The cigarette tax hasn't passed yet.

I believe Kathy posted the results for San Mateo county, which overwhelmingly voted in favor of the cigarette tax. Unfortunately the rest of the state, apparently more easily swayed by the tobacco company's misleading ads, voted the measure down.

Now can we get the doofus who has littered Ron Paul signs all over Pacifica to take them down?

Yeah. no kidding. They were all over the street signs at the Colma BART station, too. I believe that's illegal.

I am Ron Paul and I approve this message! Yea, they are everywhere. Anyone care to check out who's behind this? One of you computer gurus?

I also noted all these signs all of a sudden apppearing. Is Ron Paul telling his followers that he's going to mount a thrid-party run for president?

The cigarette tax may have passed in San Mateo. But all of the counties other tax increases look like they failed. Now they're talking of major layoffs and cutting services to the seniors and poor.

Are these public labor unions so greedy they''y go down with the ship rather than agree to cuts in their strangling unsustainable pensions?

There's no reason to lay off huge numbers of county worker or cu any programs. We need pension reform and it looks like it's coming soon thank God.

As Steve said (6/6, 10:30am), State Proposition 29 (cigarette tax) is a close vote and not all of those votes have yet been counted. Also, San Mateo County Measure T, (the car rental tax) is a very close vote.

From the San Mateo Daily Journal, 6/8/12. "Measure T, which finished out election night with less than 100 votes separating passage from failure, widened its lead to 311 votes as of Thursday’s update. The measure, which adds a 2.5 percent tax on rental cars in the unincorporated area, needs a simple majority to pass and support now stands at 50.16 percent. However, there are still about 13,000 outstanding votes to count, said David Tom, deputy assessor-county clerk-recorder. Until then, Tom said the outcome can always change."

Ultimately either of these of these tax measures may or may not pass. The article will be updated as officially reported.

ron paul can't get people to put signs in their yards -- so he takes public spaces
