5 years for DUI crash into Winters Bar 1/29/11, people injured

San Mateo County Times/Joshua Melvin, 1/10/12. "A Daly City woman who injured several people when she plowed her pick up truck into the Pacifica bar where she'd spent the night drinking was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday, a prosecutor said.

Carla Jean Andres had already pleaded no contest in July to felony drunken driving that injured workers and patrons at Winters Tavern on Francisco Boulevard. At her sentencing two people hurt in the Jan. 29 crash told of damage and pain caused by the collision, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
While trying to pull out of the parking lot after closing time she accidentally drove through a wall and into bar, pinning one person to the structure. Several people were injured and Andres was also taken to the hospital. Everyone survived their injuries.

A witness said he saw Andres having trouble driving out of the lot and offered to call her a taxi. She parked the truck for a moment while the man went to call the cab. Not long after that people heard an engine revving and saw the truck shoot forward into the building. Andres already had two prior driving under the influence convictions and thus faced a longer prison sentence. "
