Police Officers honored: herosim; emergency management

"Pacifica Officer Matt Sheedy was recently honored by the Peninsula Council of Lions Clubs for his heroism. The award was presented at the Lions Clubs’ annual police and firefighter awards banquet in April.  .... ...  For actions that likely saved the lives of others, while placing his own life in great peril, Officer Sheedy also won the Area-Wide Heroism Award.

Captain Joe Spanheimer, who has been Pacifica’s Emergency Manager since 2011, received the Community Service Award. Captain Spanheimer’s nomination for the award revolved around preparations for the 2016 El Nino storm related emergencies handled by the city.

....  Chief Dan Steidle stated, “I am extremely proud of Captain Spanheimer and Officer Sheedy. They are both deserving of this recognition. Their actions embody the motto of the department, ‘A tradition of community service.’ ”  Read article.
