior staff and the planning dept/comm because after giving that some thought i see there is no comparison in the amount of damage done. they're really just a couple of local oddballs.

Ernesto Gomez said...

Interesting choice to complain about people offering their opinion, and then offering your opinion, Hutch.

Bridget Higgins said...

"The only people more embarrassing are the city council, city staff, planning commission, local TV, chamber of commerce, realtors, the sustainable development bozos, and the HWY1 obstructionists."

The primary difference is that all those people can disagree without being disagreeable. The problem with Tod and Therese and Kathy and many others on this blog and most on Riptide and everyone who watches Fox News and many who watch MSNBC (etc, etc) is that they can't accept the fact that some people disagree with them for what that person considers very valid reasons. Instead of accepting that there are completely justifiable differences of opinion, they have to demonize them, and that kind of childish behavior is destroying our country.

Kathy Meeh said...

"..justifiable differences of opinion.." Bridget Higgins 8:35 PM

Well, last time I checked Tod and Therese have the right as citizens to attend city council meetings, put in their card and speak for 3 minutes. That's my position.

Beyond that, anonymous people scapegoating people with names does not appeal to me.

Bridget Higgins said...

My name is Bridget Higgins.

Kathy Meeh said...

^^^ 11/17, 1:34 PM, reply line 2 "bad city policy".

Anonymous, 11/17, 4:01 PM, I find your commentary very messed-up for a variety of reasons. And without a named person attached its impossible to know your intent.

Then there is Bridget Higgins, at 9:53 PM and 8:35 PM, who insists on being a "name". Okay, Bridget you're a name, but the internet does not confirm you as a person living in Pacifica. Facts are good, Bridget. From there we might have a reasonable conversation.

Anonymous said...

I love Bridget Higgins

Anonymous said...

isntead of trashing Tod and Therese. and trashing the people who trash them. and checking IDs at the door like a bouncer . . .

why don't we encourage more people to attend council meetings and set an example on how to speak?

Bridget Higgins said...

"without a named person attached its impossible to know your intent."

That makes even less sense than usual. Why is that?

Kathy Meeh said...

"That makes even less sense than usual." Anonymous Bridget 9:04AM

Well, you are an artificial anonymous fictional character playing games at the expense of others. Does that make sense?

Further, you are a total waste of time with regard to any form of reasonable conversation. Does that make even more sense?

Maybe ask Jim Alex how you might improve. Its almost like looking at yourself in the mirror. And when you can contribute to the conversation, that will be better. Right now F=fail. Got it?

Bridget Higgins said...

That kind of reasoning and your tendency to instantly demonize those with whom you disagree is why you, Tod, and Therese are the local Pacifican version of the tea party. Just like what's happening nationally, unless people show a capacity to have an open discussion and make hard compromises, Pacifica will go over it's own fiscal cliff.

For instance, I'm curious where Fix Pacifica readers stand on raising taxes now. Many said that they would vote for some kind of increase in revenue if we removed some of the NIMBYs on the council. It's painful, but I think basic arithmetic says it's something we need to do.

Kathy Meeh said...

Fictional Bridget, 12:08 PM, here's your more recent opportunity to talk about a new tax for Pacifica, "X".

So you're "demonized" by me for being a skunk, while you mischaracterize my comments, and attempt to "demonize" others?

Referring to comments on this blog, you said, "Many said that they would vote for some kind of increase in revenue if we removed some of the NIMBYs on the council." Well, it depends doesn't it? And many did not say. So around the circle we go (there are no dots to connect on that one either).

Anonymous said...

Demons? That's it! Contrary to posters who suggest Pacifica needs an enema, this town actually suffers from a plague of demons. Demonic possession. That explains everything and everyone. We need an Exorcism!

Anonymous said...

Absolute power corrupts absolutely....
Look what's happening to our Mayor Pro-tem. He learned from the best! And she learned from Jimmy V. Stop the cycle of abuse!!!! We need a cohesive/mindful group that can work together and not for the benefit of their own personal politics.

Anonymous said...

@712 yup, that's what we need, but what we've got is an extremely ambitious, skilled manipulator who learned from the master and a guy who comes up short. It'll be interesting to see how the whole group plays together...the warmly welcomed rumored puppet, the not-so-warmly welcomed independent and the relic from greener days.
