Pacifican Barbara Arietta elected vice chair of SMCTA/CAC

Pacifica Tribune

Arietta, who has recently received a three-year re-appointment to the countywide body by the executive board of the SMCTA, has served on the San Mateo County Transportation Authority's CAC since May 2007, at which time she was appointed to fill the 2-1/2 year remaining term of a previously vacated seat.

Arietta, a 42-year resident of Pacifica, has a long history of civic commitment and leadership positions in both local, county and statewide organizations for the past several years.

Her local involvements include president of the Pacifica Democrats, director of the Pacifica Historical Society, director of the Pacifica Library Foundation, chair of the City of Pacifica's Green Building Task Force, chair of the Pacifica Community Coalition To Save Sharp Park Golf Course (PCC), member of the City of Pacifica's Golf Task Force, member of the City of Pacifica's General Plan Outreach Committee, associate member of the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee, contributing columnist and correspondent for the Pacifica Tribune, and moderator of several city wide debates, including the most recent 2008 City Council Election and School Board Election debates.

I would like to congratulate Barbara Arietta on the detailed article that she wrote about herself. No one knows Barbara like Barbara so it was an excellent match of subject and author. The writing is instantly recognizable as no one comes close to Barbara in the writing of run-on sentences.
I'm left wondering why Barbara didn't take credit for writing such a comprehensive article. She should take pride in her vast knowledge of her subject/self.

Coward, who posted as "Anonymous" above, although Barbara is a comprehensive journalist among other talents, don't think she wrote this article, but the Tribune did recognize her for her many accomplishments and leadership roles which are all real.

Barbara is a "can do" person and has influence at both the city and county level. She is person of high skill level, integrity, perseverance and follow-though.

If she and two other change candidates run for city council and win in 2010, this city will improve functionally, economically and socially.

Anonymous should be ashamed for levelling such a serious accusation based on nothing but speculation. The post attempts to reduce an impotrant news article ABOUT Barbara to shameless self promotion BY her. Fortunately this baseless charge can easily be disproven. A simple call to the Pacifica Tribune can put this rumor to rest once and for all.

I noticed that the 3 articles recently posted here by Barbara Arietta are credited to her. So it seems odd that the tribune article was not. Could this be because she was "tooting her own horn" so blatantly that she decided it would be a conflict of interest (her own)to put her name on it?
In any case, I challenge Kathy Meeh to personally ask Barbara if she wrote the article or not.

Yes,Barbara Arietta did write this self-promoting article.
Kathy Meeh should apologize to Anonymous immediately.
I am also "anonymous"because of people like you who attack others whose opinions differ from yours.

From the writing style it looks to me like it's something Barbara wrote, but I doubt there were any nefarious intentions. It's the Tribune's call as to whether Barbara's name gets put on the byline.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was originally just a press release that the Tribune ran unaltered. My understanding is that's a common practice at newspapers. Or it could be that much of Barbara's bio was just copied and pasted from previous articles by someone at the Tribune. Obviously I'm speculating.

Two "anonymous", pods (1 and 3 above), complaining about a "not signed" or "anonymous" true article posting. Doesn't that seem amusing to you?

Actually I'm glad to see that Tribune article posting about Barbara Arietta, because I've been asking her to list her volunteer efforts, participation and leadership-- so people get to know more about her and her background.

All articles are approved (or even suggested) by the Tribune "managing editor". (Note the posting was an article, not a lesser opinion letter-to-the-editor or My Turn column).

I'm looking for responsible, factual article postings (not junk), and you two "anonymous pods 1 and 3" are stuck anonymous "opinion" swampland.

"Anonymous pod 3" as an alternative to your suggestion, would it be better for you and "pod 1" to go back to pod repair for logic reprogramming?

Take a look at a hard copy of the Tribune, there are many contributing articles without staff or correspondent names. That seems to be how contributing articles are handled. You'd think unhappy "anonymous pods 1 and 3" would rejoice in such non-identification. The Tribune and this blog are manifestations of "free speech", as are "oral speeches" at city council--similar provisions and protections also exist outside the yet-to-be-discovered land outside Pacifica.

I don't "approve" anything. I just post what people submit.

A submission would have to be pretty bad for me to refuse to post it, and while that's always possible, I've never done it yet.

I've noticed numerous Tribune articles where Barbara refers to herself in the third person, which is somewhat odd. She gets my vote if she runs for council, but that's not saying a lot.

Scotty, now that you mention it I have friends associated with Clubs and the Arts who are stuck writing their own press, and at times I've assisted.

You're right talking about one's self in 3rd person is really different, hard to do.

I'm using my real name so those anonymous folks will know who to chase. Come on down, let's talk about "free speech" quality control of this blog.
