Please is door number two a two week vacation in Guantanamo Bay?

Please let door number 3 be listen to the rogue realtors whine!

Anonymous said...

You got it Pancho!

Anonymous said...

Yep, we prefer the Realtors.

Anonymous said...

Please, anything but the candidates and their recycled wish lists. What drivel!

Anonymous said...

Monfrans was a no show because he was "sick"

Can you say Vreeland?

And how about Vellone criticising Pacificans for not showing up? Nice.

Anonymous said...

Oh come on. The people running for council will make campaign promises and tell us what they would do, and how they would run the town. Its nothing but bs and hype.

Not as if they are promising a chicken in every pot and a model A Ford in every driveway.

This council will go down in history as the council who had to file Chapter 9 Bankruptcy and sink the sinking ship of Pacifica?

Why anyone would want to be on this council, more then any other council in the history of the city is beyond me.

But they all claim to know how to fix the tow. Till the hippies and nobees tell them what to do.

Anonymous said...

Campbell and Vellone seem to have no clue. They're against Highway 1 widening, FOR more sales tax, and Campbell thinks he can dictate what kinds of businesses come into Palmetto. He will be another contipation to progress like Vreeland, DeJarnett and Digre.

Anonymous said...

Vellone is against highway 1 widening???? I doubt that!!!!

Vellone is against highway 1 widening???? I doubt that!!!!

At the Chamber of Commerce Candidates Forum, Vellone stated that she supported the widening.

See HERE for coverage.

nyuk nyuk said...

if you liked Vreeland, you'll love Campbell.

Anonymous said...

None of the candidates came out in favor of the highway widening, but they all were in favor of doing something about the problem.

Vellone's comment about not enough people showing up was a slap in the face of the 30 plus citizens who were there, more than most council meetings.

Anonymous said...

What did Vellone say about people not showing up and in what context?

Anonymous said...

Campbell came off as a friend of the NIMBY. Anti growth and anti business unless they are the types of businesses HE wants here.

Anonymous said...

why should I show up when I can watch it on teevee?

nyuk nyuk said...

ataaren232217Duh. Campbell is a friend of NIMBY.
Sheez...wake up.

Anonymous said...

Vellone is another tax and spender being she is for the sales tax increase.

Campbell is Vreeland 2.0. Arrogant, bully, pompous ass. Another person who lives off the tax payers.

Say no to both of these.

Oh and Vellone can't even balance her own checkbook let alone the city's!

Anonymous said...

Poor Vellone. She's running against the Sistahs and the sniping has begun. Now, girls, I know you don't have much to say in this dog of an election but hair, weight and boyfriends are off limits.

Anonymous said...

why even watch it on tv? reruns of RHONJ are on. turn off the sound and imagine they're our council. very funny.

Anonymous said...

one thing you can always count on. a candidate has never been born that isn't in favor of "fixing things and working on our problems". together. given our odd little mix, probably covertly.

Larry said...

Well, I for one, enjoyed the forum. Less "Look at me I'm Sandra Dee" and more talk about our fiscal issues in this town. Campbell's suggestion that we have a drop off circle at the police station is tin-foil-hat-like. Doesn't that create a new on ramp at the police station? And who is going to walk K-3 or K-4 down to the school. Rainy days! Perfect Friends of Pacifica remedy. Something we can study for another 25 years. Brilliant!

Anonymous said...

I'm still processing Campbell's suggestion that the PSD spend their $600K food budget in Pacifica. And now a drop-off circle at the police station? Time to drop-off Campbell and his whacky ideas.

Anonymous said...

Sandra Dee? Blast from the ancient past, oldster!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, it's so weird when that bunch channels Sandra Dee. Especially Campbell Spano and Big Mike.

Anonymous said...

Look at the video. Vellone thanked the participating audience for attending and wished more would participate in the process. So why is the "slate" working so hard to discredit her?

Anonymous said...

Vellone can't balance her checkbook??

Where did she get that awesome ride she's driving?

Oh yah, she won the lotto! Couldn't be all that hard work.
Really?

Kathy Meeh said...

I'm definitely voting for Susan Vellone. She is solid, practical, thinks about improvements for this city, organizations, her own business, and the community. She has exhibited leadership in owning and running a business for many years. At the same time she has involved herself (at leadership level) in civic organizations and charities.

