Beware of the Latest Email Scam!

Times are tough. Many are desperate. This modern day scam comes to us in the form of a provocative email from some sort of Prince located in Pacifica, Cailfornia, U.S.A. Be careful and don't let your greed get the best of you! I know I wish I hadn't....   --r. roads

FROM: Prince Jimanete DeVreenutt

Central Bank of Pacifica
Pacifica, California, U.S.A.

Dear Sir:

I have been requested by the Pacifica Biodiesel Fuel Coalition to contact you for assistance in resolving a matter. The Pacifica Biodiesel Fuel Coalition has recently concluded a large number of contracts for biodiesel refinery exploration, expansion and development in the Rockaway Quarry sub-division of Pacifica, western region. The contracts have immediately produced moneys equaling US$40,000,000. The Pacifica Biodiesel Fuel Coalition is desirous of biofuel exploration in other parts of the world; however, because of certain regulations of the Pacifica City Council and the California Coastal Commission, it is unable to move these funds to another region.

Your assistance is requested as a non-Pacifican resident to assist the Pacifica Biodiesel Fuel Coalition, and also the Central Bank of Pacifica, in moving these funds out of Pacifica. If the funds can be transferred to your name, in your non-Pacifica, U.S.A. account, then you can forward the funds as directed by the Pacifica Biodiesel Fuel Coalition. In exchange for your accomodating services, the Pacifica Biodiesel Fuel Coalition would agree to allow you to retain 10%, or US$4 million of this amount.

However, to be a legitimate transferee of these moneys according to Pacifica ordinance, you must presently be a depositor of at least US$100,000 in a Pacifican bank which is regulated by the City Council of Pacifica.

If it will be possible for you to assist us, we would be most grateful. We suggest that you meet with us in person in Pacifica, and that during your visit I introduce you to the representatives of the Pacifica Biodiesel Fuel Coalition, as well as with certain officials of the Central Bank of Pacifica.

Please call me at your earliest convenience at 800-555-3217. Time is of the essence in this matter; very quickly the Pacifica City Council will realize that the Central Bank is maintaining this amount on deposit, and attempt to levy certain depository taxes on it.

Yours truly,
Prince Jimanete DeVreenutt

From the Wall Street Journal:
"This scam is often referred to as the Pacifica 4-1-9 scam, ironically after section 4-1-9 of the Pacifica City Code which relates to fraudulent schemes. While the Pacifica City Council periodically makes grand statements that it is cracking down on the scam, it isn't -- for the reason that the scam was, according to some reports, the largest industry in Pacifica!!! This is just too large a business for Pacifica to crack down on -- it would be like Nevada trying to close the casinos...

There have been numerous reports of high-level officials of the Pacifica government and the Central Bank of Pacifica personally participating in this scam, even to the extent of giving dupes tours through government buildings and showing them piles of cash in the vault of the Central Bank!"
