Bell, CA former police chief wants to double his pension

Pacifica's pension problems are very small by comparison with Bell, CA

Smarter than you think
Silicon Valley Mercury News/Associated Press, 9/12/12. "Former Bell chief testifies, seeking big pension."  "Fomer Bell Police Chief Randy Adams testified before a state pension panel as he seeks to increase his pension to more than a half-million dollars for his stint as top cop in the scandal-plagued city—but gave few answers while he was on the stand.

The Los Angeles Times reports ( http://lat.ms/NFMRIn) Adams invoked his Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate himself 20 times while he was on the witness stand Thursday.

Adams is challenging a California Public Employees' Retirement System decision not to include his year as chief in Bell in the calculations for his pension.  If he wins his claim, he'll get $510,000 and become the second-highest-paid public pensioner in the state.Adams is not among the eight former city leaders facing criminal public corruption charges."

Is it too late to file criminal charges for corruption against him?

Though our Police here do not get $500K I think $170K is way too much for a little beach town. Cops have a way of pressuring council to get what they want. Better to outsource and not have to try and control their budget.

Well 254 somebody will have to control it but I agree the county is much better qualified to run that show. Local control is a myth we've been fed in Pacifica by senior PD management eager to hold on to their fabulous deals and our yutz local politicians playing games in an election year. The regular officers know the county is a much better career move for them. The money we'd save could make such a difference for this town.
