I have been an active supporter or our school districts, both PSD and Jefferson, since my oldest daughter entered kindergarten some years back. Now her children are in the district. All my children have been blessed with wonderful and dedicated teachers. We need to support them.
I support and will be voting for both school tax measures.
Who is this guy? He is so wrong on multiple levels. His blog is like reading a grocery store rag. Almost entertaining with the creativity of innuendo and misstatements. Name is steg-something? Check this gem out. There is no plan, scenario, or inkling of what is claimed. How many false claims does he make? A donut for the winner.
State Sen Mark Leno's Bill 1413 Aims to Make it Easier for School Districts to Build Worker Housing like the Oddstad School Project
Monday May 23, 2016
EDITOR'S NOTE: Leno's 1413 would allow school districts to use surplus property for worker housing, particularly relevant for Pacifica's upcoming Measure D & E votes in two weeks. The $118 & $60 annual school parcel tax to be extended for ten years, would fund the Oddstad School Housing Project, which will almost certainly be green lit if Measure D passes.
" As interest and momentum builds across the Peninsula to build workforce housing for school teachers and faculty, a San Francisco senator is looking to supplement the effort through new legislation. State Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, authored Senate Bill 1413, which aims to clear the path for school districts interested in using surplus property to build affordable housing projects and help educators live in the communities where they teach. The bill, which Leno said he expects will reach the Senate floor next week, could have particular resonance in San Mateo County as a variety of local school districts have expressed interest in building housing projects as a means of offering staff relief to the constantly escalating cost of living. Leno, who represents some communities on the northern tip of San Mateo County, said he believes the bill could be a tremendous asset locally where so many school districts are struggling to attract and retain quality teachers. “It’s not news that the entire Bay Area has a serious housing crisis, both in availability and access, and it is becoming ever more difficult for people to live anywhere near their place of employment,” he said. “It has special impact on school districts, because it is becoming ever more difficult to find teachers who will put up with the fact of having to spend between 50 and 60 percent of their income on housing.”
640 how about adding links to Dan Stigink's blog. His editor's comment and unrelated article reference are there.
The quoted article is from San Mateo Journal/Austin Walsh, 5/23/16, "Teacher housing.."
As you say teacher housing and our school ballot measures are separate issues, and not related.
Stingnik needs to do some fact checking and perhaps learn a little about parcel taxes. doesn't take much to check your facts but then again, why waste your time with facts when sensationalism is what your after.
I trust fixpacifica, riptide and pacifica city more than I trust the school board or the city.
Lots of good info there but what he leaves out is teachers only work 9-10 months a year.
A $66,000 paycheck for only 9 months of work is pretty good.
847 stegnink's comments on the article he posted is a misrepresentation, which is not uncommon for him.
You trust that, and the Rip cousin blog where he also posts articles and comments by name-- whereas, you don't trust the city or the school district? Oh sure, that makes sense, not.
8:47, obviously you don't know any teachers. If you did you would realize how hard they work. The teachers we have in our two districts work very hard to teach YOUR children! Prepping all weekend and through much of the summer is what I would call work. They cram 14 months of work into what you call only 9-10 months out of the year. In fact, you sound like stekink. Maybe you are. I don't care but pay attention!
@ Rantanon 8:47, Teachers defer salary to cover their summer recess. It allows them to receive paychecks through the summer. Either way, teachers earn their pay more than most. You try controlling a bunch of students hell bent on anything other than reading, writing and math. Hell just try to be in a room with 20+ kids all day.... teachers earn their pay.
Just looked, 90 percent of parcel tax goes to teachers not kids?
That ain't right
20 kids would be much easier to manage than the 5 or 6 malcontents that post 90% of the dribble on here.
I think the malcontents that post on Fix Pacifica are non-other than the three faces of Stinky Dick (sp).
Stegink is okay when he sticks to the facts, but the problem is that Stegink never lets facts stand in the way of his making shit up. Like the previous poster stated, he's really looking for a sensational angle which 99.9% of the time just isn't there. Dan doesn't let this stop him though!
The dude is just flat-out wrong about his conclusions almost every single time. Which is quite an accomplishment when you think about it because once in a while a normal person would hit upon the truth by accident, but nope, not at pacifica.crappy. All bogus, all the time!
Heaven forbid we pay our teachers!!
Personally, I think they are worth every cent they get and then some more.
I'm happy to vote for the parcel tax for both districts.
Not that I agree with him on everything, but what specifically is Dan Stegnik wrong about to be causing such outrage?
Oh, and I voted for the school bonds, too. Already sent the ballot in.
I have since been informed that they were school parcel taxes, not school bonds.
Hey, Fact Checker, this quote here is classic stenink hocus pocus "EDITOR'S NOTE: Leno's 1413 would allow school districts to use surplus property for worker housing, particularly relevant for Pacifica's upcoming Measure D & E votes in two weeks. The $118 & $60 annual school parcel tax to be extended for ten years, would fund the Oddstad School Housing Project, which will almost certainly be green lit if Measure D passes." He then posts the pay scales for San Mateo County schools. Pacifica is 2nd to the bottom. Yet our kids continue to perform well across the board. Of course stegs has to comment on how our teachers have some of the highest benefit packages and since our teachers are old their health care costs more. No references no facts. I hear he thinks our teachers are aliens. Makes as much sense as what he posts
This guy is a work of art. Let no fact go unmolested.
Stinky Dick may be a "work of art" but for sure he's a "piece of work".