In the first Chamber of Commerce forum 9/21/12, Susan was the only city council candidate who was clear that she fully supports highway 1 widening at the Calera Parkway bottleneck. This proposed 1.3 mile highway widening is based upon many years of research by CalTrans professionals. After 20 years of discussion about "alternatives", and no action, its time to move forward.

Anonymous said...

I saw most of the candidates support highway 1 widening except Campbell. Mary Ann already put her money where her mouth is and voted for it. Spano and Oneill said they are for it too but of course they have some input. To blindly support any project is not in our best interest.

Sorry Kathy but Vellone came off as arrogant when she made the comment about being disappointed in Pacificans for not showing up to this meeting. The last kind of personality we need on council now is a smug arrogant idealog.

For me it is between Nihart, Oneill, Spano or Irvin

Hutch said...

I like Mike O'Neill's idea for putting more commercial on Beach Blvd. Change zoning and allow little stores, restaurants etc.

Kathy Meeh said...

"I saw most of the candidates support highway 1 widening except Campbell." Anonymous 8:15 AM

What the other candidates talked about was widening the highway banks so that emergency vehicles could pass through traffic. Only Susan Vellone clearly stated that she supported the highway widening project. Take another look at the candidate forum clip. And yes on city council Mary Ann Nihart did support highway 1 widening, as did ALL other actual city councilmembers, except Sue Digre.

Contrary to your opinion, my opinion is that Susan Vellone is exactly the kind of forward thinking, action candidate we do need on city council.

Another thing (probably just part of my arrogance), I have a problem with anonymous people not owning their comments, such as the kind of single person criticism comment you made at 8:15 AM. And I think your comment is in itself arrogant. Don't you?

PJ said...

A successful business person is not someone who used their house as an ATM for 10 yrs? Would this candidate be considered a viable option for helping To balance the city's budget?

Anonymous said...

Who was that PJ?

And Kathy, I believe Sue Digre AND Pete voted against or abstained from voting on Highway 1 widening.

Sorry but I agree with anon 8:15. Vellone was arrogant in chastising citizens for not showing up to her meeting.

Sure we should show up. But many of us work out of Pacifica (unlike her) and have busy lives. There's nothing wrong with not showing up We don't care any less. The nerve of her.

Anonymous said...

Gee, who we talking about with the atm crack? More than one candidate claims to be a self-employed business person. More than one owns a home. But apparently only one lacks integrity and a sense of fair play and their supporters clearly know anything goes. That's the one we have to worry about.

Anonymous said...

@9/25 1032 "Why is the slate working so hard to discredit her (Vellone)?" Because anon the slate knows what's best for the silly public and has it all planned and Susan Vellone might not march along in step. In fact, I'd be surprised if she followed anyone blindly. She's not a puppet and she's certainly no one's mini-me. She won't sink quite as easily as the rest into the political slime that traps most of them once in office or sometimes even before. And how refreshing is that! Reason enough right there to vote for the woman! She'll do a fine job for Pacifica.

Anonymous said...

@1112 go check the record. Sue abstained, Pete voted for. Details. Are there no standards at all even for anon slurs? Apparently not.

Anonymous said...

Slates are nasty bad. Who can forget the Vreeland Lancelle slate that damaged Pacifica for a decade? No slates. No Nanny Nihart and her handpicked drones Ervin and Spano. No.
Vote O'Neill, Vellone and flip a coin for the third. At least try to start clean.

Hutch said...

That's part right Anon 1208. Pete voted to move forward on the widening but he voted no on any of the proposed projects.

"The motion passed with 3 yes votes (Mary Ann, Len, Ginny), 1 no vote (Pete, who didn't want to specify a preference), and one abstention (Sue)."

Anonymous said...

I just spoke with Mary Ann and she showed no preference for any other candidate. And so what if she did? Mary Ann is pro business and growth. Shouldn't we give her people she can work with?

Kathy Meeh said...

PJ 10:21 AM, I think your repeated comment that Vellone uses her house as an ATM, if true is a non issue. But, your comment raises questions about YOU. If true, how is it that you know such personal information, why would you seek such discovery, and if you're involved in lending are you breaching a client fiduciary trust?

