Nobody's crying. We didn't care much for that North Korean starvation diet Dear Leader imposed on his people every few years. Can't wait to see what his son Kim Jong-Un aka Brilliant Comrade has in mind. Which one of the whacky offspring got the bomb codes?

Sniff, sniff. He was a great man. Almost as great as my Brenty-poo.

This is stupid? Has nothing to do with Pacifica or fixing Pacifica

Gee, and I thought we were talking about John Curtis, and the controlled non-functional eco-(anti-development program) that he and his friends (probably 157 too) cast on this city.

Guess Anon (157) has no sense of humor, Steve.

Come on Steve, your hippie bashing isn't any funnier than my old redneck neighbor who used to say the N word and when I called him on it he woud say I couldn't take a joke. Comparing those who disagree with you to Kim Jong Il is not only offensive, it's a violation of "Godwin's Law by Proxy (from Wiki):

"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1... there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress...Godwin's law by proxy refers to when a party employs a comparison to a universally reviled figure rather than Hitler himself. It is a debate tactic common among those familiar with Godwin's law who seek to evoke a comparison with a commonly held evil without fulfilling the letter of Godwin's law."

Godwin's Law is about Hitler and Nazis, Ian. It wasn't about dictators in general.

Read Ian's quote from the Wikipedia entry again, Steve -- the part about Godwin's law by proxy.

OK, so I'm guilty of "Godwin's Law By Proxy." I won't lose sleep because I'm racked with guilt.

Ian (413), interesting thing, City Council at their 12/12/11 reorganization meeting talked about how they were being "picked-on" by some members of the public. Some of that well-deserved criticism may even have come from some individuals who post articles and comments on this blog. What city council did not talk about was their 10 year failure to promote and affect needed economic development in this city. "We can do nothing" as a slogan does not sail when opportunities exist, but are refused. Nor did city council make an effort to educate their supporting NIMBY constituents. Nor do most NIMBYS who do not agree with the prevailing NIMBY policy have the courage to stand-up and speak-out. The result, as a community we are all faced with more city deterioration, and suggested city council alternatives of taxes and fees which will not be politely received against no city growth solutions. I can understand you standing-up for the rights of NIMBYS, but Steve's Godwin's law proxy, Kim Jon Il for Hitler very funny!

Kathy, you have somehow turned hippies into NIMBYs, a completely unrelated term, for some reason the terms are used interchangeably on this site. Much that the hippies stand for would be supported by many who are critical of this council. For example: opposition to war, relaxing of the drug laws and sexual mores, equal right for gays, women and minorities, an interest in Eastern philosophies, environmental awareness, and of course, kick ass rock and roll. Nothing to do with NIMBYs and pretty much the opposite of Kim Jong Il.

Kathy Meeh said...

Thanks for educating us, Ian (822). You're right I immediately went to NIMBY.

About that "kick ass rock and roll", are you on you tube?

Ian, surely you don't expect intellectual rigor or honesty in the arguments posted here. These are intellectual opportunists painting in broad strokes, nothing more.

Kathy Meeh said...

Ian, for example, Anon (1007) is likely a NIMBY, without "intellectual rigor or honesty", and an "intellectual opportunist", posting under cowardly anonymous cover. Did I get that clarification correct?

Here's a broad stroke Anon (1007): the city will soon pull its last card to tax you (the result of anti-development survival). My prediction is you will vote against the tax.

Like a tea party member, Meeh (10:33) likes to argue about the person and speculate upon their motives, rather than tallking about the actual points they make. She is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Kathy Meeh said...

Repeating your words back to you, cowardly Anonymous (1118). Does that sound like Tea Party to you? Otherwise, that's a stretch, and totally irrelevant, but given your rhetoric no surprise.

Maybe you're unhappy because Santa left you a lump of coal in the perfect sock you placed nicely hanging on your fireplace?

Actually I prefer Vimeo, which is Youtube for grownups:

Ian, I like "They". Thanks, that was fun. You guys are good, with a human message.

Rather than make points based upon logic or reason, Kathy prefers to argue about whether the person is using their real name.

There's no proof that Steve or Ian are actually who they say they are, and anyone could plug their name if they liked.

Anonymous said...

Anon at 1118pm, so true, so very true. Nice of you to abbreviate the Bard's line. The truth is always enough. There's no need to be mean.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for proving the point.

Kathy just verified that she likes to make bizarre speculations about the person and totally ignores the content of what they're saying. I guess the tea party analogy was pretty apt.

Kathy Meeh said...

"...content of what they're saying."

WHAT CONTENT? You have no content. Your comments are like a sentence of all verbs, no nouns.

What is the subject here? If this lost, weak conversation goes way back to NIMBY as different from hippie. There is an overlap, no surprise (comments 12/19, 714pm). So, here's the label solution, since you offer none: Let's just call most of you overlappers "NIMPIES" and be done with it.

Anonymous said...

You argue about the person, rather than what they say. You follow that up by arguing about the person, rather than what they say. You then repeat that process about twenty times daily, usually about things that have nothing to do with Pacifica.

On top of all that, you complain that "Your comments are like sentences of all verbs, no nouns" when about half of what you spout is total gibberish.

Please give the rest of us a break.

You haven't seen anything yet. Can you imagine the frenzy Ms. Meeh will be in by the November elections? Banish the thought...highly unsuitable for these holidays.

There's a difference between saying something ABOUT a person (e.g. "you're annoying because you prattle on in broken English non-stop about national politics when most people come here to discuss Pacifica") and making the things you say about a person some weird basis for your argument (e.g. "you won't type in a name that could easily be faked so your arguments are invalid").

Anonymous said...

"most people come here to discuss Pacifica"

You say you want to talk about Pacifica? Is that a joke, or is this the best you can do?
