I know that not too many of you may have watched the opening ceremonies of the Presidents Cup on Golf Channel yesterday but it was done nicely. One common theme that was spoken by Greg Norman, Fred Couples, the players and PGA Tour Commisioner Tim Finchem was what a great job Gavin Newsom and the City of San Francisco did in the restoration of Harding Park.
Now, while I may not agree with Mayor Newsom's politics and I am not a resident of SF, this goes to show what golf can do to a city. Newsom and the Park & Rec dept did an outstanding job there at Harding. The same thing can be done at Sharp's.
This tournament is going to seen around the world and now everyone will want to play Harding Park. When they come to SF, if they are a golfer, Harding will be a must play stop on their trip.
Oh, and by the way, the event is sold out for all 4 days. That's over 30,000 people a day watching 24 golfers. Who said golf is dead? Oh, that would be Brent Plater. Somehow I don't think a frog & snake park would get 30,000 visitors in 20 years let alone a 4 day event.
This event will raise over $3,500,000 for local charities, maybe more. Not too bad for 4 days.
Golf is indeed alive and well here in the Bay Area and especially on the north Peninsula.

Pacificans! Get involved. Let your voice be heard! Are you aware that there are many who want Sharp Park "restored" to a frog and snake habitat? What does that mean to you?

One thing lost on many people here is the fact that part of the Restore Sharp Park plan is cutting down all of the Cypress & Pine trees there now.
Look at their pictures on their website. Not a tree to seen. Look at the picture to the left. Which do you prefer? Trees or no trees?
According to KGO, the President's Cup is expected to contribute $70 million to San Francisco's economy. How much does a frog & snake preserve contribute to the economy. Anything?
A snake and frog preserve would contribute two things to our economy: "jack" and "squat".
thanks for posting this, Butch. There's no reason Pacifica couldn't host an event of this magnitude if some money could be invested into upkeep and maintenance of Sharp Park Golf Course.