Anonymous 11:12 AM, isn't the case that you protest too much against Susan Vellone? And since you are anonymous, it could be the case that the whole series of such comments may be coming from you. In your own words, "the nerve" of you.

Its interesting, that you're so "busy" and "working" (your words), that at 11:12 AM, and possibly all those other times, you can take time under an anonymous name to generate such a trash campaign. Again, this speaks more about YOU, not the candidate Susan Vellone.

When Pete DeJarnatt was previously Mayor, representing the City, he set in motion the action from the County Supervisors (in conjunction with SMCTA) to advance the Calera Parkway 1.3 mile highway 1 widening we see today.

Anon 12:08 PM is likely correct about the ultimate city council vote in favor of the highway landscape design, 4 for, 1 abstain. (I have not check the record). My recall from that evening was that DeJarnatt intended to abstain, and Sue intended to vote no. The vote was not binding, but a request from the TA/CalTrans committee working on the proposed project. "Landscaped or medium only highway divider" was the question. DeJarnatt commented that he thought the question of landscape vs medium design was premature. Digre was and is against highway widening (just as she is against most progress for this city).

Anonymous said...

@100 No, I don't think we need to decide who's best for Pacifica based on Nihart's insecurities and personal problems with some people. You really think she's stupid enough to admit those to you? She needs to get over herself. Big disappointment to many voters. All hat and no cattle.

Anonymous said...

Somebody has a hit squad out against Vellone. Who benefits from that? Certainly not this town but this town isn't their first priority. Did I say hit squad? More likely it's all from one overzealous nutjob.

Anonymous said...

Pete voted for it and has been for it. Sue refused to vote and has been against it. It's all public record. Split hairs any way you want but Pete didn't vote no.

Anonymous said...

Mary Ann has been the hardest working council member we've had in 10 years. She alone has been on committees and boards all over the county working to get Pacifica it's fair share of the pie. This has taken her years to build credibility with other cities in the county so we are taken seriously. Other city councils who BTW have never heard of Pete, Sue or Jim because they never did anything outside of Pacifica. You aren't too informed if you think Mary Ann has no cattle dude.

But she'll get re-elected easily so whatever.

Anonymous said...

Kathy brings up an interesting point about insider info and breach of trust re the attacks on Vellone. Unlike the attacker, I don't pretend to know anything about the woman's finances, but I can tell you that growing a successful business like hers can require infusions of cash. Smart business people like Susan would have no problem leveraging their assets to improve their business. Wouldn't it be terrific, and a vast improvement, to have someone like that on Council? Someone who has the knowledge, drive and strength of character to just get it done! I voted for Susan last time and I'm voting for her again.

Hutch said...

It's all on the record.

"The motion passed with 3 yes votes (Mary Ann, Len, Ginny), 1 no vote (Pete, who didn't want to specify a preference), and one abstention (Sue)."

Anonymous said...

hey anon100 yeah yeah Maryann says she's pro-business and pro-growth but Vellone is actually IN business. So what's the problem?

nyuk nyuk said...

Mini-me Campbell is trying to recover Vreeland's fumble.
Go Ricky! Go Ricky!

Anonymous said...

wrong way ricky wrong way

Anonymous said...

really anon 215? she tell you that? yes yes i know that's what she says but 4 years later we're still the county joke. takes more than a need for attention and a lot of diligent butt kissing to change a city. time to send in Vellone and O'Neill.

Anonymous said...

Deeds of trust are public records. No breach here. Go check your county recorder.

Anonymous said...

no ricky not that way, the other way, go man go, oh and take the ball with you

Anonymous said...

Widening the highway so people bypass our town is considered progress? Oh that is right pavement equals progress in this country.

Anonymous said...

@215 Sounds like love. Or is it just infatuation? Incumbents usually have an edge. Too bad.

Anonymous said...

So Anon 2:30 PM, you know that Mary Ann also built a very successful million dollar corporation of which she is now the largest share holder. The international rights were sold to Germany and Australia. Check it out, it is all online. So who is really IN business? I think that trumps a hair salon built on credit. Don't you? Mary Ann is the real deal. She likes smart discussion and hates yes people or do none of you recall that the same thing was said about her with Vreeland and we all know how that turned out.
I have also not heard her express a clear preference for a specific candidate and I asked her directly who she wanted. In fact, on tape she appreciateed and thanked all the candidates.
Maybe it is vellone herself stirring up the "slate" accusations since it will give her an excuse when she does not win.

