local residents, most of them stuck in traffic over the weekend,
expressed frustration about the long-term detour of Highway 1 at Linda
Mar Boulevard. The detour, necessary so work can be done to replace the
San Pedro Creek bridge, shuffles highway traffic onto San Pedro Road in
Pedro Point. Work on that is expected to last until fall 2015.

For the record I am not on anyone's side but have been annoyed by the darn construction on the bridge , although am convinced it is a good thing.
It was not necessary to replaced the bridge. It was just because Jim Vreeland wanted to fix. Our time is going down the hill. They waste money on things that are not first
priority.
I exactly remember the council when Vreeland wanted to do that and after the tunnel was open to establish some type of museum.
I am very disappoint of council members. We need a better leadership in this town.
I strongly believe that a student from Skyline College taking an economic class can run a better business that these clowns.
I'm afraid I don't see anything that indicates it's NIMBYs in particular that are bitching.
Look over on Riptide Steve. I think they have 2 threads on the traffic/bridge. Now traffic is evidently a problem again and they are using this to justify not widening the highway. Todd was even complaining that this is hurting business. Ha, that's rich.
Steve 703, interesting point. The "some local residents" complaining about traffic in this article (and related Tribune articles prior), and always on Nextdoor Linda Mar/Pedro Point email, include NIMBIES with an Agenda. On NextDoor Linda Mar/Pedro Point, NIMBIES forget the "100 year flood/bridge project" is their eco-reward, championed by their past city council hero, Jim Vreeland.
Our Nextdoor NIMBIES complain about traffic on Highway 1 at Linda Mar and Pedro Point (even when it appears that traffic is moving smoothly). They complain about signs, barriers, arrows, congestion, no opportunities to jay walk at Pedro Point, cars crossing through barriers; the inconvenience, the mess, the not listening, laziness, and incompetence of Caltrans. (They have thrown everything at Caltrans, including Bay Bridge.) They claim Caltrans broke promises by not always providing a guaranteed 30 second only delay. Oh the inconvenience!
My experience is that the current detour at Linda Mar is usually no more than a 30 second delay, if that, above prior traffic conditions. However, last weekend at Linda Mar traffic was backed-up, good beach weather I guess. Sometimes highway 1 gets backed-up on the weekend, or during the week, for other reasons (including peak hour traffic or a periodic accident).
And sometimes NIMBIES remember to link all their complaining to future highway improvement, namely highway 1 widening. That's the Main Agenda, I suspect. Last weekend some of us were inconvenienced by the traffic back-up at Linda Mar, but we don't generally complain to the Tribune, to the City, to Councilmembers, to Caltrans. NIMBIES do (all part of their Agenda and our Linda Mar/Pedro Point Nextdoor comments).
Or, they could be absolutely right. Still, no pain, no gain. Suck it up!
903, well if you like whiners, when one of their favored, "pet" projects is being completed by THE road builder in this State, they're your guys!
Hence, look to what is their real Agenda. Reasonably its the next project, the highway widening to improve traffic flow through Rockaway and Vallemar. (So, this is just the anti-highway widening warm-up).
Being in favor of widening everything in sight and bitching about being stuck in traffic at a Caltrans detour are not mutually exclusive conditions. They also do not blind one to the opportunism of the opposition. I'm no cheerleader.

I wouldn't really say it hurts the nimby's. I would think the badly thought out detour helps the nimbys who don't want the caltrans widening of the highway.
They tie this cluster f*ck to the Bay Bridge problems.
The Highway 1 group doesn't haven a plan. It is just a Peter Loeb and friends plan of delay and hope they go away.

Just what alternative did Caltrans have other than not rebuild the bridge? At least any alleged traffic congestion provides an opportunity for some motorists to slow down a bit and perhaps stop to patronize a few Pacifica businesses. Once the bridge is completed everything will go back to normal. Motorists will zip along Highway One with their blinders on as they head to spend their day and money in the Half Moon Bay area.
Did Pacifica merchants see any financial windfall when the tunnels opened; probably not. Once the Calera Parkway project is completed, it will be even quicker for motorists to bypass Pacifica businesses.
Unfortunate situation, but that's the real picture. Currently, Pacifica just doesn't offer enough reasons for people to automatically stop here unless their stuck in traffic.
Listen, for the duration, no one is allowed to say traffic detours cause delays. To do so means you are against the widening. Even if you're not. Aid and comfort to the enemy and such.
1127 did you just say nothing again? Or, are you crying about being slightly inconvenienced for the benefit of the eco-flood project, including San Pedro bridge replacement? If so, 903 has an appropriate response: "... no pain, no gain. Suck it up!" But was the 903 response, you again?
Wasn't the 7/31, at 304 comment also yours? "...For the record I am not on anyone's side.." Are you confused, a low information resident, or just an aggravating fictitious "neutral"? Since you apparently live here, time to check your pulse. We know you found "Fix Pacifica", so you probably have observation, some city knowledge, and "attitude".
The message not to be ignored (or neutralized) is the city needs to fix its infrastructure, and that includes road development. You're confusing a little mess and inconvenience with the actual issue.
Most locals go out and do the weekly chores and shopping during the weekdays and leave the weekends to the tourists and people passing through town.
That is if you can manage your time wisely.

You know you're on Fix Pacifica when:
1) traffic at Pedro Point is no big whoop and you should just "get over it"
2) traffic at Vallemar is hell on earth and requires building a freeway
Who knows how much longer to finish the work @ Pedro Point bridge?
Just drove north through the detour from hell around 4 pm today. If Saturday is the busiest day I saw nothing. Only about 8 cars either direction stopped at the light.

How can you compare a temporary detour with a traffic bottleneck that has been a serious problem for more than a decade?
6:13 isn't comparing anything, only reflecting back what's being said on Fix Pacifica: there's no traffic congestion caused by the detour at Pedro Point and at the same time the traffic congestion is so bad between Fassler and Vallemar that we need to widen the highway.
About 12:30 pm on Saturday traffic was backed up to Vallemar.

Tom it was a restaurant. Huge space, but never saw many customers. I think it was Thai or Chinese food. Never tried it.

I ate t Rainbow Island once about 5 years ago. It was Singapore Thai cuizine. Very good. Great service. Never went back.

The point is. Another Business in Pacifica closed, and the business climate is horrible.
And yet you people are all focused on when it closed and not why.
Why it closed? It wasn't a very good restaurant. Already 2 people on here said they ate there once and never went back. Question answered.
638 Why dance on the grave? Pacifica business climate barely has a heart beat, but restaurant start-ups fail all the time for lots of reasons.
People eat out when the overall economy is good for them. Plenty of restaurants in Pacifica seem busy. Puerto, Breakers, La Playa, High Tide in the last month. Luigi's was crowded at least a couple nights last week plus deliveries and take out going on, ditto for Kenny's. Good old Round Table always busy. Haven't been to Surf Spot in a couple months but lots of cars there. I don't know what we expect in a town of 40K. Restaurant biz is a tough biz.
