Global Warming

Is Councilman Jim Vreeland having a meltdown?

Seems that even at a Pacifica Democrats meeting Councilman Vreeland has to confront, challenge, and pontificate. His exchange with Mike Nevin over district wide Supervisor elections degenerated into another classic "I'm right and you're wrong" diatribe on Vreeland's part.

The meeting was instantly chilled at the confrontational manner Mr. Vreeland presented his views. Is it only an isolated incident or have we witnessed this behavior becoming increasing prevalent in the way this council person interacts with people around him?

Please feel free to provide more details for those of us who were not there.

I was there and it seemed that
1) he spent too much time telling us he wasn't running for supervisor (3 times)
2) he played the old "are you challenging me" game with mike
3) he chills a room

he, himself, needs to chill a little. perhaps, his new responsibilties at the EPA are wearing.

there weren't that many in the audience. i hope someone else can bring us their take on this.

Maybe he needs to spend more time with PROZAC.

The Fall of The Republic is a good movie to watch. I just watched it through my Facebook. If you care about America, you will stop the party division and come together to work towards kicking the Mother F#@$%#@# that did this to our Great Republic.

I'm still pondering President Obama's response to people not being all that upset that Chicago did not get the Olympics..in Chicago before a partisan group, he said "What's up with that?" So presidential. If Bush had made a statement like that, most of us would have heard about it. They made fun of Bush being from Texas. Why isn't it fair play to ask that Obama stop with that type of talk? Of course, I know, this is not the correct forum to discuss this...it's not all about Pacifica. Sorry.

The following is the account I learned through another person in attendance at the Mike Nevin speech 10/17/09 through the Pacifica Democrats, and explains to some extent what Jim Wagner observed (above).

Mike Nevin spoke in support of San Mateo county supervisors being elected at-large by the entire county vs. on a district basis. All other counties in California elect their supervisors by district.

Nevin's argument was that at-large supervisors elected by county 1) "serve all the people" and 2) people who live in San Mateo county are smarter than people in all other California counties.

Councilman Vreeland spoke from the audience with a counter-argument that district supervisors 1) better serve and represent their community, 2) the cost to the candidate is substantially lower, 3) San Mateo county is out-of-step with all other counties in California who have learned that having district supervisors is better for the community and the process.

Vreeland spoke from the audience after Nevin's 45 minute speech, and by then his 2 children were fidgeting, causing some distraction to his focus, and speech.

I have grave concerns about where PSD and their proxies on council have taken this city. However, I hope my opinions don't get thrown in the with the strident voices of fringe right-wingers who are just as far from most Pacificans' beliefs as the frog and snake crowd.

Me, too, AnonyMouse.

SSome people just will not stop. Grow Up. We are losing our Country. Pay attention. Listen. Watch. Watch the Movie "Fall of the Republic" you tube it. It has everything to do with what is happening in Pacifica. Nothing will be allowed to get done if we don't wake up to what is really going on. I would not lie to you. Listen. Watch. Sharp Park Golf Course, if you can't stand up and win for Sharp Park Golf Course, than you are nothing and you haven't a chance in the World.

Clearly, Vreeland wants to climb the political food chain. That is no secret to anyone, including the silent underground majority of Colma. And clearly Pacifica, being the laughing stock of the County (see previous posts, e.g., "Guess who's at the bottom of another economic list"), has zero chance of having any of its elected representatives being elected to higher office in the County at-large. If things changed to Vreeland's liking, he most certainly would have a better opportunity to sit on a much higher fence - one of county-wide magnitude.

"Truth Police" my opinion, hopefully Vreeland will transition to anywhere but City Council, or the Coastal Commission-- goodbye, good luck.

AnonyMouse who are these "strident voices of fringe right-wingers" that you refer to? Even the full range of Republicans in Pacifica (1/3rd of the voters) are about as allusive as the SF Garter snake, otherwise categorized as endangered.

Being timid, "going along to get along", even volunteering to support the cooperative "no progress" city status quo hasn't seemed to work-out that well over the past 8 years, and won't fix Pacifica.

We need more people standing-up, not criticism of the few who do--what's that about? You want change, its not going to happen by standing-down, crossing fingers, and relying on the efforts of others.

Petty and mindlessly partisan opposition is both couterproductive and intellectually lazy, and it should be banished to forums for moronic cheerleading like Fox News and Pacifica Riptide. If I know your position on an issue before you open your mouth, you're probably a sheep that's either too lazy or too simple-minded to give an issue enough consideration to voice your opinion in my view.

According to the California Secretary of State, Pacifica is 56.08% Democrat, 22.81% Decline to State, and 16.3% Republican.

Hey "Mouse", and what you offer is incoherent commentary coming come-out of your mouse hole to take a nasty bite at me? I work at keeping researched, known information simple and authentic. Go ahead show us sign your superior intellect.

Kathleen I did watch the 8/09 "Fall of the Republic" U-Tube which you mentioned. The video was produced by www.stormfront.org, with primary contribution from Alex Jones http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Jones_(radio_host. The theory is promoted by right-wing conservative, aggressive constitutionalists, with religious overtones ala: Dr. Bob Whitaker. There is usually a measure of truth in all these viewpoints.

The primary financial institution decline occurred as the result of government failure to regulate, as well as government agency and corporation oversight failure.

More havoc occurred initially when Lehman was allowed to fail. Lehman was one of the large corporations which should have been included with others "too large to fail". The reason it was necessary for the United States Government to step-in and hold together these large corporations was to avoid an immediate financial meltdown causing a world-wide depression. The world financial emergency was also address by other large countries which took protective measures.

This response addresses a small piece of the material presented in the video. Hey, "Mouse" just another "valley girl" cheerleader response. Got anything intelligent to add?
