Frankly, I expect Andy Cohen to hit Pacifica any day now. We'd blow Real Housewives of New Jersey right out of the water.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, does City Council meetings like Pacifica.

Good analysis of last night's city council meeting, Anonymous 9:30 AM. You definitely picked-up the highlights.

The citizen oral communications speaker (Loraine in support of the Resource Center) made several good points. 1. She mentioned the lack of respect of two city councilmembers in turning their heads away from citizens (Tod and Therese). 2. She mentioned not understanding that this city has so little development (not sure when she moved here). 3. She mentioned not understanding how this city council could consider threatening to not fund its Resource Center. Those who spoke on behalf of the Resource Center included a retired teacher and a retired judge as well as others. 74 people were there supporting the Resource Center.

BTW, Tod Schlesinger and Therese Dyer gave excellent, powerful, focused speeches. Therese advised the City is finding technical ways to delay the recall effort, now 1 month of delays. She's ready to contact higher some form of government oversight.

Lynn Adams gave Tod and Therese an unnecessary comment slight when she spoke. When citizens work toward city solutions, got to ask: who is part of the problem, and who is part of the solution? A new observation: In driving highway 1 between Linda Mar and Sharp Park yesterday (2 days after Earth Day clean-up), I noticed along side the highway there were about 10 plastic bags and some other trash not ordinarily seen there.

Promoted as "economic development": an art center galley event in a Eureka Square empty store. Big party, a lot of volunteer help putting that together. Nice, but "no money". Try something more substantial like building the Assisted Living Project (mentioned by Therese), greenlighting the Beach Boulevard development (City), the quarry is the big cash ticket (do what's necessary to get that developed), and what about those "underdeveloped parcels" (mentioned by the Chamber of Commerce).

No matter how many times you hit it with the sane and reasonable stamp, Ms. Meeh, our council meetings belong on Bravo and would beat RHONJ in the ratings. These people could become cultural icons. Pacifica's financial worries would be over! Every element of great theatre was there, but with that slightly off-kilter quality...ok, so it was really off-kilter and cringe-worthy, but that's what makes it perfect for Bravo.
That part about our recall leader ready to seek out a higher power is awesome. We were missing a religious element. So it'll be like a crusade, right?
Seriously, forget that old-world economic development. Who needs shopping malls? We're ready for Andy Cohen. We're going viral, baby!

"That part about our recall leader ready to seek out a higher power is awesome"

Anon 1:21 pm, right. Its disappointing I know, but my 12:14 pm placement of the word "higher" was an edit typo. 3rd paragraph, sentence referring to Therese should read: "She's ready to contact some form of higher government oversight."

Otherwise as you suggest, the reality show may a uniquely Pacifica ticket to prosperity. Odds may be better than winning lotto, or a entering a contest.

What! No religious fervor in the recall? We'll alright Ms. Meeh, I'm over it. I can carry on because Pacifica is sitting on top of the hot, new thing in reality TV. No, you real Pacificans, not Lake Matilda. Talking about our City Council meetings. It's all here for Andy Cohen and Bravo TV. Exploit us please! America can revel in our catfights, cliques, backstabbing, bad wardrobes and worse hair, see us be awed by the events or just simply be odd, suffer anxiety, crass ambition, fragile psyches and downright loons, personality disorders that would scare the cows, moments that are spine-tingling and others that are just spineless, more waffling and pancaking than an IHOP, off the rails and off their meds, and, Andy, that's only the audience I'm talking about. Our Council cranks all that up and hits it way out of the park. Parks are big here.
Bravo TV here we come! We're rich, we're rich!

Our Environment Is Our Economy.
No truer words ever spoken by a Council person.
Our City and human living environment is being systematically dismanteled and bankrupted with eyes wide shut.
Thanks NIMBY's.

So Pete and Sue turned their heads away when Therese and Tod S spoke? How classy. And they both want to spite the Resource Center because we didn't go along with their sales tax? What a pair of scoundrels. And Pete's sister is upset with the assisted living center? And now their stalling the recall process? Can you say "impropriety?" I hope people are paying close attention. Where's that recall petition? I hope Therese gets an investigation going soon.

Nice use of Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut, Mike Bell. This town is all about missing chances and avoiding opportunities whenever possible. Nicole, Tom and Kubrick are all finished and our days are numbered.
Reality TV show? Bring it on. The Kardashians laugh all the way to the bank.