Anonymous said...

Mary Ann has a very successful career. We are lucky she is willing to serve at all. She certainly doesn't need all this silly back biting or the headache. Nihart is easily the smartest candidate in this race and the most qualified. She's got my vote.

Anonymous said...

And what candidates are going to be backed by the Chamber of Commerce? Six weeks to go they need to get in gear.

Anonymous said...

anon 304, Nihart doesn't need our attention and I have not seen her butt kissing, it is just not her style. Vellone is a nice person so is O'Neill. I don't think either can do better than Mary Ann, but the good news is I can chose all three. Vote Vellone, Nihart, and O'Neill and it is all good.

Hutch said...

I guess anon 304 wishes he could vote for Vreeland. Or that Pete was running. The NIMBY's hate Mary Ann which in itself is a good thing.

I don't agree with her all the time but she has been one of the best. hardest working council persons we've had in quite a while.

Len Stone is also a much needed addition.

And when we elect two more level headed pro business, pro growth people (no matter who they are) we will move this city forward at record pace.

Anonymous said...

@144 "personal problems" with whom. the only problem I have heard Nihart have was with people who make up lies and pretend it is true. Could that be you?

Anonymous said...

What about Monfrans? hehe

Anonymous said...

Kathy said:

"Only Susan Vellone clearly stated that she supported the highway widening project."

Wrong. Here are her exact words from the forum as quoted in today's Tribune:

"I worry about creating a superhighway where tourists won't stop to visit businesses. Alternatives need to be explored".

Anonymous said...

anon343, 357 Stop now. You've officially entered the pathetic realm. Since an incumbent usually does win re-election, for Pacifica's sake we can only hope that you're just a very avid fan, swept up in the campaign, and operating independently of the candidate.

Anonymous said...

I don't think the chamber wants to choose. Particularly not for the 4year hehehe. Maybe they can throw Holy Water on all except Campbell and take cover! Nihart's and Ervin's campaign lit did show up together on porches on my street over the weekend. I do think they're a couple but Vellone's getting 1 of my votes. And Mike O'Neill.

Anonymous said...

Hey, let's see financial records of all the candidates! And medical and RX records while we're at it. Shrinks? Anybody seen a shrink? Messy divorces? Former employers, lawsuits and settlements? Put it all out there. End the negativity. And probably end the political careers of all of them.

Anonymous said...

ricky's down.

Anonymous said...

Thx Kathy for telling the whole story!

Kathy Meeh said...

No Anonymous 4:41 PM, Kathy is right, view the recorded video clip. All the candidates included a lot of fuzzy fluff, but only Susan Vellone ended her comment with" "Yes I would be for highway widening." So, what she said was notable, as were a few other crisp candidate comments. After all, some of us appreciate clarity, rather than blather.

From today's Tribune "key issues" article: "Vellone said the city needs to relieve traffic problems and address safety issues on the highway. She said she is worried the tunnel will make it worse." She also said "I worry about creating a superhighway where tourists won't stop to visit businesses. Alternatives need to be explored," she said." And whatever else she said, Vellone ended with support for highway widening as one alternative (exactly as stated above).

Besides, with the 1.3 mile highway widening we're not talking about a "super highway". We're talking about 2 lanes to allow easier access and exit from the highway where there is a structural traffic bottleneck.

Anonymous said...

To me passing out fliers for Mary Ann and Karen, was lazy and poorly thought out. Mary Ann should be bringing Karen, out and knocking on doors.

Pound the pavement. Most people can't name over 2 people on Pacifica City Council.

Anonymous said...

Why do they run? Just an opinion but politicians start out wanting to change things but after a couple years in the public eye they just need to be in the public eye. Everything else serves and is modulated by that need. Nothing wrong with that if they're productive and things get done. The better ones know what the deal is.

Anonymous said...

anon624 What? Was that a chamber action for Nikart and Ervin? Not sure how the flyers got there. Agree with you 100% on the need for candidates to walk precincts. Stone set the benchmark for that.

Anonymous said...

These people are all running to be pallbearers.

Anonymous said...

What? Chamber or not the Nihart and Ervin stuff arrived together. I thought I read here that Nihart has no preference among the candidates. Clearly, that's not the case. Not that anyone ever bought that bulloney except the earlier poster. I'll take one or the other but not both.

