Are we going to have an RV czar or person who goes around checking who owns which RV?
The key item on the agenda is the sale of sewer bonds. How much deeper in debt are we going to get?
Remember this the same sewer fund that had so much money sitting around that council is borrowing millions to pay our pensions obligations with.
Tom, I believe that this is like refinancing your existing mortgage at a much lower rate, with no additional funds being taken out. We should be applauding them for finding more ways to reduce costs.
Q9:19 is right. They're refinancing at a lower rate and applying the savings to the principle rather than using it for other spending (for once). It's a smart and prudent move.
Still, they need to watched, and I'm glad you're keeping an eye out, Tom.
No it's just like people who bought there house 20 or 30 years ago who keep refinancing and pulling cash out. They may have paid $100,000 for the house but they now owe $750,000. The house is worth $750,000 after years of being underwater but they just retired and figured out they can not make the payment. Where did all the money go? Just to fund spending more money than you take in. The homeowner sold the house to the lender long ago. Another debt slave.
The city is going to be at the end of the rope pretty soon, and they will be roping the wind.
In the great wise words of Garth Brooks.
Tom
Remember at the beginning of the first Gulf War. When Bush said oh my god how are we going to pay for this huge war. Dick Cheney said, don't worry Americans don't care about debt.
Still no contract for the firemen!
How long has it been now, 3 years?
Way to go empty chair city council.
How much are we paying the labor negotiator?
858 The retro on the new contract will be huge. No way will there not be a pay hike.
Even a COLA Cost of Living Allowance will add up.
The city can spend money on biodiesel, trails, studies and consultants, travel to fly around the country to conferences, assistant city manager but not our first responders.
I guess the union wants more and doesn't care how broke this town is. And the city is required to do the 'bargain in good faith' dance. Pacifica fire and police are well paid for their responsibilities and have great benefits and lifetime pensions. This town has suffered greatly from lack of expert finance staff. Get that manager hired. That should be the priority.
Coming from the guy who calls the Police and Firemen "Princess Crews"
Police got their labor contract, so should Fire. Wonder what's holding up negotiations, anyone know?
Wait till he needs the "Princess Crew".
Oh wait........they won't be able to get there cuz of the traffic congestion.
Never mind.
11:32 they have saved his sorry ass a couple times.
I realize we don't Pacifica to become a homeless encampment for RV boondockers but there is no affordable housing in the bay area. Many families are living in RVs with kids who go to school. How will those kids sleep at night before school if the RV has to move from 10pm-6am. Who is hurt by the RVers? Maybe designate Palmetto near the current RV park as a legal parking spot
How many affordable housing units is the city behind on? Oh wait they have built zero.
Park them all around city hall, now that will send a message to the empty chair city council.
8:50-- it's pretty damn obvious that at least three members of council merely skim the agenda the day of -- they don't seem to have a clue about any of the particulars despite very thorough staff reports being made available to them.
To expect our councilmembers to notice something like you suggest and then to take proactive action? Let's get real. This council is the worst, most do nothing group I've seen in my 20 years here. That's saying a lot.
Can someone who's attending this tonight report back and tell us how many times O'Neill falls asleep?
127, Sue Digre would "report back and tell you" how many times other city councilmembers nodded off, but after not reading the Agenda in advance, she will be asleep.
Those of us who watch these meetings are aware Mike O'Neill reads Agendas in advance, and is awake during the meetings. Some reason you can't track meetings, and speak truth? Oh I forgot, you're a NIMBY, that is the defect.
Item 7. Turns out this discussion was more about a camper vehicle that someone lives in, and that camper keeps moving around the city. (Note attached to the article above).
Kathy
Did you see the original wise man Fred Howard talk about when he was Mayor they would drive around looking for RV's and campers and had to make sure they were hidden. How did Pacifica vote this clown on city council? Oh wait city council is the clown car at the circus.
It was about the one RV but they were taking about people living in cars and campers.
Police chief guy was there talking about what officers do when they come across someone living in an RV.
What if friends of yours were RVing from San Diego to BC and stopped at your house for a couple days and stayed in the RV?
Who doesn't love a ratty RV with strangers parked in front of their house for days? And the stuff they leave behind is delightful. Towns get a reputation for being lax about this stuff. We're up-and-coming with the transient RV crowd.
Some RV' s are nicer than most houses . I'm not talking the burning man RV, hippie wagon.
You hippies love Pacifica looking like burning man.
I think we could have our own version of Burning Man at the Quarry and attract more campers.
214, 732 hopefully not. (Since both of these comments were in the moderation queue, I'm 99% sure you're the same person.)
In the Tribune today, Editor's Corner/Horace Hinshaw, Editor, indicates the quarry has been purchased again. Hopefully that 87 acre parcel will become a central economic improvement for this city, rather than a "nicer RV encampment". Geez.
Hundreds of units of housing? Hold on, the 99% want to speak.
