Maybe some of our teachers can stay in the area!
It's from the county, a flyer on a affordable housing building (nice building) in Millbrae that they will sell units by way of a lottery. Deadline is end of June so the earlier the better. The flyer is self explanatory

This is non-sensical appeasement.
Are we serious about our future or not?
If we are, we must ensure that all our teachers get affordable housing either by way of increased salary or decreased cost of housing. We cannot not be serious about the educators of tomorrows citizens.
school districts get into our pocketbook like clockwork every 2-3 years. Time they lived within a budget!
9:45, have you checked what a teacher in various districts makes? Especially here in Pacifica. You couldn't rent a 1 bedroom apartment. If we can keep our teachers from leaving for the valley or foothills I think a lot of people would be willing to encourage affordable housing. It's not charity.
Yes, teaching is nearly the only profession ranking very high in importance and very low in compensation. This needs to change if we want to see a steady stream of good teachers joining the profession. I bet there are a great number of eager students thinking twice about going for a teaching credential offering such low compensation. This is a major problem, especially here.
no one is offering me affordable housing
8:55 and therefore no one should be offered affordable housing?
The fact, 8:55, that you can write whine proves some teacher spent time with you. Communities used to provide places to live for the teachers that came to their town, albeit, a while ago. Ours is an especially cash strapped district, both high school and grammar school, our teachers aren't paid what they're worth but many remain here to teach. Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE TEACHERS! Most are a in a two income household. Young teachers, those that are excited, full of energy and new ideas, can't afford to rent anything in this town on their wages. Are they supposed to go and find a well employed partner just to be able to teach here!? We owe it to our children and their children to help our teachers that need it to live here and engage in our community.
It's the right thing to do.