Anonymous said...

Ricky's been traded. He didn't like the chow.

Anonymous said...

As long as Campbell doesn't win any of the others are 1000 times better than what we've had for 10+ years.

All the NIMBY's want Campbell so they are here trashing Mary Ann and the rest.

We need to come together as pro growth/business people and not bicker over which pro growth candidate is better otherwise the NIMBY's will elect Campbell and there will be two anti growth council people. Still a minority though.

Anonymous said...

Well, anon711 that's really heartwarming, but with two separate races we can keep Campbell out simply by voting for O'Neill and still be able to exercise our God-given rights as Pacificans to "bicker" freely about the other race.

Anonymous said...

@711 It's a minority as long as all 5 show up. And as we all have learned there are no guarantees of that. Even with 4 playing a tie vote can stop progress. With 3 it's "deja vu all over again."
A vote for anyone other than Mike O'Neill in the 2 year race guarantees Campbell wins. Vote O'Neill!

Anonymous said...

When do we get to see those candidate financial records?

Anonymous said...

I like O'Neill but are we absolutely sure we want to pass on a chance to see Tod Schlesinger heckle Campbell? I mean, Campbell threw a PB&J sandwich at a very inoffensive school board. With provocation what is he capable of? Still wanna pass?

Steve Sinai said...

I wonder if the person attacking Sue Vellone is the same person who kept claiming that Len Stone was in the Tea Party?

Anonymous said...

What is Vellone beyond reproach? She's running for public office I think people have a right to say she was being smug about the meeting attendance remark. I really don't see anything here as an attack on her. Even the ATM crack (if true) is fair game for someone who wants to save us from financial ruin. I'm sure if she's as good as you say she will rise above all this.

Anonymous said...

Not sure I would make much out of campaign literature being dropped together. Last election I got Stone and Leon on my door step and we know they weren't a "slate." As for walking, I saw both Ervin and Nihart out knocking on doors.Maybe they just missed you. There are something like 14,000 residents in town. Dumb comments that mean little and are read by few.

Anonymous said...

Len's father is active with the tea party. Len the mayor pro trim is not.

Anonymous said...

Schlesinger v. Campbell. Sounds too good to pass up. Who knew Len Stone was a tea bagger? A mortgage secured by a deed of trust is usually a recorded document with the county. Thus it is a public record, so why wouldn't it be up for debate?

Anonymous said...

@SteveSinai, Don't know if it's the same person, but it sure is done in the same snarky style. Voters loathe that kind of stuff and often express their loathing at the ballot box. Sure didn't hurt
Stone.

Anonymous said...

@853 yeah yeah You've said that before. Criticizing a candidate for something they've said is absolutely fair as long as they actually made the statement and it isn't taken out of context or creatively edited. But making anonymous allegations of financial foolishness is a vile attack. Reflects badly on the opposition even if the attacker has gone rogue.

Anonymous said...

Here's what I found attached to my doorknob, stapled and rubber banded, on Sunday evening. Flyer for Nihart, flyer for Ervin, flyer for Shelley Masur who is running for the SMC Board of Supes in District 4. We are not District 4.
Horsely is our supe. Today's mail brought me Sue Vellone's postcard. All this junk is wasted on me. I go exclusively by their track record and not the campaign garbage circulated by, for, and against them. I care about results.

That was one vote for Campbell. Ticket sales for the Campbell/Schlesinger smackdown will begin the morning after the election. Tod's corner man will be Terese Dyer.

Anonymous said...

Will Vreeland, or Campbell 1.0 be In Richie Rich's corner?

Anonymous said...

No, the twirlies hit harder. They'll be in Ricky's corner and they're not packing sandwiches.

Supes run county-wide so we get to vote on Shelley Masur vs. Warren Slocum. That's why the flyer was on your doorknob.

@342AM!! So true. Pacifica needs to reach out to Andy Cohen. This town and our public figures are naturals for reality tv. Casting is so personal. I see Len as Joe Gorga but your choice of Pete as Slade and Maryann as Ramona is eye-poppin' genius. I catch most of the NY and NJ shows and see some of Countess LuAnn in Vellone or maybe it's just the height. Andy Cohen, we're here for ya!
