$7.5 million Half Moon Bay Main Street bridge replacement

For those of you who enjoy the Half Moon Bay downtown, something else Pacifica is missing.

From Half Moon Bay Review/Mark Noack, 12/14/11.  "Half Moon Bay is about to begin restoring its historic Main Street Bridge after having secured almost 95 percent of the funding from outside sources.

No troll under this bridge.
A hodgepodge of federal, state and county grants have provided the city with more than $7.1 million to replace the cement bridge crossing Pilarcitos Creek. Those grants will be essential because designing, permitting and building a new 120-foot span could run a tab of more than $7.5 million.  Last year the city announced that engineering reports indicated the century-old bridge was structurally deficient and could collapse in the event of a strong earthquake. More than a lifetime of use and exposure to the elements have left the bridge with corrosion, exposed rebar and a long, arcing crack on its side....
Replacing the bridge could take as long as four years... Fixing Main Street Bridge will be no easy endeavor for the city or the 1,500 people who cross it every day. The bridge provides the only direct access to the city's downtown corridor from Highway 92, and nearby shop owners have been watching the issue with some trepidation....To address the concerns of nearby businesses, city engineers have indicated they could replace the bridge piece by piece, allowing one lane of traffic to continue crossing while construction is underway.... Actual construction could take about a year and probably won't start until 2013." Full Article.