Apparently Therese is having trouble dotting the i's and crossing the t's. If the recall documents clear the city clerk's desk when they shouldn't have, the county will just send them back as not legally acceptable. Probably with some eye-rolling when they note the city of origin. There are laws and strict legal requirements which must be correctly followed in the public interest. To do otherwise would be a true impropriety and the handiwork of real scoundrels. We wouldn't want that, would we? I missed last night's meeting, but from several poster's comments it sounds like a doozy. Orville and I will catch the rerun.

No anon 823, the issue seems to be with Ritma changing her mind about spelling. If she's stalling on purpose she could be charged with fraud.

I like the RECALL signs on hwy 1.

How about nominating hometown boy Rob Schneider for a City Council seat? Then we'd actually have a real comedian on board.

Anonymous said...

Likely story anon1045. Watch your step, folks, it's BS season.

Anonymous said...

anon@1113, why stop with one? BTW, Rob is a brilliant choice because he can get crib notes from his brother who was recalled from council years ago. Let's give Rob some real KrayKray to work with. Arnold's not busy, and Alec Baldwin isn't getting those leading-man roles anymore, Charlie Sheen will keep us on edge, and Wanda Sykes belongs on Council. Then we're really ready for TV.

Isn't the "vote recall in Nov." sign on Hwy1 premature? They haven't collected the signatures yet, have they? Besides, the November election will be the end of Pete's term. That's a waste of time, money, and energy. It's also the height of foolishness.

Anonymous said...

"foolishness." Anonymous 426

Good people doing nothing about city councilmembers who are not accountable to the economic best interest of this city over a long city council tenure is foolish.

Digre still has 2 1/2 years to make decisions which affect this city. Recently she and DeJarnatt were for taxing our citizens, and not for funding the Resource Center. They saved Mori Point, they were against developing the quarry 2x, etc. They both deserve recall.

--------------

It's called marketing.

And it's not a waste of time. The recall has already made a difference in educating the public about inept council members. Perhaps they will keep that in mind when selecting Pete's replacement.

Anonymous said...

Marketing? More like wishful thinking. Opened the public's eyes? Yeah, so they could roll them at this inane nonsense. Just vote for good people in November.

Anonymous said...

Recall so far is DOA. Who's the braintrust?

Anonymous said...

"Who's the braintrust?"

Anonymous 518,520 pm, the delay is with the city, so the city (Ritzma) must be the "braintrust" That and your comments look like "inane nonsense".

Anonymous said...

No, Anne Ritzma is not the recall braintrust and I doubt she's the real cause of the derail. Failure to launch.

Anonymous said...

"Failure to launch."

Kind like your comment. And, weren't you complaining about signs on the highway, allegedly too much launching?
Confused Anonymous 7:01 PM? As Hutch said at 5:10 PM: "The recall has already made a difference in educating the public about inept council members." More to go, but can not educate everyone. That would be you.

Anonymous said...

No, no confusion here. You? I didn't comment about any signs anywhere. Asked a direct question and you responded with a non-answer. You should run for office and put those evasion skills to use.

Anonymous said...

"You should run for office and put those evasion skills to use."

And, you sign-in as Anonymous 749, so you are us. Think about it.

I rest my case, anonymously.

You rest your case, anonymously 949 PM. More like end of the trail, no exit.

Why do you hate democracy Anon 510?

A recall is a right and part of the process. Are you Pete's sister?

Anonymous said...

Hutch, you were the 510 poster.

Hutch said...

oops I meant 426

AnotherAnon said...

Saying that people who don't like the recall "hate democracy" is about the dumbest thing I've read on this blog.

It's possible to love democracy and still think this foolish and misguided recall attempt is "inane nonsense" as another Anon put it.

Anonymous said...

AA 116, you're entitled to your opinion. You probably posted as Anonymous prior.

You may even support continued "sink Pacifica" policies. Meantime through the conviction of your opinion, for 2+ more years Digre may rally for more taxes and fees, while voting not to fund budget items such as the City Resource Center. Doing nothing is not promoting "foolishness", its more the genius of insanity, something this city seems to thrive upon.

Anonymous said...

We're all entitled to our opinions. We're also entitled to have our opinions not turned into something else that we didn't say.

Hutch said...

Anyway, as stated many times this recall has already succeeded in many ways. I know some don't want to admit it but the recall helped Jim Vreeland decide that's it was finally time to hang it up. This recall is also bringing much needed attention to our current financial crisis and what part Sue Digre and Pete Dejarnett played in helping to create it. It also educating voters about what kind of people we should elect to help save the city from bankruptcy. By the time the election comes more Pacificans are going to know not to vote in another "environmental" candidate that ids against building the economy.

Steve Sinai said...

I get the feeling the recall proponents know it's not going anywhere.

Hutch said...

It's already going Steve.
