Half Moon Bay also needs a new library, for the coastside

Think library bond, advertise as "its for the children".
Pacifica may ask voters for $33 million, and close one library.
Half Moon Bay Review/Mark Noack, 2/13/14, "City Council discusses tax measure for library."

"At a special meeting Wednesday night, Half Moon Bay leaders unequivocally threw their support behind pursuing a new library as soon as possible, but there are sticky issues yet to be resolved, including how to pay for it all.

....Recently, there has been a resurgent demand for a new library. It’s been spearheaded by an active Friends of Half Moon Bay Library. Built more than 40 years ago, the city library branch is considered by many to be undersized and outdated for serving Half Moon Bay and the rest of the Coastside.

The idea to overhaul the library is nothing new. Supporters have been pushing for a new building since the late 1990s, but the project has always faced hurdles. The closest attempt came in 2004, when city officials and supporters drafted design plans for an elaborate $18.6 million building in hopes of netting a state grant to cover the lion’s share. While the city’s application was considered a top choice, it was ultimately passed over for state funding.

That price could possibly be reduced by $7 million if the city axed plans for an underground parking lot, said Councilwoman Marina Fraser, who has closely followed the library project for years. Per city code, the proposed 33,600 square-foot library would need to have 77 parking spaces, making it a tight squeeze for the corner property. One workaround strongly endorsed by the council was to reach out the Cabrillo Unified School District to see if the neighboring parking lot at Cunha Intermediate School could be shared."   Read article.
