What's the Planning Commission doing?

http://www.cityofpacifica.org/civica/filebank/blobdload.asp?BlobID=3683

Why is the Planning Commission fooling around with tweaking zoning?
Aren't we in the middle of trying to create a master plan for the very area they are looking at?
Why create new obstacles to renewal of an area designated as our "Downtown"?
Should it not all start with a well planned, desirable project at the OWWTP?

Just a thought.

Hmmmmm.....I was reading that earlier. Changing the subject; Fresh and Easy empty store, is it slated only for fresh and easy? Or could the city put something else in there? I was thinking of a store that stocked items that have something to do with survival. Items like; fishing poles, kayaks, bait, hiking boots, water canteens, camping gear, fishing gear, hunting gear, atv's (we could use these to climb the mountains when we are hunting wild boar). Just throwing out more ideas.

It's not up to the city to decide what to put there. People need to break out of this mindset where they think the city is a developer or leasing agent. The most the city can do is promote the city and provide a welcoming atmosphere for new businesses - two things it's failed miserably at.

I'm still mad at the property owner for forcing out the Pacifica Athletic Center and driving the previous owner into bankruptcy. This is one instance where I think the property owner is getting what they deserve.

Calm down, it was not a question directed at city council, but rather to the "city" , a large urban developed settlement. Are we urban or suburban? City or Town? Anyway, maybe I will find the landlord and make my suggestion to him, a urban/suburban outdoor/indoor survival emergency preparedness store. I need some new hiking boots.

Steve,

given the photo ops Jim Vreeland took at the store and the number of times he was mayor and touted how Fresh and Easy was coming to town so our financial future was looking bright . . . seems like he should share in this debacle . . .

I think that is a good spot for a Cabela's.

Cabela's, a gun store, and a health clinic.

I'm pretty sure the City has a say in what stores are allowed to go in. I mean, I don't think an Adult Superstore could go in, right? Who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

If we're selling Pacifica's outdoor beauty, it' only makes sense to have a sporting goods store there. Maybe share the space with Trader Joe's. There would be so much business, you wouldn't be able to find a parking spot. And just think how the traffic would benifit existing businesses in that area!

I genuinely don't know if the city can stop an Adult Superstore from going in there. There was lots of opposition to the gun store in Eureka Square, but the city couldn't (or chose not to) stop it.

I believe the right to guns and porno are guaranteed by the second amendment.

How about a country western bar/grill/dance emporium? Closest one I can think of is the Saddle Rack in Fremont. Now there's a million dollar idea. Draw from the City, Peninsula, and hither and dither.

The F&E space is too small for a Cabellas, Bass Pro Shop or even an REI. A former City employee told Trader Joe's they weren't welcome because Safeway said so... maybe our newly revitalized chamber of commerce can work with the owner of the space to find an appropriate tenant.

Anonymous, you said "A former City employee told Trader Joe's they weren't welcome because Safeway said so." Huh, what does Safeway have to do with the determination of what business does into the Pedro Point location? And, you want the Chamber of Commerce to help the owner find "an appropriate tenant"? Is that an appropriate function of the association of businesses?

Lance said...

I would hope that an appropriate function of the Chamber would be to fill every vacant store front or office bldg with a vibrant and viable business. Hopefully our new chamber board will be pro-active with the owners of vacant bldgs and work together to fill those bldgs. Win-win.

Kathy Meeh said...

Lance, has the Chamber functioned in such a capacity in the past, or is this something new?

But the Chamber is mostly government bureaucrats and other non profit leeches on the government teat.

Besides real estate development, which is obviously a "NO GO" in Pacifica, if there was money to be made here the chains would be here.

Quit dreaming, we're a crappy demographic. No money to be made besides adding "bedrooms" to our "bedroom community"

Tax the filipinos on the pier, after all, our environment is our "economy"

Make the Val's pay to park at Linda Mar Beach.

I can't believe ZRS said that.
