Pacifica Mayor's "State of the City" address, Saturday, September 15, 2012

Pacifica Tribune/Barbara Arietta, Correspondent, 9/4/12. "Mayor Pete DeJarnatt to give 'State of the City" address before Democrats."

"On Saturday, Sept. 15, Pacifica Mayor Peter DeJarnatt will deliver a "State of the City" Address at the monthly breakfast meeting of the Pacifica-Daly City Democrats. The early morning speech will be given in the rear Banquet Room of the Sharp Park Golf Course Restaurant, Sharp Park Blvd and Highway 1, in Pacifica.
Mayor Pete DeJarnatt

DeJarnatt, in his 16th year of being a member of the Pacifica City Council and its current Mayor, will be giving a "State of the City" Address for his final time. Earlier this year, De Jarnatt announced that he would retire after the November 2012 election.

In his longterm tenure on the Pacifica City Council, DeJarnatt has always professed to be a strong proponent of protecting the environment and supporting sustainable growth. His record reflects that he upheld the Hillside Preservation Guidelines, approved transfer of Cattle Hill to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, supported the inclusion of Mori Point and the San Pedro Headlands into the GGNRA, increased recreational tourism by expanding hiking and biking trails and participated in making major improvements to Linda Mar Beach, creating new wetlands in the San Pedro Creek Flood Control Project.

In previous interviews, DeJarnatt has also spoken of his dedication and concern for the Pacifica community's quality of life. His participation and leadership on the Pacifica City Council has seen the approval of the successful Farmer's Market in Rockaway, the building of the  oceanside Skateboard park for the recreation of young people, the supporting of the Sanchez Art Center for local cultural opportunities, the construction of the new police station and the saving of the senior housing at the Ocean View Apartments.

However, as is the case in many cities in this country, successfully surviving these difficult economic times, by making the hard decisions that must be made, has become a real challenge for both a city's council and its citizens. Thus, the Pacifica-Daly City Democrats Club has asked the outgoing Pacifica Mayor, on the eve of a new city council restructuring, to give an up-to-the-minute report on the current State of the City of Pacifica.

All citizens are welcome and encouraged to attend. It is neither necessary to be a Democrat, nor a member of the club to attend the meeting. A full breakfast is available for $12; continental breakfast for $6; coffee only for $3. No purchase is necessary. Doors open at 9 a.m. Seating is between 9 a.m, and 9:30 a.m.. The meeting runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For any questions or to RSVP, please call 415-246-0775 or email barietta@hotmail.com."
