Recouping redevelopment dollars from some 400 plus cities is part of how Jerry will balance the budget. Pacifica has to do its part. Shouldn't come as a surprise.
The surprise is in the amount, not that it's happening. $400-600K had been talked about, but this is a cool million more which of course we don't have. Hence the use of the word "emergency" by the city -- the mayor's own words, not mine.
The state givith, and the state takith back.
Big surprise, huh? I'll bet it is. Because City Hall has always suffered from a big disconnect between cause and effect. That one and the law of unintended consequences (invariably
detrimental) are how we live in Pacifica. They just keep bumbling along from one mess to the next.
Excuse me, but where did that notice of the emergency city council meeting go? It was on the Pacifica Index site with, I think, a date of 2/7 @ 6pm. You know, the one where we have to return 1.4 million bucks to the state for the end of the RDA. I'm sure I saw it before the cocktail hour. Now there's a notice for a 2/7 6pm joint meeting of the council and the FCSTF to work on a new 5 year plan. Wow, they think we've got 5 years!!?? Looking for meaning here. Was it a billing error or is council looking for some human shields, I mean, partners. Or am I confused? What does it mean? Counting on you Fogel.

Mayor Len Stone sent out this announcement on Thursday which was posted on Pacifica Index:
Last night at "Finance Committee" we learned the State of CA will be taking $1,400,000 of revenue from the City of Pacifica. This is the fallout from the elimination of Redevelopment Agencies.
The City Council will be holding an emergency study session to review the financial fallout. There will be a presentation of the Finance Committee's recommended options.
This meeting is open to the public, please attend!
February 7th, 6pm at City Council Chambers (2212 Beach Blvd).
On Friday, the City released its official notification of the meeting and the posting on Pacifica Index was changed to reflect this.

I think the question has to asked of these jokers: What was the City of Pacifica's contingency plan in the event that the amount demanded by the state was far more than the guess?
Other cities and special agencies have things called contingency plans. They have them, because the state has been playing games with funding for so long that they never know what will eventually happen.
That way, you can like, ya know, PLAN stuff!
Why plan for stuff. Rhodes, bails off the sinking ship in June and Ritzma takes over.

106, I'm running for the "exit door" from you. Why do you keep insisting that Ritzma will be the next city manager. That repeated comment is idiotic.

Rhodes got pushed. Don't rule Ritzma out as his replacement. And with this latest financial news how can we expect much in the way of outside candidates for the job?
And do you trust the clowncil to choose well? Do ya? It's Ritzma or some crusty career-ender with a thick hide and blinders.

Stone got the news out before the city did? That's interesting. Whether he's playing games or acting out of necessity, we need this transparency any way we can get it.
@1204 Contingency plan? Ask council and they'll probably look you right in the eye and tell you to check with the Planning Department. Yup.

I wouldn't expect this $1.4 million dollar take back to be announced on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer but did council really first learn of it at a FCSTF meeting? Really? Wow.
I don't know if our friends on FCSTF are chumps being used as human shields or if they really should be running this town. Coin toss mid-field!
