Puerto 27 opens in Pacifica, courtesy of Jose Calvo-Perez

Puerto 27 opened over the weekend in the lazy coastal hamlet of Pacifica. It’s the new — and at 140 seats and two levels, big — Peruvian joint from Jose Calvo-Perez of Fresca and more recently, Pasion in the Sunset.

Like his prior restaurants, Puerto 27 is centered around a Peruvian small plates menu, designed to be shared family-style. Most dishes fall in the $10-$18 range; on the opening menu are items like Peruvian-style fried rice with sea urchin sauce, pork nelly with Andean style potato stew, and plenty of ceviches from a dedicated ceviche raw bar. Yes, there are churros for dessert.

The bar has a full liquor license and specializes in pisco. Running the bar program is Enrique Sanchez, who earned Chronicle Bar Star accolades for his pisco work while at La Mar in 2010.

Could the regular people who read and participate in Fix Pacifica ever get together "IRL" and maybe we could set a date / time to go check it out and support this new Pacifica venture and have something to base some "word of mouth" on? Has anyone been there to try Puerto 27?

Pacifica, residents don't really eat out much, so this restaurant will depend on "out of town" people to make it work. The food is a bit advanced for Pacifican.

Plus so far the Yelp reviews are mixed. Give it some time to straighten out the problems.

Huh? Pacifican's turn out in large numbers to local restaurants. Also, tickets to "A Taste of Pacifica" sell out quickly every year. Pacificans LOVE to dine out!

"The food is a bit advanced for Pacifican."

I'm sorry that you feel that Pacificans are an unsophisticated lot, but let me assure you, you've got it wrong. As an example, see the success of equivalent "exotic" fare at The Surf Spot as well as Pacifica's existing Peruvian restaurant "El Toro Loco" where you'll have to wait in lines for a table most evenings.

"Plus so far the Yelp reviews are mixed."

?! You didn't even look at the Yelp reviews, did you? Six of the seven reviews are for a full 5-stars.

I drove by last night, and the parking lot was as full as I'd ever seen it.

My favorite Peruvian delicacy is cuy.

I'm a Pacifican gourmand and I eat out a lot: Mc Donald's; Hawaiian BBQ; both yummy! Can't beat those $ signs.

My wife and I have invited some dear friends from S.F. to join us at the Puerto this weekend to try it out.

If you're implying that business is poor there, you're mistaken.

I ate at Surf Spot tonight. I would guess there were 150 people there with a large crowd in the back and lots of kids running around the volleyball court area.

It remains--as always--a very busy, a very vibrant, and very enjoyable location.

Surf Spot is busy all the time. Packed with Pacifica residents drinking $12 hurricanes.

Love the Surf Spot. Had a glorious dinner there tonight with the neighbors instead of barbecuing. Partners sell businesses for all kinds of reasons. If you want out and you want your investment back, there's no better time to sell than when business is good.

"Surf Spot for sale?" Pretty normal for some restaurant people to establish a brand new restaurant where none existed before, get it started, then sell at a profit and move on to replicate again and again.

Think that one of the partners used to be at 231 Ellsworth in San Mateo. Probably knows at least one guy who does just that: creates a restaurant in a vacant commercial space, opens it, sells it right away, moves down the street and creates another restaurant. Heard that one guy made a lot of money over the years.

pretty easy to hear it's for sale and jump to the obvious and wrong conclusion
