Widgets and doo-dads

I think we're getting a little carried-away with the scrolling banners and countdown clocks. Those died out in the 90's.

Well now as a result to your curmudgeon comment Steve, Rocky took the clock to election and the ticker tape with announcements off the blog.

Do you really think the blog is better without these innovative functions? The clock is a reminder that an election is coming in 2010, get busy. The ticker tape is a timely advisement flash. What do you suggest to replace these useful and interesting tools?

I hope Rocky isn't off in the corner sniffling. Suzanne will start harassing me if he is.

Just put the line about the fundraiser on the upper-left side of the web page, where it was before. That's the first place people look when they start scanning a web page.

Blinking, scrolling and flashing effects died out years go, when it was learned people found them more annoying than informative.

I dread the idea of Fix Pacifica looking like a junior high school student's MySpace page.

I like the ticker line. I need blinking, flashing. I have one of those brains that is very focused on the task at hand and will not pay attention to anything else on the website. If a important event is coming up and I did not know about it a flashing ticker will catch my eye. That is how I noticed the Sharp Park Fundraiser, I saw the ticker line. Just another opinion.

I vote to move the countdown clock below the Recent Comments block. I'm more interested in seeing at first glance whether there are new comments, rather than looking at a clock counting down to a date that's over a year away. With the clock where it currently is, I have to scroll to check for new comments, and I'm lazy.

I like it where it is. It keeps people focused on why we are here in the first place.

The purpose of this blog is to make fun of hippies.
