A new e-technology location for San Mateo County Libraries

available for BART riders in Millbrae as of May 5th.

From  San Mateo County Times, 5/7/11.  Book lovers who happen to be BART riders can now take advantage of a new type of vending machine, one that provides food for thought to anyone with a Peninsula Library System card. The automated book-lending kiosk, which contains 500 volumes of mostly contemporary fiction and nonfiction, was unveiled at the Millbrae BART station on Thursday morning. "It's great-looking," said Linda Crowe, executive director of the Peninsula Library System. "It's the second one of its kind in the U.S." A different brand of book-vending device resides at the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station and gave Peninsula Library System officials the initial idea.

The "Free2Read & Ride" machine is one of many ways local libraries are trying to stay current with today's media consumers. Last month, the San Mateo County Library's website won a Webby Award for its design and usability. The site is dubbed the 13th library branch in the county, though it doesn't have a physical presence.  For more, view the full Article.
