The event that almost wasn't, thankfully - Tornado warning

March 18, 2011, "A brief tornado warning was issued for San Mateo County late Friday morning, according to a National Weather Service forecaster. San Mateo County emergency officials sent out an alert at 11:20 a.m.; it expired at 11:30 a.m. The warning covered the cities of San Mateo, San Carlos, Redwood City, Millbrae, Foster City, Burlingame, Belmont, Hillsborough and Half Moon Bay.

No tornado was sighted, the forecaster said. The weather system that produced the tornado warning headed east from San Mateo County toward the East Bay. A water spout was sighted around 9:30 a.m. off San Francisco's Ocean Beach. Earlier, a funnel cloud reportedly destroyed a shed at a Santa Rosa landscaping business. A one-block area was closed because of the debris, and power went out briefly, the business's owner told Bay City News." Mercury News, full story with video being circulated in several news accounts.
